Abstract

Effectiveness of catalyst zeolite nanoporous as a slow release fertilizer of nitrogen from urea has been researched. In this study, natural zeolite was activated by HF 1%  with a calsination temperature at 120oC and the surface of zeolite was modified by aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) 5%. Zeolite activation was characterized by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD) and Surface Area Analyzer (SAA) while the modified zeolite was characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Surface Area Analyzer (SAA) and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The results of the material characterization of zeolite-APTMS obtained size pore of 7,74 nm with a maximum adsorption capacity of urea was 3.668 mg/g. Slow release urea test  from zeolite-APTMS performed by observing the absorbance of the urea at a wavelength of 195 nm with a variation of time 0, 5,10,20,40,60,80,100 and 120 minutes The test of fertilizers in the soil is directly done by observing changes pH and release of NH4+ in the incubation time of 14 days. The results show that urea without zeolite will be released 100% in the 120 minute and zeolite-APTMS aqueous solution at minute 120 only released about 56,24%. While the application of fertilizers in the soil is directly obtained that urea with zeolite having a pH decrease slowly compared to urea without zeolite. It is addressed that the zeolite-APTMS potentially be developed as a release control material of nitrogen from urea is caused due to the ability of the zeolite to absorb urea-APTMS temporarily in the pore and hydrogen bonding interactions between the urea and N-H from APTMS. Keywords:  zeolite, zeolite-APTMS, urea, slow release fertilizer

Abstract

Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease affects teeth supporting tissues which causing loss of periodontal attachment and damaging alveolar bone. Periodontitis trigger host to produce monocytes, polymorphonuclears (PMN), macrophages and others to release inflammatory mediators such as IL-1, TNF-α, PGE2. In periodontal disease, PGE2 role in breakdown of alveolar bone. The biomarker used PGE2 that contained in human saliva. This research aims to prove that PGE2 in saliva could be a new method to measure severity and early diagnosis of periodontitis. This research used Post Test Only Controlled Group Design with human saliva as the samples. The samples collected from 20 patients divided into two groups which are: control group (patient without periodontitis) and experimental group (patient with periodontitis). Saliva collecting method which used was Passive Drool with 2 ml for each. Afterwards, the samples isolated with a kit to make sure the PGE2 in saliva active and then the ELISA test did. Data analysis used Independent T Test with p<0,05 to know comparison the level of PGE2 in both groups. Thereafter, a ROC curve analysis with p<0,05 used to find out sensitivity and specifity of PGE2 in saliva towards periodontitis. The amount of PGE2 in saliva were significantly increased in periodontitis patients compared with healthy patients, also PGE2 in saliva specific enough and sensitive to periodontitis so its could be used as a valid diagnostic tool in measuring the severity of periodontitis. Keywords:  Prostaglandin E2, saliva, periodontitis, early diagnose, severity

Abstract

A rapid and efficient micropropagation method was esthablished for produced cloning of Orchid Hybrid Spathoglottis Bintang Segunung from Indonesia. The aim of this research was to optimize effects of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), cold shock, and 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP) to plantlet regeneration from ovarium culture and analyse the ploidy using flow cytometry. Ovarium explants from shut flower stalk were cultured on Vacin and Went (VW) medium supplemented with 2,4-D at 5 concentrations (0.01-1 ppm) and cold shock treatment after cultured at 3 variations 10oC (0, 2, and 4 h) and then incubate the explants in room with 24 photoperiodization (±25oC). After 10 days, while ovarium explants were subcultured on VW supplemented with 6-benzylaminopurin (BAP) (2.5 ppm) for 2 weeks. Further, ovarium explants were subcultured again on VW medium with filtered coconut water (150 ml/L). Regeneration of protocorm-like bodies (PLBs) and subsequent plantlet development were observed from on VW+ 1 ppm 2,4-D (Sig= 2%)+ 4h cold shock 10oC (Sig= 2%) dan 2,5 ppm BAP. The optimized procedure required about 2 months from cultured of the ovarium explant to plantlet formation. The peak from the histogram of flow cytometry showed that ovarium cultured of S. Bintang Segunung (CV= 4,35%) and leave of S. Bintang Segunung (CV= 5,19%) were the same triploid. The protocol of this experiment could produce the uniform plantlets and expected to initiate the regeneration of ovul cell which need more studying for the medium optimation.

