Abstract

A study of P – nutrient status (P – soil) in the maize production central in Kinali, Luhak Nan Duo in Pasaman, Sub Regency Pasaman Barat to find of the recommendation of phosphorous (P) fertilization. A study is conducted from October to December 2005. Method of research by crossed land area and took soil sampling with composite. Each soil sampling represented of land area research 50 – 80 ha with 0 – 20 cm dept for land area 7702,2 ha and 97 soil sample and then analyzed by Bray II methods. From 7702,2 ha of land area were survey founded P high content 5351,5 ha (69,4 %), P – with middle content 1487,5 ha (19,3 %) and P – lower content 863,2 ha (11,2 %). Based on soil P – status, P nutrient requirement to 90,250 and 500 kg SP 36 respectively and yield prospecting 4,5 ton/ha with 14 % water content equal to 8 ton dry grain seed at harvesting with water content 25%.Key Words: P-fertilizer, Fertilization Recommendation, Soil P-status

Abstract

A research about movement of clay materials of soil body compiler through mechanism infiltrate and soils permeability have been conducted. The Result of research show happened movement of clay materials of soil body compiler both of soil parent materials. The maximum rate of infiltration at the soil derived from parent materials of Clay stone reach 8,79 cm / hour and downhill at deepness 52 cm ( BW1 horizon ) with speed 1,71 cm / hour. Referring to that seen rate of infiltration to cause happened movement of clay materials with tendency increase from 33 % at A horizon, increased of become 44 % at Bw1 horizon. While at the soil derived from parent materials of Sand stone that its maximum rate of infiltration reach 8,59 cm / hour and downhill at deepness 145 cm and show the increasing of clays content according to deepness of horizon and soil at Ap horison have 22% of clay and increased of become 50 % at horison 2Bt2 . Abstract

Study about soil organic matter (SOM) leaching in soil profiles of tropical rain forest was conducted in Bukit Pinang-Pinang, the upper footslope of Mt. Gadut in West Sumatra, and in Soil Physical laboratory Andalas University Padang.  Bukit Pinang-Pinang is located on 480-640 m asl and geographically is between 100°29’40” and 100°30’20 E”  as well as between 0°54’55” and 0°55’45”S.  This rain forest area is known as a super wet area because it receives high annual rainfall (>3500 mm).  The objective of this research was to measure the amount of SOM leached from top soil into the deeper soil.  Undisturbed soil samples were taken from three different land uses, forest, bush, and mixed garden, on the top, middle, and foot slopes.  Undisturbed soil samples were leached with distilled water as the amount of rainfall accepted in natural condition. The results showed that, land use change from forest into ecosystems of mixed garden (for over 50 years with 100% soil surface coverage and without any cultivation) and bush land (for over 20 years left) did not cause the SOM content in the profiles decreased. Amount of SOM leached from the top 0-10 cm was found greater from mixed garden, then followed by forest on the upper slope, forest on the middle slope, and bush area.Keywords: SOM leaching, land use change, tropical rain forest, bush, mixed garden

Abstract

The national maize necessity directly increase in the last few years. On the years 1996-2000 periods rate of maize import was about 52,08 % per year. The amount of national maize need for feeding increased approximately 52,4% of food derived from maize to increase the national maize production by expansions of maize hybrid and composite. However their development on the former still slowly. The production increasing from 1996 to 2001 0,17% on year and maize productivity about 2,67 t/ha. In the west sumatera by exspansion maize planting area and utilization of land area more efficient, and include land area either coconut plant. West sumatera province had coconut plantation would total area 91,920 ha. And spreahed in some regensi and city. The result of the experiment and assessment in west sumatera BPTP. In land area inter coconut plant plant can be growth maize C5,C7 and C9 hybrids and yield average about 5,0 6,7 t/ha in 50 kota dan Padang Pariaman regency with r/c ratio 1,9 2,5. From the result of research and assessment of west sumatera BPTP. Application of land area inter coconut plant had opportunity to increase maize production in West Sumatera. Abstract

