Abstract

"Common causes of overheating directly traceable to cooling systems, are clogging or improper circulation of cooling air. Another cause of overheating is operations or excessive engine idling under extreme conditions of heat or altitute" (Lorry Johnson, Fix your Vb/fcauogen, the Good heart-MBcox Co, Ins 1983 pp. 239). Generally the term overheating is associated with car or motorised engines which have an excess of heat. In this case overheating is not about warming-up cars, since warming-up is done to keep a car working properly. Therefore overheating can be inferred as a problem to car engines as a result of malfunction in the circulation of cooling air, tuhich is signalled by excess engine head, ouer the warning line limit. This paper attempt to discuss "overheating" as a phenomenon in economics term.

Abstract

This research is intended to empirically test the relationship between systematic risk of a stock, measured on the bullish market and bearish market with the return of stock in Indonesian Capital Market. Data used are monthly stock prices and market index acquired from JSX Monthly Statistic and Capital Market Book Directory Index, from January 1994 to December 1996. Samples in this research consist of 95 stocks chosen by applying purposive sampling method. Testing of the stocks’ beta is conducted toward portfolios of stocks’ beta on bullish and bearish market. Before testing, individual stocks’ betas are first corrected by utilizing Fowler and Rorke one lead and one lag correction method. The result shows an indication that portfolios of stocks’ beta on the two different markets can elaborate the portfolios’ returns significantly. This indication is derived from F values significant at confidence levels of 5% and 10%.

Abstract

This study attempts to empirically compare and analyze the role (proportion) of Actual Local Government Genuine Receipts (Pendapatan Asli Daerah or PAD) on Actual Total Local Government Receipts of Local Government Budget (Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Daerah or APBD). It also analyzes the role of the actual local taxes and local retributions—as the primary sources of PAD—on the PAD. Using the provincial governments, this study performs the comparison due to ―the fiscal stress‖ (i.e., the economic crisis and the launching of new local taxes and retributions in 1997).The 1996/1997 -1998/1999 local government budgets are used as data before and after the fiscal stress occurred. The results show that the fiscal stress generally does not influence the role. When local taxes and retributions are analyzed based on the fiscal stress, the results show that only local retributions are affected

Abstract

Setiap organisasi perlu membangun strategi perubahan secara proactive dan interactive (real-time strategic) untuk menjadi the leader of crisis. Studi ini memberikan gambaran bagaimana bangsa Indonesia hijrah dari belenggu KKN (inactive and reactive strategic) menuju Indonesia Baru (a good corporate and government governance; proactive and interactive or real-time strategic) melalui corporate real estate asset management (CREAM).

Abstract

This research is aimed to identify regional disparity of per capita GRDP at 1993 constant price of 30 provinces in Indonesia over the period 1993-2003. It attempts to address one fundamental question: to what extent is the economic performance of these provinces converging or diverging? It used secondary and establishment data BPS (Indonesia’s Bureau Statistic). The methods of analysis are Williamson Index, OLS (Ordinary Least Square) regression using panel data, and convergence analysis. The research showed that the regional disparity using Williamson Index tend to decrease towards the equalization. OLS regression analysis showed that key factors that affect significantly increasing speed of convergence the growth of per capita GRDP are initial income, human capital characteristic, dummy resources, and dummy crisis. Convergence analysis indicated that Indonesia should growth at least 4.5 percent per year for its convergence growth. This result is consistent with Williamson index which shows that the dispersion of per capita GRDP reduced over time. This research has a same conclusion with Lall & Yilmaz (2000), about catching-up hypothesis, in which “poor” provinces, as measured by low per capita GRDP, displayed faster growth rates in per capita GRDP than “rich” provinces with higher per capita GRDP.

Abstract

East Java, the most populated province in Indonesia, is well known as a prosperous and very productive agricultural region. During the New Order Era it had experienced a “balanced development”, meaning a high growth with more or less equitable distribution. But surveys in two kabupaten, Pacitan and Lamongan in August and September 2001, revealed opposite picture. The human development index in 1999 was the lowest in Java and the prospect for regional autonomy is not good, except in selected sub-regions where the people’s economy (ekonomi rakyat) have been well developed. The regional elite attitude toward the poor even after reformasi did not seem to have changed. Overall the regional leadership must be re-oriented to the empowerment of the people especially the women.
