Abstract

Currently the function of a room is not only used as a shelter, the function of the room itself to be increased as a refreshing or relaxation area for users to follow the development of creativity and technology in the field of design. The comfortable factor becomes the main factor that indicates a successful process of creating a space. No exception library. The nature of library seemed stiff because of its function as a place to read, now can be developed and made into more dynamic with the special design concepts or color patterns used. Libraries can be created a special concept that suits the characteristics of the users themselves. Most users of the library, especially in college libraries are teenagers. Naturally, teenagers like to gather with their friends and we have to facilitate this activity in our library design concept. In addition we can also determine the needs of users through research by questionnaire method. The answers of users can be mapped and drawn conclusions. To explore the research, the author reviewed some literature about library interior design and observed the library of Ma Chung University as a case study. The combined results of the method can be concluded and the discovery of ideal standards of physical environment. So, the library can be made as a comfortable reading environment so as to increased interest in reading behavior and the frequent visits of students in the library

Abstract

The existence of the village library has a lot of value for the benefit of peoples lives, however, the values in question still needs to be expressed more real in peoples lives. The purpose of this study is to assess the values held by the village library and the public library in the village in West Java. Social values, the value of life, culture, history, communication and information, education, religion, preservation, symbol of civilization, archives, documentation, the value of continuity of knowledge between generations, and other values inherent to the function of the village library, are some examples of studies the focus of this study. The method used is the direct observation of village libraries and library communities in West Java. There are 13 village libraries sampled in this study. The results of this research illustrates that the presence of libraries in the villages received a positive response from the community at large. Libraries in the village has a lot of value benefits for many aspects of human life in the village. Some of these include social value, historical value, the value of documentation, and other values prevailing in society.

Abstract

Dewey Decimal Classification is a most popular classification system in the world because of its completeness and most up-to-date. There are many optional number in this classification system, although it rarely to be discussed even it is important to known well about that optional number, especially for a librarian as classifier. This paper is a literature study about Dewey Decimal Classification Edition 23, to describe about optional numbers, particularly the number in relationship with Indonesia’s subject and discipline. This paper is to avoid misunderstanding in interpreted about optional number among librarians, especially for who that does not understand well about optional numbers.

Abstract

The Research about library services for people with disabilities is still found rarely, therefore, in this research case, the researcher try to discuss the title in order to enrich the librarianship scientific. This research uses a quantitative approach with the descriptive type. Some findings of the data presented in this research case is about the collection, type of service, the library manager and the library space of Surabaya’s YPAC. In Surabaya’s YPAC is available only in hard copy collections amounted to approximately 1000-1500 ex, that dominated the collection of fiction (stories/illustrated fables). The condition of most of the collection is very alarming because it was never noticed, classified specifically and many collections are laid out horizontally as high book shelf height exceeds available. YPAC library runs only circulation services manually, and organized by teachers who graduate from educational of school for disabled (SLB). Regarding the library are in good condition and clean, there are 4 and 3 units of rackcollection of tables and chairs, but the air circulation is not good because the ventilation system only comes from a window so that the temperature inside the room pretty hot.

