Abstract

The  objective of the research was to identify  the level of soil development in paddy soil in Kaluku Tinggu Village Donggala Regency Central Sulawesi. The method used in this research was a survey method in which observation and soil sample were taken systematically using a grid system.  The distance between observation points was 250 m.  The observation on soil sample distribution is carried out by using soil auger.  Soil profile for observation of soil morphological characteristics was determined based on the result of the soil auger data.  The data of soil resulted from field and laboratory analysis were used to compare soil characteristics among horizon.  The average of each parameter was calculated using formula of balance average. The morphological soil characteristics observation on paddy field showed that the profile thickness was 0-80 cm, horizon thickness  >12 cm, soil color was  grayish to grayish red, texture was sandy loam and clay loam, soil structure was granular and rounded blocky, and soil consistency were sticky and plastic. Such soil characteristics indicated that the soil development was at a recent stage.  A long period under submerged condition has impeded the soil development.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to determine the value of redox potential (Eh), soil reaction (pH) and status of soluble soil Fe, P and Al as a result of organic matter addition under submerged condition in Ultisol Kulawi. It is expected that the research results could add more information; be used as consideration; and basis for effective paddy field management resulting in maximal production. The experimental research was conducted in March-June 2007. The sampled soil location was in Kulawi sub district, Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. Soil analysis was carried out in Soil Science Laboratory of Agricultural Faculty Tadulako University. The experiment used a Completely Randomized Block Design with factorial experiment. The first factor was various water depths: muddy (TG1), 10 cm (TG2), and 15 cm (TG3). The second factor was organic matter levels: 0 t ha-1 (BO1) and 15 t ha-1 (BO2). The various water depths and organic matter levels significantly increased the availability of phosphorous and significantly reduced the solubility of Fe and Al. Soil submergence with organic matter addition could improve soil fertility. The water depth of 10 cm with 20 t ha-1 organic matter was very effective in the paddy field management. With such condition soil pH increased close to neutral, available P improved, and Eh, soluble Fe and Al reducedKeywords : Organic matter, redox potential, and soil reaction

Abstract

The study of the efficacy of some bioinsecticides and their combinations to control Pagodiella spp. or bagworm attack on mangrove seedling was carried out in the seedling nursery of Malakosa and Sausu Peore Parigi Moutong, Central of Sulawesi, February to April 2008. A Nested design was applied in a Completely Randomize Design, where three levels of spraying intervals and eleven-application methods with three replications were used. The results showed that the application of microbial insecticides of Bacillus thuringiensis individually was effective in depressing Pagodiella spp. bagworm attacks (increasing of damage level 8,98% and 14,38%, respectively) also combination (increasing of damage level 11,36%). The combination applications among microbial insecticides and botanical insecticides were also effective in depressing Pagodiella spp. bagworm attacks. But both of the combination applications had no synergistic effect. Whereas the combination among botanical insecticides of mimba and sirsak were effective in depressing Pagodiella spp. bagworm attacks, which also produced synergistic effect (increasing of damage level 12,98%).

Abstract

A study aiming at comparing the effectiveness of seed extract of Phaleria papuena Warb and chemical insecticides for controlling beet armyworm pest (Spodoptera exigua Hubner) at the onion crops has been conducted. The experiment was set up by using a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and tree replicates. The treatments applied were: without insecticide application as a control (P0), botanical insecticide, Phaleria papuena extract 2% (P1), 4% (P2), and 6% (P3), and chemical insecticide, prevathon 50 SC (P4). Variables measured were Spodoptera exigua population density and intensity of pest infestation. Results showed that application of botanical  and chemical insecticides significantly reducing the population density and the infestation of Spodoptera exigua. Effectiveness of Phaleria papuena extract 6% (P3) and prevathon (P4) was not significantly different in controlling Spodoptera exigua. In average, the application of Phaleria. papuena extract 6% (P3) and prevathon (P4) reduced population density at 9.4% and 9.3%, respectively, and infestation intensity of Spodoptera exigua 37.8% and 36.7%, respectively. These results suggest that the seed extract of Phaleria papuena is highly potential to be developed as botanical insecticide. Key Words : Botanical insecticides, Phaleria papuena, Spodoptera exigua.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the contribution of the agricultural sub-sector in the economy of Sigi district, to determine the basis agricultural sector in Sigi district in prioritizing regional development in order to compete in the Central Sulawesi economy, and to analyze the growth of the agricultural sector and agricultural competitiveness in Sigi district. The largest contribution of the agricultural sector (51.58%) in generating the GRDP of Sigi district, during the year 2013-2017, occurred in 2014 while the lowest contribution (47.58%) occurred in 2017. The food crop sub-sector, despite experiencing declines in recent years, continues to make contribution to Sigi district GRDP.  The agricultural sector shows an average LQ value of 1.49, which confirms that the agricultural sector is one of the basis sectors in Sigi Regency. The comparative advantage in the agricultural sector is strongly influenced by the plantation crop sub-sector and the food crop sub-sector with the average LQ values were 1.72 and 1.15, respectively. The shift share analysis of the provincial share component shows that the agricultural sector has a large contribution to the performance of Sigi economy which is influenced by the economic growth of Central Sulawesi Province as much as IDR 48.44 billions. The proportional shift component shows that the value of the agricultural sector is IDR -406.949 billion indicating that the economy of Sigi district specializes in the same sector and it grows slowly in the economy of Central Sulawesi Province. The differential shift component shows that the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors have competitive advantages with a value of IDR 1.30 billions.

Abstract

The research aimed to gain the appropriate NAA concentration in performing tissue culture of dragon fruit plants. The research was compiled by using completely randomized design consisting of 4 treatments and each treatment was repeated 6 times that 24 experimental units were done. The variables observed include the number of shoots, the number of roots, the number of segments, and the length of shoots observed at the age of 4 weeks and 8 weeks after planting. The research findings reveal that on the observation at 4 weeks after planting the NAA concentration has effect on the number of segments and the elongation of shoots, yet it does not have effect on the number of shoots and roots, while at 8 weeks after planting the NAA concentration has effect on the number of shoots, the number of roots, the number of segments, and the length of shoots. The research findings also show that the treatment of N3 (0.3 ppm NAA) gives better result compared with other treatments in which the average number of shoots formed is 5.50 per explant, the number of roots formed is 3.50 per explant, the number of segments formed is 8.83 per explant and the average length of shoots formed is 2.13 cm per explant. Key Words : Dragon Fruit, NAA Concentration, In Vitro.
