Abstract

Difa Bike is one of the innovations in the field of transportation of Paratransit and a kind of online motorcycle taxi, but the difference is that both the driver and the customer are people with disabilities. In carrying out its services Difa Bike uses a lot of internet technology. Economic empowerment is the main objective of the establishment of Difa Bike so that people with disabilities are not entangled in the cycle of poverty. The accessibility aspect is also present in the service both for drivers and customers.

Abstract

There are more entrepreneurs from the community of people with disabilities than people without disabilities in Indonesia. However, many are working in informal sector, which lead to lower income gain. As a country that has ratified CRPD, Indonesia is required to promote entrepreneurship and self-employment among people with disabilities while ensuring equal opportunity to participate in employment. What has been done so far? How has the condition changed since CRPD ratification in 2011? What are the challenges faced by entrepreneurs with disability in Indonesia? This paper presents a review of existing literature to understand the current state of research on self-employment and entrepreneurship of people with disabilities in Indonesia. The review suggests that national and regional law created to ensure promotion of entrepreneurship for people with disabilities have not yet been implemented optimally.

Abstract

The notion of dwarfs as inferior members of the society is a long-held belief amongst the Yoruba ethnic group of south-western Nigeria. By virtue of their size, dwarfs are objects of amusements and ridicule and denied political and leadership opportunities. They cannot become kings, hold chieftaincy titles; serve as heads of family, village heads or occupy leadership positions. In spite of persistence of this discrimination, there is a dearth of research on dwarfs' socio-political life. And this raises some pertinent questions: what is the socio-historical conception of dwarfism among the Yoruba people? What are the socio-cultural barriers placed on the dwarfs? What are the effects of these on dwarfs' psycho-political participation as members of the society? And, how do they express their socio-psychological and political affinities, affiliations, preferences, and feelings? Using participant observation, in depth interviews with key informants and archival search, this study seeks to interrogate these problematic.

Abstract

Rights in human rights have a position or prime and first degree in community life Article 28I Paragraph 2 of the 1945 Constitution provides that everyone is free from discriminatory treatment. However, discriminatory treatment still occurs misses in the case of Dwi Aryani Vs Etihad Airways which is derived by the airline on the grounds that he is a person with disabilities who are in wheelchairs and no counselors. How the implementation of legal protection by airlines on equal rights for groups of People with disabilities in aviation transport The author examines this issue using legal research methods for academic purposes. The research data shows that the airport does not yet have complete facilities for groups of People with disabilities, the absence of technical regulations / implementers that further regulate the Law No. 8 of 2016, lack of socialization and education to the public, airport service providers, airlines, and field officers. This is why the protection of groups with disabilities is less effective. Governments should issue technical / implementing regulations related to the Disability Law, and conduct socialization and education to the public, airport facility providers, airlines and field workers.Groups Of People With Disabilities, Discrimination, Human Rights.

Abstract

Research on the expression and prevalence of co-occurring anxiety disorders and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) has produced variable results. In part this is due to heterogeneity in the characteristics of the samples, methodology, and the underlying cause of anxiety disorders and ASD across studies. This review will focus on the aspects related to the manifestation of anxiety disorders in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), in order to establish the amount of comorbidity or heterogeneity both within and between these disorders. This review will also elaborate on the findings from related studies with reference to the underlying causes of both disorders. A number of typical anxiety symptoms play a significant role characterising autism, creating overlap and heterogeneity in the disorders. Therefore, further research on the measurement of anxiety symptoms in children and adolescents with ASD in addition to the interaction of anxiety and social disability in this population is required, so appropriate treatment and intervention can be established to address each specific characteristic of these disorders.