Abstract

SMS looks outdated in todays digital era. Perhaps because of that, library did not chose SMS as media for reference services. Existing researchs results prove different things with this assumption. Libraries in Indonesia itself looks not use SMS as a medium in reference services. There is only the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas) which organized text reference services. This study sought understanding the conditions of text reference service at Perpusnas, including aspects of interpersonal communication. This research use quantitative content analysis research on recorded text in text reference services. The results showed SMS has the potential to reach a wider market in the community for reference services. Text reference service at Perpusnas needs more planning, implementation, and evaluation which found that sufficient length of the response time and the duration of the transaction. In addition, a reference librarian who runs the text reference service needs to pay attention to aspects of interpersonal communication that is a positive influence in the transaction reference.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the digital archive storage management conducted Indonesian Visual Art Archive which includes the acceptance stage archive, metadata archives, archive conversion, digital archive storage, retrieval and archive and archive evaluation stage. The location of this research done in archives art Yogyakarta Indonesian Visual Art Archive. The method used in the study used a qualitative approach with case study. As for the technique of data collection is done through observation, interview and literature study. Based on the results of this research note that the digital archive management activities undertaken archives art Yogyakarta Indonesian Visual Art Archive is a form of awareness of the importance of art as archive footage of historical development and culture. As for the digital archive management activities are some steps being taken begins with the acceptance of the archive, metadata archives, archive conversion, digital archive storage, retrieval and archive and archive evaluation stage. In this digital archive management does not have a cycle of destruction of records for each archive is a work of art performers. In addition, the digital archive storage management activities in archives art Yogyakarta Indonesian Visual Art Archive is supported by a clear procedural system.

Abstract

The development of information technology affects students in searching and finding information, particularly information regarding the General Election. The explosion of information on mass media about the elections resulted impact (both positive and negative) to the potential voters. Nowadays, media plays role as a tool for political parties to lead public opinion to support their parties. Based on the data provided by General Election Commission (KPU) in 2014, 20% of voters were identified as students (teens). This is a qualitative research with case study method which aims to gain insight about interpretation, understanding, perceptions and feelings of teenage voters’ behavior in searching and finding information about general election in Indonesia year 2014. The data were collected by conducting interview and observation. Informants in this study were students, aged 17-18 years, who studying in government senior high school in Depok. The results of this study indicates that informants using social media to keep update about general election. Besides, they also gain information from their parents and close friends. Unfortunatelly, they were not able to identify which information which are correct or not, so they rely on people around them to make sure whether they did right decision. Therefore, this study also suggest that KPU needs to develop promotion strategy that suitable for teens about general election.

Abstract

The study of media literacy has been conducted by the earlier scientists. That research uses population that have different characteristics to each other. So this studies of media literacy have various models or patterns. This models or patterns of media literacies will be used as basic data to the next study that generated will usually be the basis for the further research. Basically, the model of media literacy generated by some researchers only can be applied in the population which become objects of research. To day, the archives faced many challenges due to the presence of information technology, so that the competence of media literacy as one of the important competencies to have. through this competency, archivist are expected to manage archives organization effectively and efficiently. This paper uses a descriptive method to describe how media literacy becomes important for archives.

Abstract

In the formal and informal organization, it is always found someone who is considered more prominent than others, who then appointed or designated as a leader. The Leader of an organization is expected to have leadership qualities, which showed his skills in leading organizations. A leader in the library requires synergy between skills in library management and leadership in general in order to create a good working atmosphere and to encourage the library staff in providing the best services to the patron community. Tenteram City Public library since year of 2018 has never experienced a change of its leader. Research using qualitative approach aimed to identify the leadership of Tenteram City public library leader in developing human resources and library services. Data of this study is gathered through observation and interviews. It is found that the head of the library serves as a role model in imbedding working discipline, he never involved the staff in decision making, the fear of making mistake is the working atmosphere created in the library. The Research found that the head of Tenteram City public library adopts autocratic leadership.

Abstract

Information technology has been used in the management of the library. There are several libraries have been integrated with the internet to provide services. But the library still image as an institution or an old building that contains the bookshelves and librarian profession under other professions. This article is presented to determine some of the challenges and strategies that can be done in fostering a positive image of the library. Based on the literature study and observation, it’s known, that the challenges are differences in educational background librarians, foster a positive image has not been planned, the development of information technology, the implementation of the code of ethics of librarians is not maximal. In the face of the challenges in creating a positive image, there are strategies that can be done that in terms of internal and external libraries. Thus, it can be concluded that, to foster a positive image of the library is needed strategies and synergies as well as the responsibility of all aspects of the library. Recommendation for librarians are important to develop personal branding. Furthermore, for the library after successfully building a positive image should be able to maintain and restore the image when a crisis.