Land preparation and organic matter application was chosen as an alternative to improve soil physical, chemical, and biological properties in increasing yield of maize. The field experiment was conducted in Koto Baru Simalanggang, Lima Puluh Kota Regency,  West Sumatra, in the dry season 2007.  The treatments consist of three types of land preparation ( no tillage, direct composting in the area, and strip tillage)  and two levels of organic matter application  ( 0 and 2 t/ha). Objectives of the experiment were to observe the effect of land preparation methods and organic matter application on growth and yield of maize in the upland area. Results of the experiment showed that, land preparation types did not give significant effect on all parameter  observed. Application of organic matter 2 t/ha had increased cob length, number of seed per row, and yield of maize.  Maize yield was about 6.07 t/ha without and 6.85 t/ha with organic matter application.  Key Words   : Land preparation System, Organic  Matter Application,  Maize , Upland Area.

Abstract

A research conducted in Sungai Rumbai, Dharmasraya Regency and in Soil Laboratory Andalas university was aimed to evaluate soil fertility status on the depth below 0-20 cm from several land use types , especially under Mixed Garden and annual cultivated dryland soil.  Soil samples were taken on Ultisol at 0-8% slope (late-waving soil surface).  Land use types evaluated were forest, annual cultivated dryland, bush land, rangeland covered by Imperata cylindrica and mixed garden.  Composite soil samples for soil chemical analysis were taken on the 0-20 cm soil depth with four replications, and 5 drillings for each replication.  Undisturbed soil samples by using sample ring were used to analyze sol bulk volume.  The data resulted were compared to the criteria and were statistically tested using Analysis of Variance and then were continued by LSD at 5% level.  From the results of analyses could be concluded that land use  for mixed garden had the higher Organic Carbon (OC) content and the lower bulk volume (BV) than those for annual cultivated dryland soil.Key Words: Degradasi Lahan, Kebun Campuran, Tegalan

Abstract

To look for the effect of gold snail (Pomacea canaliculata) addition on soil nutrition level, a series of pot experiment was conducted in Faculty of Agriculture and P3IN laboratories from March to June 2008. This study used completely randomized design with 2 kinds of treatments. First iwas gold snail composition (A1 = snail shell, A2 = snail body, and A3 = whole snail) and incubation period (B1 = 2 weeks, B2 = 3 weeks, and B3 = 4 weeks). The results showed that these treatments affect some of soil chemical properties. Soil pH changed from acid to slightly acid, total nitrogen rose from low to medium, exchangeable base cations also increased. On the other hand, exchangeable aluminum (Al) decreased. Interaction between the treatments successfully increased organic carbon, available phosphorous, and cation exchange capacity. The best treatment combination was between body composition of gold snail and a four-week incubation period.Key Words: gold snail, Ultisols, soil chemical characteristics

Abstract

Limapuluh Kota Regency has the largest critical land in West Sumatra. Based on the Decree of the Director General of Management of Watershed and Forestry, Ministry of Forestry Number: SK.4 / V-DAS / 2015 on National Forest Critical Map and Data of 2013, there is a critical land area of 94,593.7 ha and very critical land area of 32,488 ha In Limapuluh Kota Regency. This number will continue to grow if no appropriate recovery is done. With hilly dominated topography and large slopes of 40%, the Agroforestry Program is well suited to be developed to address critical lands in Limapuluh Kota Regency. The effort to restore critical land in Limapuluh Kota Regency must be integrated in between technology and character of local culture. This study aims to obtain information on the recovery of critical land with agroforestry systems and the characteristics of the Minangkabau Community. The method used is qualitative descriptive with interview technique and document tracking. The results of the study indicate that the cultural character of the Minangkabau Community should be a concern / consideration in the development of the Agroforestry Program as the basis for the involvement of community participation in Limapuluh Kota Regency in order to succeed. Some of the characters adopted by the Minangkabau community in decision-making are: authority, deliberation/consensus, leadership, critical attitude toward change, egalitarian and democracy and ulayat lands. The character can be considered in applying agroforestry program in Limapuluh Kota Regency.Keywords: critical land, agroforestry, character of local culture, Minangkabau Society

