Abstract

A new compound of organic semiconductor based on tetrathienoacene (TTA) derivatives, DBT-TTAR2 was synthesized and characterized. The corporation of dibenzo[b,d]thiophene (DBT) group and alkyl substituent in both ends of TTA core have a significant effect on their π-π molecular conjugation length, energy gaps value and solubility properties. DBT-TTAR2 is fabricated as p-type organic semiconductor of organic thin film transistor (OTFT) by solution process at Industrial Technology Research Institute, Taiwan. A good optical, electrochemical, and thermal properties of DBT-TTAR2 showed that its exhibits a better performance as highly soluble p-type organic semiconductor.

Abstract

Synthesis of iron oxide FeOOH from FeCl3, followed by thermal transformation to form red hematite was conducted. The effect of pH and temperature calcinations was studied. The pigment obtained was analyzed by XRD, color reader and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The structure crystal of pigment at all variation of pH and calcinations temperature were hematite (a-Fe2O3) with good crystallization and  relatively pure. The color of pigment obtained at pH variation were red with maximum value of L * a* at pH 6 while the mean grain size with minimum coefficient of variation was at pH 8 with mean grain size was 0.17 mm. The maximum of calcinations temperature was at 800oC for 3 hour. The resulting pigment was shaped like a spheres.

Abstract

Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitant (Aa) is gram-negative bacteria composed of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in its outer membrane. This bacteria is normally found in dental plaque and periodontal pockets causing parotid gland damage when it is present in excess amounts. LPS is an endotoxin and a complex glycolipid composed of polysaccharides (hydrophilic) and lipid A (hydrophobic) which can induces Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), and increase the levels of malonaldialdehyde (MDA) and tissue damage. The aims of this research are to find the expression of iNOS parotid gland cell and to determine levels of MDA using thiobarbituric acid (TBA) spectrophotometric test at 533 nm. The results showed a significantly difference (P<0.05) of MDA levels in control rats (3.135 ± 0.0436 ppm) and Aa rats (6.307 ± 0.0473 ppm). iNOS expression is confirmed by the brown spots formed on the parotid gland, affording the enhancements of iNOS expression in Aa rats and control rats of 2.292 ± 0.038 and 0.166 ± 0.003, respectively (P<0.05). Keywords       : Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Reactive Oxygen Species, malondialdehyde, iNOS

Abstract

Autoantibody TPO is a potential marker for early detection of autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD). Autoantibody TPO has a specifity and a sensitivity ranging from 82% to100% in comparison to other AITD serology markers. Concentration of autoantibody TPO in sera had a positive correlation with activities of chronic AITD. This research have been conducted to investigate the characteristic of polyclonal antibody TPO induced by autoantibody TPO from serum of AITD patients. The autoantibody TPO was isolated from serum of AITD patients and its band proteins was confirmed using western blotting, acquiring molecular weight of 51.81 kDa. The protein was induced to a rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and recognized as an antigen. Serum of rabbit produced polyclonal antibody which was characterized using ELISA and Western blotting. The result showed that autoantibody TPO isolated from serum of AITD patients was immunogenic, which induced the polyclonal antibody anti-TPO (anti-anti-TPO). It was found that the highest polyclonal antibody was obtained on 3rd serum bleeding with the absorbance of 0.3225 and a molecular weight of 51.81 kDa, which is able to specifically recognize autoantibody TPO. Keywords : Autoimmune thyroiditis, Autoantibody TPO, TPO, polyclonal antibody, ELISA, Western blotting

Abstract

Chitosan-based chelating resin, the cross-linked chitosan functionalized with 3,4,5-trihydroxy benzoic acid moiety (CCTS-THBA resin), was newly synthesized and its adsorption behavior toward appropriate elements was investigated. At pH 5-9, the CCTS-THBA resin showed quantitative adsorption (87-91%) for Cr (VI), while only < 15% for Cr (III). The addition of cyclohexanediamine tetraacetic acid (CyDTA) to the samples resulted in a considerably increase of the adsorption of both chromium species. In this condition, Cr (III) is chelated with CyDTA to form anionic complexes at pH 3-5, which was then completely adsorbed on the resin by ion exchange mechanism. Similarly, the adsorption of Cr (VI) reached almost 100% in pH range of 3-6. The adsorption capacity of CCTS-THBA resin for Cr (VI) was 109 mg g-1.