Abstract

The use of CFC refrigerants (Chloro Fluoro Carbon) leads to destruction of ozone layer and global warming. An alternative refrigerant is hydrocarbon refrigerant, but it has the disadvantage of easily exploded. This experimental study has been conducted to study the effect of addition of TiO2, which are flame retardant, on the performance of hydrocarbon refrigerant R600a (nanorefrigeran TiO2-R600a). Test of Performance conducted according to refrigerants national standards IEC 60335-2-24-2010. The result is R600a-TiO2 is safe and efficient to be used as a refrigerant without any modification on refrigerator. TiO2 increases the thermal conductivity and heat transfer of refrigerant. The best performance is obtained at TiO2 concentration of 1 g / L (COP = 4,821). It is expected that the nanorefrigeran TiO2-R600a can be used as the primary refrigerant in the future that are environmentally friendly and efficient. Keywords:  Nano-Refrigerant, R600A, TiO2, COP

Abstract

In addition educational activities purposes, Jatinangor is used as a buffer zone for several conservation area, such as Protected Forest of Mt. Manglayang. In Perbup Sumedang No. 12 Tahun 2013, Government of Sumedang shows a commitment to maintain environmental quality, particularly  ITB Jatinangor as an eco-oriented campus. Biodiversity inventory is a basic information required for sustainable development programs, as mentioned in UU No.32 Tahun 2009. In this research, biodiversity of birds was selected because of its reliability as parameter in ecological research, ITB Jatinangor was divided into five areas representing general difference of land uses. Method used was point count combined with timed species count. The data was interpreted into Shannon-Wiener index (H’), birds distribution in each area, and trophic guild distribution. 42 species from 28 families were recorded with the medium level of diversity (H’=2.73). Four Javan endemic species and nine government-protected species were also recorded. Mixed forest had the largest H value, followed by conservation area and the dam, student activity area, monoculture forest, and former rice field. Insectivore species were the most abundant trophic guild (54%) indicating the lack of flowering and fruiting trees. It also showed character of urban environment with high human disturbance. Keywords:  birds, diversity, distribution, ITB Jatinangor

Abstract

One of untapped potentials of agro-wastes from the manufacture of lime juice squeezed lime juice (Jeniper) in Kuningan is lime peel. The waste is simply thrown away, whereas lime peel can be used or recycled into other products of economic value. A good way is to extract the compound limonene from citrus fruit peel, then limonene is mixed with paraffin to produce aromatic candle that has a variety of advantages such as an insect repellent, air freshener, and as aroma therapy. Aromatic candles from that recycling have a scent that is not too overpowering so it does not cause excessive VOC but remain optimal in the expulsion of insects. In addition, this candle has the same form as candles in general, so the wax remains affordable price if commercialized. This study aims to determine the amount of limonene extract concentration of lime peel that can produce aromatic candle insect repellent (repellen). This study uses experimental design with 4 complete treatment randomized design that is the addition of extracts of limonene 0%, 0.3%, 0.4%, and 0.5%. Subjects were Periplaneta americanus and 15 panellists. The data were then analyzed with One-Way Analysis of Variances (ANOVA) or analysis of variance. Hedonic test results of 15 aromatic candles panellists are as follows: The panellists liked the resulting aromatic candles. In the repellence test there were significant differences between the wax concentration 0%, 0.3%, 0.4% and 0.5%. Wax containing limonene as much as 0.5% have a higher effectiveness in repel insects (repellent) in this case cockroaches. Keywords:  Lime peel, Limonene, Aromatic candles, Repellent

Abstract

Indonesia is located between 2 continental plates in which causes the disaster often happens. One of the solution to encounter the mapping and searching after disaster is employing UAV robots. Quadrotor is one of these underlying robots that widely used due to its highly maneuverability, cheap, and less run-way. Instead of using single quadrotor which is less efficient and needs more time, we use multi-quadrotor system. These agents will coordinate to each other and form a formation, thereby it can be used to optimize the disaster monitoring process by multi-quadrotor. This work begins as follows: The study of formation and coordination of multi UAV system.  Afterwards, we design the path-planning and formation control algorithm based on potential fields for Quadrotor. Otherwise, we also employ visual navigation method combined with GPS in quadrotor to obtain its global position. In simulation, it can be showed that our approach works well. in the future we will apply it entirely in real quadrotor. Moreover, the results of this research have been published in some international conference, even receive a best paper award as well. Keywords:  Disaster Monitoring, Quadrotor, Visual Navigation, Path Planning, Formation Control
