Abstract

Children with mental retardation have a 2.5 times higher risk of child sexual abuse (CSA) than other normal children. Mentally retarded children tend to experience verbal ability barriers in describing CSA cases. This study aims to describe the prevention of CSA by parents, teachers and health professionals, including the risk of CSA in mentally retarded children, need for CSA prevention, form of CSA prevention and effectiveness of CSA prevention in mentally retarded children. Method: PRISMA was used as a guide in compiling the systematic literature review based on the inclusion criteria to determine research articles, search strategies, and research findings. Four databases used in this research included Sage Journal, Ebsco Host, Scopus and Taylor & Francis (Social Sciences & Humanities Subject). Results: mentally retarded children have a higher risk of CSA than other normal children. The need for CSA prevention are felt by parents and teachers because of the lack of knowledge and ability to do prevention. The form of CSA prevention can be done with various efforts from various parties including parents. The CSA prevention program through role-play or training to face threatening situations is effective for mentally retarded children. It is expected that these findings will become a reference for nurses in ensuring the need for CSA prevention knowledge and ability for mentally disabled children.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of Fernald method to increase early writing skill of students with intellectual developmental disorder in grade II of SLB Panca Bakti Mulia Surakarta in academic year 2018/2019. This research used pre-experimental design with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample of this research is five students with intellectual developmental disorder in II grade of SLB Panca Bakti Mulia Surakarta in academic year 2018/2019, using saturation sampling technique. The research instrument uses a written test in the form of a short answer, namely a written test that thickens words, copies words, and completes words. The results of this study were analyzed using a signed ranking test (Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test). Based on the data analysis that has been done, it is known that the value of Zcount = -2,060 with Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.039 which is below the significance level (p <0.05). These results indicate that the Fernald method has an effect on improving the writing skills of beginning class II students with intellectual developmental disorder at SLB Panca Bakti Mulia Surakarta Academic Year 2018/2019.

Abstract

Accessibility of people with disabilities is the main problem of this research. Focusing on justice and legal protection rights as one of the listed rights of people with disabilities in Law Number 8 of 2016, and its implementation in Indonesia General Court system, this research used documentary data and analyzed in normative juridical research methods that focused on legal materials which are related to the topic. The results of this research indicate that disability access to justice is not fully applied in Indonesia General Court system, caused by the financial placements and the number of people with disabilities cases. Moreover, the implementing regulation as the guidelines for adjudicating people with disabilities cases (as the step to fulfill justice rights) has not been formed yet. This brings the judicial process of people with disabilities' cases run as is for non-disability people without considering the recommendation from medics, psychologist, or psychiatrist.

Abstract

The adaptation process for measurement of special needs student's social skills in inclusive primary schools was reported in this study. The Social Skills Improvement System was tested on 108 students aged 6-12 years. Social skills measurement include seven dimensions, that are empathy, cooperation, assertiveness, communication, self-control, participation, and responsibility. The adaptation process includes translation, back-translation, and expert judgment. Legibility tests then were conducted on 10 students with special needs. Reliability test shows that the measurement has an Alpha value of 0.833. Confirmatory Factor Analysis is done to see the loading factor of each item in the measuring instrument for students with special needs in inclusive primary schools. It was found that 24 items (three items with a loading factor below the good value is preserved) in the instrument had a factor loading ranging between 0.04-0.70 (RMSEA = 0.063, IFI = 0.89 and GFI = 0.80). Based on these results, it can be concluded that SSIS measuring instruments that have been adapted into Indonesian is valid and reliable to measure the social skill of special need primary students. The implications of the study findings are discussed for future research. Abstract

Health care is important to everyone and everyone should have equal access to health care. The literature available focuses mainly on high-income countries. It is therefore important to bear in mind that many Deaf people, especially in low and middle-income countries, are suffering from much greater health disparities. Deaf people rely on a visual language that does not have a written form. These individuals may lack proficiency in written English. Health literacy, as defined by the National Institutes of Health refers to how well a person can get the health information and services that they need, and how well they understand them. To assess the Health Literacy of Deaf people in Kapiri Mposhi District. This research was a qualitative study; it used a cross-sectional descriptive study design. Snowball sampling was done. The sample size was 15 participants. 10 Deaf individuals and 5 health care providers altogether. Interviews were conducted and manual transcription was used to analyse the data and translate it into themes. Deaf people in Kapiri Mposhi are not aware of issues pertaining to health and wellbeing. It appears that Deaf people, because of communication barriers faced, do not receive full disclosure of their medical situation and the alternatives are not discussed with them. Even when disclosure does occur, many Deaf people may not fully comprehend the options available to them because of communication difficulties with health care providers. This entails that the Deaf people in Kapiri Mposhi District have their health literacy extremely low.

Abstract

There is an empirical argument that Physiotherapists have a moral and professional obligation to move away from assessment and treatment methods based on anecdotal testimonies or opinion and upgrade their method of practice to Evidence-Based Practice in order to remain alive in the era of scientific research. It is essential to evaluate the quality of service being delivered by referral hospitals. This study aimed to establish linkages of knowledge and awareness of evidence-based practice in selected hospitals of Lusaka and the service quality at the physiotherapy outpatient departments. This study employed a descriptive cross-sectional study. The study was based on primary data collected through a standardized SERVQUAL tool measuring the mean expectations and perception of performance for the quality of physiotherapy care. A total of 75 respondents including both physiotherapists and patients contributed to the study. Limited utilization of EBP practice was seen with only 3(5.1%) participants always and 26(4.1%) mostly reading research to guide the clinical decision. 18(31%) and 14(24.1%) respectively strongly agreed or agreed that the insufficiency of basic EBP skills was the primary barrier to the application of EBP in clinical practice. A negative mean gap score was observed across all five dimensions of the SERVQUAL tool for patients. Despite Physiotherapists in Lusaka being knowledgeable of evidence-based practice, negative gaps in quality of care being offered still persist, an indication that there is a needs to improve on patients' satisfaction with the services being provided.
