Abstract

The research on effect of types and concentration of auxin on root induction of apical shoots Bayur (Pterospermum javanicum jungh.) in attempt to propagate of revegetation plants was conducted from May to August 2015 in the Nursery and Greening of Andalas University, and Laboratory of Plant Physiology Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Andalas University. The aimed to know the response of apical shoots Bayur (P. javanicum) on  root induction by providing some type and concentration of Auxin. This research used method of Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with seven treatments and three replications. The treatments consist of control, IBA 100 ppm, IBA 200 ppm, NAA 100 ppm, NAA 200 ppm, IAA 100 ppm, IAA 200 ppm. The result of this study showed that there was no respons of any treatments in inducing root of  apical shoots of Bayur (P. javanicum). Keywords: Auxin, Pterospermum javanicum, revegetation, root induction

Abstract

Pollen morphology of three variants of Arundina graminifolia in West Sumatra was examined. The pollen types, shapes, apertures and ornamentations were examined using scanning electron microscope. There was variation of pollen shape between three variant of Arundina graminifolia. There was different of pollen shape white variant to pink and purple variant. The pollen shape of white variant were oblate sferoidal. The prolate shapes were detected at pink and purpe variant. Three variants Arundina graminifolia have the same ornamentation exine that is the reticulum and there kolpus of the same type, namely tri-kolpate and tetra-kolpate

Abstract

Research about morphological characterization of Etlingera elatior  (Jack) R.M.Sm. (Zingiberaceae) was conducted from August to December 2016 in West Sumatra regions (Kepulauan Mentawai, Solok, and Padang Pariaman) and Padang city. Etlingera elatior has been used as traditional medicines for several diseases. Etlingera elatior was used for the treatment of various diseases. Effectivityof this plant depend on the preciseus in of the determinating variants type. The aim of this research was analyzed morphological variation among populations of Etlingera elatior. Survey and direct sampling method were used and continued by measurement of morphological characters of Etlingera elatior. Classification analyzed by cluster analysis with PAST program. Based on differentiation of the bract color of flowers, four variants of Etlingera elatior in West Sumatra were clarified those were 'red', 'pink', 'pale pink', and 'white' variant. The result of cluster analysis of 53 individuals Etlingera elatior indicated that many of 'white' and the 'red' variant were clustered in the same main cluster and individuals of 'pale pink' variant mostly clustered to 'red' variant and some of them were existed in the 'pink’ variant.

Abstract

The research about callus induction Artemisia vulgaris L. by giving several concentration 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), has been done from May to August 2015 in Plant Physiology Laboratory and Tissue Culture, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, University of Andalas. The aim of this studywas found the effective concentration of 2,4-D to induce callus of A. vulgaris. The research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 7 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were : without 2,4-D (control); 0.25 mg/L 2,4-D; 0.50 mg/L 2,4-D; 0.75 mg/L 2,4-D; 1.00 mg/L 2,4-D; 1.25 mg/L 2,4-D; 1.5 mg/L 2,4-D. The result showed that 0.25-1,5 mg/L 2,4-D were able induction callus of A. vulgaris, withcompactuntilthefriabletexture, color ofthe resultingcallusisyellowish green, brownish-green, yellow-brown, whiteyellowishandgreenishwhite. 2,4-D 1.5mg/Lwas the best concentrationto increase fresh weight of callus.

Abstract

The research related to Isolation of the Hydrocarbon Degrading Bacteria in the Contaminated Soil of the Automotive Workshop was conducted from May to October 2014 at Laboratory of Microbiology, Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Andalas University. The aimed of this study was to find  the bacteria able to degradate the hydrocarbon from the lubricating oil contaminated soil and to descripe characterization of isolates. This study used a survey method in isolation and characterization of hydrocarbon degrading bacteria.  The result obtained that the bacteria able to degradate the hydrocarbon from the lubricating oil contaminated soil about 39.02% (1.6x105 cfu/g). Five isolates were found (BTTO1, BTTO2, BTTO3, BTTO4 and BTTO5) has a rod shaped, Gram-negative, motile and positive catalase.

Abstract

An inventory of spiders araneidae (Arachnida: Araneae) from Nature Reserve Lembah Anai, Tanah Datar , West Sumatra was conducted from March to December 2015 by using the sweeping, hand collection,  beating and sieving methods. From a total of  37  individuals , we identified  to 9 species that belong to 6 genera.  Araneus has the top species number of species (3 species), while, Acusilas, Clycosa, Argiope, Gasteracantha, Larinia and Nephila were found only one species for each one.

Abstract

The study on aggressive behavior of long-tailed macaques has been conducted from May to July 2016 at Gunung Meru, Padang, West Sumatra. This study aimed to compare between provocated and non-provocated aggressive behaviors of the macaques toward human visitors at Gunung Meru feeding site. This study used all-occurrence sampling method to record aggressive interactions from the macaques along the visitors behavior. One or more visitors were followed for ten minutes at the monkey feeding ground for a total 78.5 hours. The aggressive behaviors of long-tailed macaques either provocated or non-provocated were considerably high intensity level, including body contact and biting. Feeding contexts (i.e. food exposure, feeding, and contact feeding) become the main situation resulting provocative aggressions. This study suggest that monkeys and human visitors have a potential close contact and could be pathogen transmission.

Abstract

Pigeon orchid is one of epiphytic wild orchids and very important species in the genus Dendrobium. Flowering phenology of this species is still unclear. The purpose of this study was to describe flowering phenology of pigeon orchid. The study was conducted in Limau Manis Padang, West Sumatera and has been done from May until October 2015. Some aspects of flowering phenology such as the phase of flowers, flowering period, rainy time and stigma receptivity were observed. The results of this research  indicated that pigeon orchid flowering was induced by dicreasing of the temperature after rain. Flowers development consist of six phases from bud phase to be wilt with a span of 14 days and sometime stigma has begun receptive before the anthesis but optimal stage of stigma receptivity pigeon orchid occurs during anthesis.Key word: Phenology, pigeon orchid, stigma reseptivity.

Abstract

The research about The Effect of Some Alkaloid’s Plant Extract as Activator and the plant media for Acetobacter xylinum (Brown.) Holland in  Fermented of Kombucha Tea, has been done from February to September in STIKes Perintis Laboratory. The aim of this study to know the effects of some alkaloid’s plant extract as activator and the plant media for Acetobacter xylinum (Brown.) Holland in  Fermented of Kombucha Tea. The research used Completely Random Design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were : black tea, green tea, leaf of coffea, leaf of cocoa, coffea powder and cocoa powder. The result showed that the use of several types of plant extract beralkaloid effect on Kombucha tea products. In this study obtained the average of the highest total bacteria Acetobacter xylinum 117.50 x 107 cfu / ml, the value of pH 3.82, sugar content 9.67. The results of the organoleptic assessment of flavor and taste showed the highest panelist favorites level in Kombucha chocolate powder that is 3.07 (very good) and 3.47 (very good).
