Abstract

Background of the study: Archiving and document management are essential for ensuring the continuity of university administration. With advances in information technology, conventional archiving systems are increasingly seen as less effective and less efficient. Purpose: This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the Integrated Digital Archiving System in enhancing document management at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). Method: This research employs a quantitative approach. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to archivists and system users at UNNES. The data provide insight into staff perceptions of document management, their expectations for the current system under development, and their feedback after testing the newly developed system. Findings: The results indicate that the MyUNNES-Siradi application and participatory commitment can explain 82.5% of the variance in document management accountability among archival staff. The partial determination coefficients show that the MyUNNES-Siradi application accounts for 51.7%, while participatory commitment accounts for 58.8%. Additionally, 85% of respondents reported high satisfaction with the system’s features, particularly the reduced time required to access and manage documents. Conclusion: Overall, the findings suggest that the digital archive system effectively improves document management at UNNES. Further development is recommended to address remaining challenges and enhance system performance.

Abstract

Background of the study: The University Libraries is an academic library from University A, one of the oldest private universities or Higher Education Institutions in the Philippines, located in the Western Visayas region. It collects and preserves the organizational memory and evidence by keeping university records. Purpose: This research aims to examine the records management program at a specific university library in the Philippines that adheres to ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management Systems. This highlights the importance of preserving records in university libraries to guarantee that the library’s activities are adequately documented for historical, administrative, archival, and legal purposes. Method: This qualitative research uses a literature review and observation to gather an in-depth understanding of a case study of the university library, and uses the records life cycle and PEST analysis as a framework to examine the case. Findings: Although the University Library adheres to ISO 9001:2015, the research shows that examining its background, applying PEST analysis to its environment, and analyzing its functions and organizational culture help researchers identify the current challenges it faces and inform the development of its records management program. Conclusion: It is critical for the University to successfully establish an effective records management system as this will positively impact all departments and offices, particularly the University Library. Therefore, developing a records management manual would greatly benefit the organization as a whole. This manual should include policies and procedures and define the roles and responsibilities of those involved.

Abstract

Background of the study: The decline in the utilization and user satisfaction of virtual reference services in the Library in Jakarta, Indonesia, indicates organizational dysfunction. Communication can be a cause and symptom of this organizational dysfunction. Purpose: This study aims to identify the source of problems in organizing virtual reference services. Method: This research employs a qualitative case study approach. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, and document studies. Data analysis was performed through data coding. Findings: Interaction among service team members and with other service teams occurred frequently. In contrast, the interaction between the service team and supervisor, chief supervisor, and unit leader was infrequent. The problem that appears on the surface is the failure of the management function. Conclusion: Examining organizational issues from a communication perspective can help identify the sources of dysfunction in organizing virtual reference services. A team-based work system does not necessarily result in good performance. This occurs because the behavior of organizational members is shaped not by communication within their environment but by their activities.

Abstract

Background of the study: The Thai public sector requires a legal infrastructure to set the legislative framework governing records and archives management in the Digital Age. Purpose: This research examines Thailand’s current legislation on records and archives management, highlighting its role in addressing issues and gaps in e-records management in the Digital Age. Method: This research follows a qualitative approach, with the purpose of this methodology to gather insights into the legal framework surrounding electronic records management within the Thai public sector. Findings: The results highlight four key issues: 1) the legislation defines different key terms related to information, records, and archives, providing an overlapped framework, 2) It still needs further code of practice for e-records management, 3) the lack of comprehensive guidelines or procedures for records and archives management creates a gap to help standardize and improve records management practices across the public sector, and 4) the effectiveness of legal enforcement is hindered by a lack of public awareness and understanding of records management laws. Conclusion: This research is pioneering in that it addresses electronic records management in the Thai public sector from a records-and-archives management perspective. The findings have the potential to contribute to improving the regulatory framework that governs e-records management in government agencies. This, in turn, will help ensure the preservation of electronic records for future generations in the Digital Age.

