Abstract

This research discusses the implementation of the right of the Deaf to accessibility and communication by the Government of Indonesia based on Law No. 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities. Normative-empirical legal research used in this research. Due to time constraints, sampling was limited to Yogyakarta Special Region based on purposive sampling. This research does not focus on efforts to generalize, but rather emphasizes the meaning of a phenomenon under study. The results of this research is that the rights of Deaf people to accessibility and communication have not been fully implemented according to the mandate of Law No. 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities. However, this does not mean that the rights of the Deaf are not fulfilled at all, but in the stage of development. This is because there are two conditions that researcher find among Deaf people, namely Deaf people whose rights have been fulfilled, and Deaf people whose rights have not been fulfilled.

Abstract

Most of existing public facilities in Indonesia, beach spaces become one of  less accommodating places for people with disabilities. Researchers believe that the beach is a natural wealth of country that is entitled to be enjoyed by every layer of Indonesian society. Therefore, the beach space design becomes a place that needs to be developed in functional aspects in meeting the needs of people with disabilities. Researchers show that designers and architects are actors who have a role in creating human living space. In carrying out the role, must be aware that background and needs of human beings are very diverse. Researcher is also a hearing disabilities and “One Space” jury team begins an assessment for importance of universal design on beach space. The paper presented discussed the design of a beach space themed "One Space" with universal design principle approach as substitute for evaluation of 6 finalists of the best work design.

Abstract

Constraints in communication are generally experienced by parents with deaf children, especially in elementary school age. The inability of children to hear and the lack of vocabulary mastered by children causes difficulties in understanding and conveying messages between parents and children. This causes the need for parents to convey and receive messages from children not achieved perfectly and cause stress. This study aims to determine the relationship between barriers to communication with stress in parents who have deaf children at primary school level at SLBN (state special needs school) Pembina Pekanbaru. The method in this study uses a quantitative approach with correlational research design. This research is a population research, with the subject of the research are all parents who have deaf children at the elementary school level in the SLBN Pembina Pekanbaru, total 42 people. The data of this study were obtained using a scale of communication barriers revealed by researchers from the theory described by Fajar (2009) regarding the barriers to communication and stress scale revealed by researchers from the theory of Sarafino (1997) regarding stress and symptoms. The results of data analysis using the Product Moment correlation technique from Pearson through the help of the SPSS 24.0 for windows program showed a value of r = 0.819 with a significant value p = 0.00, meaning there is a positive relationship between communication barriers to stress in parents who have deaf children at primary school level in the SLBN Pembina Pekanbaru.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of training program to the improvement of teaching competency in Adaptive Physical Education (APE) of special educators. The provided training is competency-based and conventional training program. The teaching competency consist of professional and pedagogical of APE. This research using experiment method with factorial model 2X2. The sample are teachers of intellectual disability student. The sampling data collection using stratified cluster random sampling. The samples are 60 teachers divided to four groups that joined 60 hours of training program. The statistical analysis applied with T-Test sample paired test, Anova test (Two Way Anova with Main Effect and Interaction Effect), and PostHoc Test. The results shows that group of teachers in competency-based training program gain a high competency test score, average score higher than other groups. There is no interaction between training program and competency test result to the enhancement of teaching competency in APE.

Abstract

This study conducted to investigate the teachers' attitudes towards inclusive education, and what variables are influenced to their attitudes. A review of 27 literatures that involves 5471 teachers resulted that most of the teacher hold positive attitudes towards inclusive education. Some studies also report negative and neutral attitudes. The term of attitudes was defined differently among the studies. The variables that found influence to the attitudes include are found on teacher's educational degree and background, teacher training, and the type of the disability. The implication of the attitudes towards inclusion were discussed.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between behavioral control, cognitive control, and decisional control in self-control in children with hearing impairments. The sample of this research is the students of Junior High School and Senior High School in Special School X Surakarta section of Hearing Impairment, totaling 30 students. Data collection techniques in this study using questionnaire instrument in the form of Likert scale. This research uses quantitative research method with descriptive statistical analysis. The results showed that children's self-control with hearing impairments was highest in the aspect of decisional control, then behavioral control, and the lowest was cognitive control.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the ability of Special Assistance Teachers in adapting the curriculum for Children with Special Needs in inclusive schools. The research was carried out in Public Elementary School 1 of Pajang Surakarta. The research subjects were special companion teachers in inclusive schools. Data collection on the teacher's ability to adapt the curriculum using the interview method with special accompanying teachers and documentation methods regarding learning devices for children with special needs at school. The analysis technique uses qualitative analysis of triangulation models from Miles and Huberman. This analysis model consists of three stages, namely the stage of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the study showed that most of the special assisting teachers had not been able to adapt the curriculum, because some of the special assistant teachers were not graduates of Special Education. Special mentoring teachers need interventions to improve their competence in curriculum adaptation.

Abstract

The concept of assessment for students with special need exists is to find and gather information on the children's obstacles and potentials. In the implementation of special education assessment, it is a need to understand the various aspects of assessing the ability of the child. The aim of this research is to analyze the use of assessment for students with special need in Surakarta city. This research uses a qualitative approach to the subject of as many as 50 teachers from 11 inclusion schools and special schools. The result of this research shows that 82% inclusive and special schools in Surakarta city do not have a proper standardization in the use of academic assessment instruments by teachers at the beginning of the learning process yet. Moreover, 55% of schools do not do an initial assessment and do only the assessment at mid and end time of the learning process. The impact of the problems, when teachers do the assessment, bring through the results of the assessment to not cover the skills that will be assessed by the teacher.

Abstract

To ensure that there is inclusiveness in the provision of services for PWDs the Zambian government ratified to the UNCRPD by enacting the Zambia PWDs ACT No. 6 of 2012 to precisely look at promoting and protecting the rights of PWDs. Despite this, there has been a lack of implementation of the ACT and specifically about accessibility and mobility of PWDs to public buildings. The aim of this study was to explain barriers to implementation of part five division five of The Zambia PWDs on Accessibility and Mobility to public buildings in Lusaka for PWDs. A qualitative case study approach was utilized with sample of 8 participants who by a method of purposeful and convenient sampling were drawn and using thematic method of analysis. This study found that there is a knowledge gap and reduced general knowledge about the ACT among policy implementers. There is need for awareness among people that own building in Lusaka of the Disability ACT. For the policy makers there is a need for prioritization through national planning, budgeting and various national programs.

Abstract

Children with Special Needs are children who have long-term problems on the physical or mental causes a child unable to carry out daily activities and interact with other people in the community (Cavallo, 2009). The limitations experienced by Them cause problems in self-care which result in health problems. So They can live quality, especially in terms of self-care needed support from his family. The goal is to find out family support for the independence of children with special needs in carrying out self-care. The method used is literature by taking some of the results of previous research from several scientific articles in the journal. The results of the literature review show that there is a need for parental support to establish children with special needs in carrying out self-care.