Abstract

Defined as a child who has superior capabilities, especially in the area of intelligence, many gifted children in Indonesia are ignored, especially those who have poverty issues in a rural area like Malay. This is disappointing as some theorists believe that Malay people are the indigenous people of Indonesia. The failure to recognize giftedness is believed due to the teachers' attitude towards gifted students with low SES (social-economic status). This study is a comprehensive and systemic literature review that analyses and synthesizes comprehensive works of literature from various journals obtained from Proquest central and Sage, books published in Indonesian and globally, government documentation, trusted websites, combined with the prescribed textbooks for studying giftedness at Flinders University. This study focuses on the Malay teachers' attitudes towards gifted students with low SES. The main finding of the study confirms that most Malay teachers deny the existence of gifted children, especially with low SES although some of them still try to identify these kinds of students based on teacher observation and the students' achievements.

Abstract

Despite the outgrowing trend on assistive technology assisting blind student to be fully participate in education, the challenges remain in the area of English language learning. The inconsistency of the sound-spelling relationship in English apparently triggers the spelling problems for the Blind student since he tends to encode syllables by as it sounded. This study aims to identify, classify and analyze the spelling errors committed by the blind students in learning English using the classification of NEFR (National Foundation for Educational Research) that comprises the aspects of omissions, substitutions, insertions, transpositions and grapheme substitution. Employing case study design, this research elaborate the spelling error committed by 1 blind EFL learner enrolling an Academic Writing course in English Language Education Program, Faculty of Cultural Studies, Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia. The findings expose that the blind students tend to frequently do spelling error in the aspect of grapheme substitution followed by omissions, substitutions, and insertion. Some contributive factors that presumably affecting the errors are (1) lack exposure to the formation of the words, (2) inherent of language (silent letter, homophone and borrowing words), (3) different characteristics of L1 and L2, and (4) student's preferences on reading (use screen reader more than braille text). Thus, the exposure toward phonetics symbol and the sound-letter relationship in English should be more disseminated so the blind student is capable of having a correct spelling.

Abstract

This paper explores how terms of disability represented by Indonesian translation of the Qur'an. By selecting several words listed through the Mu'jamul Mufahras and other corpora, I explore the verses of the Qur'an, and then compare them with the Indonesia translation which has become the most authoritative source in Indonesia, produced by the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia. I suggest, through the Social Model of Disability, some terms used in the translation should be contextually reviewed with appropriate terms.

Abstract

As a result of physical disability after stroke, most of the patients need physiotherapy. Due to different backgrounds, knowledge, clinical experiences, personal preferences, and continually developing clinical practices, physiotherapists use different methods to treat their stroke patients. This study was designed to determine physiotherapists' perspective on the physiotherapy interventions for stroke patients at the University Teaching Hospital and Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka. This was a cross-sectional study. Data was collected through a standardized questionnaire with modifications to fit the scope of the study. A total of 36 participants consisting of 23 Physiotherapists and 13 physiotherapy Technologists was considered. The data obtained was analyzed by using descriptive analysis and chi-square test was used to test the association. The results showed that PNF/Brumstrom (92%) was the most taught approach among the respondents in their professional education. The preferred treatment approaches in stroke rehabilitation which are used by Physiotherapists and physiotherapy Technologists are repetitive functional task practice (72%), motor learning (69%) and PNF/Brumstrom (67%). There is need to incorporate the newer physiotherapy treatment approaches into the physiotherapy practice as the scope of practice that reflects the latest evidence base improves the provision of services and contributes to better and cost-effective physiotherapy interventions for stroke patients.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of learning through animated video in increasing the knowledge and the behavioral intention of children aged 5-6 years towards children with disabilities. The effectiveness is then analyzed to see whether it can last for a certain period after the learning process.The results of data analysis showed that learning through animated video was quite effective in introducing disability because there was an increase in participants' scores on knowledge and behavioral intention toward people with disabilities. However, the results of data analysis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test show that there were no significant differences (p> 0.05), both in children's knowledge and behavioral intention toward people with disabilities, both before and after video screening. Two weeks after the intervention period, the results of data analysis also showed an insignificant result. A discussion of the results of the study and some recommendations for further research are written in the end.