Abstract

Background of the study: In today’s libraries, increasing pressures on managing and visualizing digital collections in an efficient, interactive, and user-centered way continue to challenge the profession. Augmented Reality (AR) holds promise to facilitate spatial navigation, access to collections, and learning experiences in libraries. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to conduct a systematic review of the literature related to AR applications in library digital collections, visualization, and management. Method: Using a Systematized Literature Review (SLR) methodology, articles were found through the Publish or Perish software using Google Scholar as the primary search engine. A total of 100 articles were initially screened, and 36 articles that met predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected for in-depth thematic analysis to uncover emerging patterns and research clusters. Findings: Five main themes were identified: 1) Augmented Reality (AR) for Library Navigation and Orientation, 2) AR for Visualization of Digital Assets: AR is increasingly investigated as a medium for the visualization of digital collections, 3) Integration of AR with Complementary Technologies, 4) Application of AR in Specialized Library Contexts, and 5) AR as a Facilitator of Educational Objectives. The most significant challenges identified include limited infrastructure, difficulties with system integration, and training/education issues for librarians. Conclusion: This review confirms the high potential for AR to improve user engagement, facilitate information connectivity, and enhance educational functions within libraries. However, the success of AR relies on broadband infrastructure, open content, and partnerships across community sectors, with implications for both theory and the development of immersive services.

Abstract

Background of the study: User satisfaction is crucial for evaluating website design, especially for cultural and educational institutions such as museums. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to measure how the five dimensions of content, accuracy, format, ease of use, and timeliness affect user satisfaction. Method: A quantitative approach was used, employing the EUCS model and the DeLone and McLean Framework, through a survey of 224 students from the Faculty of Education at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression. Findings: The findings of this study indicate that content, accuracy, and format are the most significant factors influencing user satisfaction, explaining nearly 93% of the variation in satisfaction. However, ease of use and timeliness show weaker effects. Conclusion: This study suggests that museum websites should prioritize content quality and accuracy while maintaining a user-friendly design. Additionally, further research with a larger, more diverse sample and longitudinal studies is recommended to examine changes in satisfaction over time.

Abstract

Background of the study: YouTube offers new opportunities for sharing Library and Information Science (LIS) research beyond traditional academic channels. Despite this potential, attention is limited regarding how LIS research circulates and engages audiences on this platform. Purpose: This study aims to map the thematic focus of YouTube videos that cite LIS research and to analyze their interaction metrics as indicators of audience engagement from an altmetrics perspective. Method: The study employed quantitative (descriptive and inferential statistics on YouTube interaction metrics) and qualitative (thematic analysis with inductive coding) methods on YouTube videos citing LIS research. Findings: Engagement was largely passive, with views dominating (97.41%). Dominant themes were: libraries as objects (36.47%), innovation/IT (32.44%), health information (25.34%), and social media (5.75%). The Vsauce video “The Zipf Mystery” demonstrated the potential to popularize LIS concepts like Zipf’s law. Conclusion: LIS research is increasingly cited on YouTube, confirming the platform’s potential as a complementary avenue for research dissemination and highlighting the growing convergence with digital public engagement. Future studies should focus on strategies to optimize YouTube as a scholarly communication tool.

Abstract

Background of the study: One of the important roles of libraries is to build a knowledge-based society ecosystem by making libraries an open interaction space through a library transformation strategy based on social inclusion. Purpose: The study was designed to investigate the issues associated with retooling and re-skilling cataloguing librarians in the digital era. Method: The design used is a qualitative analysis based on a detailed case study of the impact of the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation Program on Community Welfare in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Findings: The core impact of the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation Program is summarized by five objectives: enhancing access to information (via digitalization/literacy), fostering community skills development (via targeted training), reducing unemployment rates (via job skills/entrepreneurship), promoting social participation (via community engagement), and improving the local economy (via business development/creative economy). Conclusion: Through the programs implemented, libraries can strengthen their role as public libraries in improving the quality of human resources, so that community literacy skills increase, enabling them to play a more active role in sustainable development and achieving the goals set out in the SDGs.

Abstract

Background of the study: This study investigates the implementation of innovative archive management by examining the interaction between organizational culture and knowledge governance within the Surabaya City Library and Archives Office. As public institutions move toward data-driven and innovative information environments, understanding how cultural and governance structures support technological adaptation becomes essential. Purpose: This study investigates the implementation of innovative archive management by examining the interaction between organizational culture and knowledge governance within the Surabaya City Library and Archives Office. Method: Employing a quantitative survey method with purposive sampling, data were collected from 120 employees who had served for more than one year. The data were analyzed using SmartPLS to test both direct and mediating relationships. Findings: The results reveal that innovative archive management significantly enhances the quality, accessibility, and security of digital records. Moreover, organizational culture and knowledge governance play crucial roles in reinforcing innovation, collaboration, and compliance in archival processes. Conclusion: These findings emphasize that successful digital transformation in public-sector archiving requires not only technological readiness but also cultural adaptability and effective knowledge-governance mechanisms to ensure sustainable institutional learning and accountability.