Abstract

In this analysis, a hybrid system containing proton SOFC (P-SOFC) combine with micro gas turbine (MGT) with biofuel external reforming is investigation to decrease the greenhouse gases problem facing in electrical power plant. The hybrid system consist of a proton solid oxide fuel cell stack, a micro gas turbine, a combustor, compressors, heat exchangers and external reformer. The main operating parameter such as, fuel utilization and steam - carbon ratio is determined in this analysis.

Abstract

Diabetic Nephropathy is a kidney disease which occurs due to complication of diabetes mellitus  as a consequence of the damage of the kidney endothelial cells. Hyperglicemia condition in patients with diabetes mellitus that induces an oxidative stress, were related to endothelial cell damage. Oxidative stress as a result of hyperglycemia will activate a number of signal transduction pathways resulting in increase of  free radicals. D-alpha tocopherol as one of antioxidant substance, that can act as an inhibitor of free radical chain reactions, play an important role in the reduction of the oxidative stress effect. Effect of D-alpha-tocopherol in reducing oxidative stress is identified by the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) in kidney and histology of kidney. This study used five groups mice; they were a control group, a diabetic group which was induced with MLD-STZ, and a therapeutic groups with a varieties doses of D-alpha tocopherol (100 mg/kgBW, 200 mg/kgBW and 300 mg/kgBW). The results showed that the D-alpha tocopherol was able to reduce the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and repair the histology of kidney of mice induced by MLD-STZ.

Abstract

Chitosan as adsorbent has been used widely, however it was not effective yet for metal ions adsorption in industrial scale. In acidic condition, chitosan’s active site tends to decrease. This drawback can was solved by coating of chitosan active site on alumina. This paper discloses to overcome that limitation. The charateristic of the active side was analysed by FTIR spectrometry toward vibration N-H group at 1679.15 cm-1, C=O group of oxalate at 1703.30 cm-1, and Al-O group of alumina at 924.07 cm-1. The adsorption capacity of the developed adsorbent was tester to adsorb Cr(VI) ions under various of pH value such as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. The contact time affect toward the adsorption was also reported in 20, 30, 40 50, 60, 70, and 80 minute. In addition, the concentration effects (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 ppm) was also studied. Chromium (VI) was measured using spectronic-20. Adsorption capacity was obtained at 66.90 mg/g under optimum conditions pH 2, and contact time 60 minute, respectively.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by high blood sugar levels as a result of insufficiency of insulin function. Xanton a bioactive compound in the mangosteen rind is convinced to possess antidiabetic effects. There for, in this study effect of juice mangosteen rind (Garcinia mangostana L.) on blood sugar levels, and histological features of pancreatic rats with the induction of streptozotocin was investigated. This research using experimental rats species of Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain male. Rats were divided into 3 groups, the first group was the control without any treatments, group II was sick rat group, and group III was therapy rat group treated with juice mangosteen rind (a dose of 110 mg/kg body weight) by sonde for 2 consecutive weeks. Then,blood sugar levels of all rat groups were measured along with observation of their pancreatic histological. The results showed that the blood sugar level in therapy rat group (104.7 ± 10.9 mg/dL) is not significantly different with that of rat control group (108.5 ± 19.5 mg/dL), revealing effectiveness of therapy. Conservely, blood sugar level remained high in sick rat group (163.8 ± 16.2 mg/dL). Juice mangosteen rind can improve conditions of the pancreatic histology rat with the induction of streptozotocin.