Abstract

The use of organic fertilizers in agricultural production can not only increase soil fertility but also at the same time improve soil quality. Organic fertilizer is a unique product because it can improve physical properties, chemical, and biological soil as plant growth media. These characteristics bring the organic fertilizers into a valuable product that can be used in a variety of use. Today in Indonesia, there are so many outstanding varieties of organic fertilizer products either refined or imported products. Monitoring of the quality and feasibility of organic fertilizer materials is needed, so they will not harm the farmers as consumers. Each country develops criteria standard of organic fertilizer valuing each country's interest. United States, Canada, Australia and Europe use different compost quality criteria tailored to the needs and environmental rules that apply. So far in Indonesia rules used in determining quality is Permentan No. 02/Pert/HK.060/2/2006 which was then updated with Permentan No.28/PERMENTAN/OT.140/2/2009 on Organic Fertilizers and Soil Ameliorant. Basically, the appraisal made on the maturity and quality of organic fertilizers is based on observation of physical, chemical, and biological parameters. Review of the criteria used in the Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture was necessary in considering the criteria used which are very harmful to consumers, such as if it is satated that C-organic content is approximately 12%, which is low, it means that there might exist some follow-up materials such as glass, plastic in the fertilizer about 2%. If the rules are maintained, it will be very detrimental to Indonesia because of invasion from over seas. Import organic fertilizers would be siege to Indonesian farmers. Permentan No.28/PERMENTAN/SR.130/5/2009 has also set up institutions in charge of monitoring the quality of organic fertilizers. However, the quality control must be carried out. It is not only at the level of the end product, but it must also begin from the moment of the production process by establishing a supervisory agency competent. Since organic fertilizers can be produced by large industries, small and medium-scale farmers, the level of supervision is needed with different approaches. Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan menentukan interaksi antara Titonia (Tt) dan takaran pupuk P-starter (P-s) terhadap produksi padi sawah intensifikasi. Penelitian berlokasi di Kenagarian Sicincin Kabupaten Padang Pariaman Sumatera Barat. Percobaan berbentuk faktorial 2x3 dalam rancangan petak terbagi (RPT) dengan 3 kelompok. Petak utama adalah dosis Tt, Urea, dan KCl, T0=0,0 tonha-1 Tt+200kgUrea+75kgKCl (Urea dan KCl rekomendasi=R); T1=5, tonha-1 Tt+100 kgUrea (Urea 50% R), tanpa KCl.  Anak petak adalah dosis P-s; P0 = 0kg P ha-1; P3 = 3kg P ha-1; P6 = 6kg P ha-1. Dibuat pula 3 petak kontrol menurut tradisi petani (200kg SP-36ha-1, dan 200kg Ureaha-1). Pengamatan dilakukan terhadap tanah dan tanaman, data tanaman diuji F, dan dilanjutkan dengan Uji BNT taraf 5%.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Tt dapat digunakan sebagai pupuk alternatif untuk menghemat penggunaan pupuk buatan (PB) berupa pupuk N (Urea), pupuk P (SP-36 atau TSP), dan pupuk K (KCl) untuk tanaman padi sawah intensifikasi. Penggunaan Tt sebanyak 5,0ton kering ha-1 dapat mengurangi dosis PB hingga 50% pupuk N (100kg Urea), 162kg SP-36, dan 100% pupuk K (75kg KCl) dengan hasil gabah sekitar 6,0 ton ha-1 (kadar air 14%). Pemberian Tt sebagai pupuk alternatif untuk mensubtitusi 50% penggunaan pupuk N, dan 100% pupuk K, dan mengurangi penggunaan pupuk P (81%) sehingga dapat menghemat biaya produksi. Dengan demikian Tt dapat direkomendasikan sebagai pupuk alternatif untuk mensubtitusi sekitar 50% penggunaan pupuk N, P, dan K pada tanah sawah intensifikasi.Kata kunci: Pupuk alternatif, pupuk buatan, sawah intensifikasi, titonia
