Abstract

This paper analyzes several aspects (technical, marketing, economic, social, and financial) of canned smoked fish (Pangasius) as a micro-industry in South Sumatra Province, Indonesia. This article adopts mix-methods. A quantitative method is used to explain technical, marketing, economic, and financial aspects, while the social aspect is explained using a qualitative method. The author collects the Pangasius species sample from nine districts in South Sumatra Province for the technical aspect. This sample transformed into canned smoked fish using several steps: preparation, making and cooking, filling process, exhausting, sealing sterilization, and cooling process. The author also collects secondary data and interviews several key informants to analyze the non-technical aspect of the canned smoked fish industry. A canned smoked fish (Pangasius) has excellent potential to develop as a micro-enterprise in South Sumatra, Indonesia. In the long-term, it could be an instrument for the local government to increase citizens' well-being based on local resources and penetrate the ASEAN free trade area. In a short time, it could be an instrument for the local government to manage the economic effect of COVID-19 in South Sumatera, Indonesia. This study could be a baseline for the government to create a policy for developing the smoked fish industry. The result of this study could be a second opinion in planning capital investment within the smoked fish industry at the SSP for the investor and the entrepreneur.

Abstract

Intense competition among companies encourages them to provide the best quality of products in competitive price. It is important for company to manage supply chain properly in order to achieve that. Selecting the best reliable supplier is the key to reduce purchasing cost, increase customer satisfaction and improve the competitive ability. In this study, we develop an order allocation model in multi echelon environment which includes supplier, manufacturer, and retailer. We consider transportation alternatives for the shipment from supplier to manufacturer and also the shipment from manufacturer to retailer. This model allows lateral transshipment between retailers. A Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) is used to model the system. Sensitivity analysis is conducted at the end of the research. The result shows that the retailer demand, lead time, material variable price are sensitive to the objective function while the transportation costs from supplier to manufacturer, from manufacturer to retailers, and between retailers are not sensitive to the objective function. Retailer demand parameter is also sensitive to all decision variables. The transportation cost from supplier to manufacturer, material prices, and lead time are sensitive to the order allocation from manufacturer to supplier, while transportation cost from manufacturer to retailers and transportation cost between retailers are sensitive to the allocation of product sent from the manufacturer to retailers and the allocation of product sent between retailers.

Abstract

Supplier performance evaluation is one of the important factors in the supply chain because it is one of the company's strategies for increasing customer satisfaction and also maintaining the company's services in meeting consumer demand. This study proposes the integration of the Analytic Network Process (ANP) and the Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE) to evaluate supplier performance. The integration of the two methods is proposed to obtain more complex assessment results because the combination of the two methods considers various criteria derived from ANP and various preferences from PROMETHEE, so both methods are very good to use instead of using just ANP or PROMETHEE or other methods. ANP exhibit more complex relationships between criteria and levels in the decision hierarchy, while PROMETHEE provides decision-makers with flexible and straightforward outranking to analyze multi-criteria problems. In this study, ANP is used to weight the criteria, and PROMETHEE is used to rank suppliers in evaluating supplier performance. Integrating these two methods provides more objective and accurate results in multi-criteria decision-making. The proposed method is validated by solving an industrial case of supplier evaluation problem using the real data from the skewer industry. Finally, some useful implications for managerial decision-making are discussed.

