Abstract

This article examines the close relationship that exists between language and culture which  reflected in that language is a pot of culture and culture is a frame of language usage. It follows from this relationship that language learning is the linguistic and cultural process, or what so-called teaching language across cultures. This cultural teaching of language is based on three theories first of which is “Contrastive Analysis”, “Learning The Language Is A Cultural Learning”, and “Cultural Awareness In Foreign Language Teaching And Learning”. Based on these three theories this article tries to put down a cultural pattern for the teaching of Arabic for Indonesian learners which has cultural goals and content.  It aims at overcoming linguistic and cultural problems suffered by the Indonesians when learning the Arabic, especially their difficulty in understanding Arabic elements that are different from what in their language, and their difficulty  in using Arabic in certain situations properly.DOI: 10.15408/a.v2i2.2141

Abstract

In linguistic studies, there was a tremendous blow, the context in which previously did not get attention in linguistic research as it is beyond language discussion, at this time became a topic of lively discussion. Especially with the presence of London School led by Firth, he stated that the environment has a significant influence on the language. The context of the language is very helpful to understand the text and decoding. Therefore, understanding the context of non-linguistic features is indispensable. The more so in translation, because the basis of a translation is the transfer of meaning from the source language to the target language, using the appropriate context will produce a good translation. The researcher analyzed the poems in the second part of the Tata Bahasa Arab book, 53 in total. The research is a descriptive analysis in which the researcher collected data on the context and its use in translation.DOI : 10.15408/a.v3i1.2143

Abstract

The use of Arabic language, it is divided into two, namely Arabic fuṣhâ and ‘âmiyah. Arabic fuṣhâ  used as a written language, and Arabic ‘âmiyah used as a spoken language. In daily activities, Arab people used Arabic ‘âmiyah more frequently. This is due to a fairly high level of formality that is owned by Arabic fuṣhâ, that should be in the spoken language is communicative, consultative, relaxed and intimate, both in term of morphological and syntactical. In the Egyptian Arabic occur in phonological and morphological differences were deemed difficult for students who only learn Arabic fuṣhâ. The difficulty that arises due to the ignorance of students to the differences that occur between Arabic fuṣhâ  and Egyptian dialect. With an understanding of phonological and morphological of Arabic ‘âmiyah expected that the students of Arabic language or people who have learned fuṣhâ can understand-at least a few understanding-spoken language so that communication will run smoothly.DOI: 10.15408/a.v2i2.2184

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and critique the textbook for students of the fifth year or second-year secondary high school at Malaysian Madrasa. And it adopted a researcher at the research on the descriptive and analytical approach imposed by the nature of the study from the description of the book and the collection of data and information. The results of this study have shown that suitable book details the secondary stage, either in terms of language or cultural content resulting in the content of the book with the book’s goals. The linguistic content of the book suitable for the secondary stage only in literacy and dialogue texts, because the level of texts is high according to high school students, in addition to the length of the text which is about two pages. The cultural content for the local culture are regarded as very adequate, but lacks the Arab culture, because it is very important to get to know the culture of the studied language.DOI: 10.15408/a.v2i2.2185

Abstract

The approaches  and methods are used in the teaching of Arabic literature in the Arab and non-Arab universities. The Orientalists drawer since the late nineteenth century exaggerate the formal side, and freeze history, and still today. Western professors studying Arabic literature in the light of traditional concepts fixed. The purpose of this research is to present and discuss methods of teaching Arabic literature at universities in Europe and the United States of America. The researcher uses in the study the descriptive and analytical and comparative, and reached a number of conclusions from the most important being that the teaching of literature should be based on a correct understanding of the meaning of literature firstly, a thorough knowledge of the characteristics of an Arab literature secondly, and a good choice of  odels that are placed in the hands of students thirdly. Moreover, it poses a researcher a new approach to the teaching of Arabic literature to non-Arab Arabic literature to non-Arab aims to literary taste the development of the students' non-Arab, and focused on the basic four areas namely linguistics, history, literary criticism, and comparative  literature.DOI: 10.15408/a.v2i2.2225