Abstract

Waste minimization is a key success factor to achieve sustainability, including in the edible oil industry. One type of solid waste produced substantially in this industry is spent bleaching earth (SBE), which comes from a mixture of bleaching earth (BE) and activated carbon (CA) used in the edible oil refining process. SBE that is recycled through a heating process is known as heat regenerated SBE (HRSBE). The process is influenced by two factors as stated in previous studies: temperature and time. In the current study, we report the results of experiments to find the optimal combination of temperature and time in restoring the absorbent quality of SBE by observing four quality parameters: colors (red and yellow), Free Fatty Acid (FFA), and Peroxide Value (PV). The current study uses Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to design the experiments and to find the equations of the relationship between the factors for each response; as well as Goal Programming (GP) to find the most optimal combination of factors in order to achieve aggregated quality targets. The findings show that 3.414 hours of heating at a temperature of 151.64oC allow HRSBE to produce coconut oil in accordance with the expected quality targets.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the egg-laying chicken feeder that was designed at egg-laying chicken farm small and medium enterprise (SME). The main reason of this tool design was due to the worker’s complain of feeling pain during the feeding process. Evaluation was performed based on Nordic Body Map questionnaire result, physiological workload, and NIOSH lifting equation calculation. The observed work ranged from the feed filling in the basket until all feeds were distributed. The results showed that the %CVL was in the range of 18%-30% and the energy consumption of workers was in the range of 1.24-3.00 Kcal/minute. Thus, physiologically, the work activities carried out by the feed workers were categorized as very light workload. Meanwhile, evaluation using Lifting Index (LI) methods in the process of feeding showed the LI value ranged from 0.9-1, therefore this activity is safe to perform manually. Based on the prototype evaluation on the feeding aid, the process of feeding activities was more effective 1.5 times faster than the old tools. In addition, with the use of this new tool, the feeding process was easier to adjust the dose each time.

Abstract

The ever-increasing volume of municipal waste in Yogyakarta brings overload capacity problems to the Piyungan Landfill. This circumstance results in environmental pollution which harms the local residents. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the impact of pollution in the Piyungan Landfill from an economic, environmental, and social perspective. Furthermore, this study aims to formulate a waste management strategy in the landfill using the fishbone analysis to find out the root causes of existing problems, the stakeholder analysis method to determine the role of each stakeholder involved, and the SWOT analysis method to determine potential strategies for waste management. From those analysis methods, it is concluded that there are six root causes in the landfill, namely the waste management process, the amount of waste, landfill facilities, the technology used, the implementation process, and government policies. This study recommends several waste management improvements from the combination of strengths and opportunities factors (SO Strategy). The combination of these strategies includes: (1) establishing cooperation policies with foreign parties. (S1, O1); (2) optimizing budget and waste management technology. (S2, O2); (3) providing transportation facilities and technology to optimize the recycled waste business. (S3, O2, O3); and (4) maximizing resources to optimize the recycled waste business. (S4, O3). These strategies are expected to be able to increase the capacity and capability of the Piyungan Landfill in managing waste and overcoming environmental pollution.

Abstract

One of the leading manufacturers in packaging paper in Indonesia has six production machines. To keep the production machine always in the best condition, then the role of maintenance is significant. One of the production machines, namely paper production machine 2 (PM2), has experienced increasing the number of breakdowns significantly, resulting in increased downtimes. Sudden failure causes a lengthy repair time and results in considerable production loss. The corrective maintenance method that is running at this time still not effectively reduce downtime. To minimize the number of downtimes, preventive maintenance is needed, and therefore the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) method is selected. Besides applying quantitative analysis such as Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), Mean Time To Failure (MTTF), reliability, and preventive cost calculations. This method also conducts qualitative analysis such as Functional Block Diagrams (FBD), critical engine analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Failure and Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). After implementing the preventive maintenance, there is an increase in reliability in the sub-system of the press section of the paper production machine 2 from only 43% to 56%, while the repair cost has been reduced by Rp 393,258,670 from Rp 5,724,825,736 to Rp 5,331,567,066 each time replacement of components in the press section. This decrease in costs will contribute to the profits earned by the company because it saves maintenance costs.

Abstract

There are a lot of baby carrier types commonly found in Indonesia. Aside from the massively produced baby carriers with modern shapes and features, the traditional ‘kain jarik’ baby carriers are still an option to mothers in Indonesia. The research was conducted to evaluate the subjective perception of the consumers in choosing to use a baby carrier. An evaluation was done to see the factors that influence consumers to choose a certain product and their correlations to the products’ designs. Kansei engineering is used as a method to identify the emotional perception of a consumer to a baby carrier by means of a questionnaire involving 525 respondents. The identification process results in several Kansei words that were grouped and used as a stimulus to the questionnaires meant to evaluate 4 samples of baby carriers commonly used in Indonesia. The result showed that there are 3 main factors that encouraged consumers to pick a baby carrier, which are comfort, design, and material. Based on those 3 factors, consumers gave their highest scores to a kangaroo or wrap baby carriers.