Abstract

The integration of various fields of sciences and technology is vital in this digital era, including for educational purposes such as the utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in learning Arabic. However, an obstacle faced by educational institutions is they do not have a clear model in the use of ICT to apply in teaching learning process; therefore, it is an urgent need to conduct a study to find out the best model of ICT-based Arabic learning. This study used qualitative research method covering three stages, i.e. the preliminary, development and implementation phases. The research used purposive sampling and data collection techniques were observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis technique was the analytical techniques developed by Miles and Hubermas. The result showed that the design of ICT-based Arabic learning model that developed at MTsN Kota Padang is "al-Hasshub al-ittishali model". It is a computerized-based Arabic communicative teaching model. By implementing this model, the material and other learning media are designed using a computer program. Moreover, the teacher served as a learning motivator and mediator on materials that need more explanation.DOI : 10.15408/a.v3i1.2879

Abstract

The study was aimed to figure out the role of Arabic native lecturers in improving student's communicative competences. It was quantitative research with descriptive analysis approach. The objects were students and Arabic native lecturers at Islamic and Arabic Sciences Institute Jakarta. The result of the research shows that improving student's communicative competences could be obtained by various factors such as lesson plans, language environment, etc. An Arabic native lecturer would not play a significant role in improving student's communicative competences unless other important factors well prepared. There were some problems found when the students was taught by native lecturers like the speed of speech of native lecturers, understanding an explanation of vocabulary, Arabic local dialects, and Arabic 'amiyah which was used occasionally by native lecturers. Therefore, Arabic native lecturers were suggested to be capable in contrasting both Arabic and Indonesian languages, understanding Indonesian cultures, using Arabic fushah, and avoiding using Arabic local dialects.DOI : 10.15408/a.v3i1.2888

Abstract

Repeated reading method is a technique used to improve students 'reading fluency at a beginning level popularized by Samuel in 1979. This study aimed to determine the student's ability to write dictation', and to know the use of repeated reading technique in aloud reading technique, as well as to reveal the effect of the use of repeated reading method on students' skills in writing dictation. The method of this study is an experimental method with the research design of pre-test post-test control group design. The sample of the research was 44 students, comprising 22 students for each the experimental and control classes. The data analysis of two groups used t-test. The results showed that there is an influence of the use of repeated reading method on students' skills in writing dictation. This is based on the result of ttest (2.64) and the result of ttable (2.02) at the 5% significance level. Thus, we concluded that the result of ttest is > ttabel.DOI : 10.15408/a.v3i1.2908

Abstract

This study attempted to investigate and unveil the linguistic planning among the Arabs in old times by reading available modern literature and references, and comparing them to what was written by Arab scholars in classical literary. The aim of the research was to see the beginning of linguistic planning among the Arabs, the implied topics in their books and scientific values. The result of the research showed the linguistic planning known by the Arabs before the advent of Islam, Quraish known political organization mentioned in the Koran, the codification of the Koran during the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) era, the order of Abu Bakr to Omar bin al-Khattab on arabization of education to other Arabic speakers, Omar bin Abdul ‘Aziz’s effort in codifying the Sunnah, and the innovation of Khalil ibn Ahmad Faraaheedi in prosody, and  Qomoha and Benoit’s ways in correcting linguistic errors.DOI : 10.15408/a.v3i1.2910

Abstract

The researcher attempts to identify the thoughts of Tamman Hassan concerning Tadhafur Al-Qarain and Amil theories in Arabic language grammar. This research is qualitative descriptive research. The data of this reseach based on Tamman Hassan’s legacy concerning the subject of tadhafur al-qarain. This study is based upon two main subjects, namely analysis of the content of the book and compares with the thoughts of other scholars. The study concluded that the new concept devised by Tammam Hassan called tadhafur al-qarain theory. This theory rejects the concept of ‘amil from classic grammar experts in grammatical analysis and understanding of Arabic texts. Tammam Hassan then replaces the concept of ‘amil, by analysis of the link between ma’na and mabna.DOI : 10.15408/a.v3i1.2911
