Abstract

The potential of the tourism sector plays an important role in supporting local and global economic growth. The trend of developing rural tourism or tourist villages is interesting to study, considering that each region in Indonesia has its own natural and cultural wealth. One of them is the tourist village in the Borobudur area. This study aims to explore the tourism potential in these villages using a SWOT analysis, focusing on their natural and cultural heritage represented by Borobudur Temple. The Village Economic Center, which was built on the initiative of the government, aims to increase economic opportunities by utilizing local wisdom in offering accommodation and cultural experiences, thereby extending the length of stay of tourists. This study uses a qualitative approach, including interviews and literature studies, to understand the perspectives of stakeholders in Karangrejo Tourism Village and its surroundings. The findings show that although these villages have the strength of beautiful natural landscapes and rich cultural assets, issues such as environmental preservation and community involvement remain crucial for sustainable tourism development. This study contributes to the discussion on village tourism development strategies based on the results of a SWOT analysis with an emphasis on community involvement and sustainable practices to encourage local economic growth. Future research can explore broader stakeholder perspectives using analytical frameworks other than SWOT for a more comprehensive planning strategy.

Abstract

Community-based Tourism (CBT) is one of the concepts of tourism development through the role of local communities that is increasingly being developed in various specific tourist destinations. This study aims to explore the impact of tourism on the economic sector in realizing community welfare in Karangrejo Tourism Village, Borobudur District, Magelang Regency, through the role of CBT. In the process of managing and strategic tourism governance, Karangrejo Village has succeeded in implementing a fairly innovative and sustainable tourism base to be able to feel the positive impact of realizing the independence of the tourist village. The descriptive phenomenological approach was carried out through observation, interviews, and various documentation. The results show that the CBT strategy produces: (1) new business opportunities; (2) improving community skills; (3) opening access to a wider market; and (4) in the context of income, it is able to improve the welfare of the community involved by reducing poverty rates. In line with this, CBT is also able to encourage the preservation of culture and the environment to become an identity and strengthen the attraction in Karangrejo Tourism Village. Therefore, the active role and willingness of the local community to utilize the potential of Karangrejo Village has opened up broad economic opportunities so as to encourage the creation of sustainable local economic stability.

Abstract

Karangrejo Tourism Village is one of the tourism villages that implements Community-Based Tourism (CBT) as the main strategy in managing and developing local tourism. Through active community involvement in various initiatives such as tour guide services, empowerment through the Sumber Makmur Organic Farmers Association (PPOSM), development of Kampung Organic agrotourism, provision of homestays based on local wisdom, as well as environmental cleaning and education activities, CBT has succeeded in improving economic welfare and maintaining environmental sustainability. This study aims to explore the context of environmental sustainability that arises with tourism using the CBT model. The method used in this study is qualitative-descriptive using primary and secondary data obtained through interviews and document studies by reviewing relevant sources. The data shows that village income reached 2 billion rupiah, reflecting a positive contribution from the implementation of CBT. The success of Karangrejo Village in implementing CBT shows that with the right strategy and strong community participation, community-based tourism can be a model for developing sustainable tourism villages that provide economic, social, and environmental benefits holistically. This study underlines the importance of CBT management in supporting sustainability for the environment and provides recommendations for other regions to develop it.

The data collection technique used in this research was a field survey with a questionnaire. The analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression using IBM-SPSS Statistics 26. The research results showed that the variables of attraction, accessibility, and amenities simultaneously had a significant effect on tourists' intention to revisit. Partially, the attractiveness and accessibility variables have a significant effect on tourists' interest in returning to visit, but the amenities variable does not have a significant effect on tourists' interest in returning to visit.

Abstract

In recent years, the CBT (Community-Based Tourism) group of Sosromenduran Tourism Kampung along with the Sosromenduran Village Government and its subordinate government bodies have been striving to develop the branding of the seven kampungs it oversees. As one of the targeted kampungs, Sosrowijayan Kulon Kampung has already had its own branding due to the pre-existing presence of Sarkem (Pasar Kembang), which is widely known as a prostitution localization. Consequently, the goal was not to create a new brand from scratch but to rebrand it. This research aimed to examine the rebranding efforts of Sosrowijayan Kulon Kampung through stakeholder collaboration in Sosromenduran Tourism Kampung. A qualitative descriptive method was used with data collection through document and literature studies, observation, and semi-structured interviews with stakeholders in Sosromenduran Tourism Kampung and tourists. The research findings show that the rebranding efforts of Sosrowijayan Kulon Kampung are conducted according to stages through collaboration of various stakeholders based on pentahelix model with their respective roles, including the CBT group as initiator by encouraging community involvement and guiding in tour packages, the government as regulator and facilitator through physical and non-physical development programs, mass media as expander by disseminating information, tourism academic and consultant as conceptor through scientific publications and preparation of development program plans, and hotel and other business units as accelerator through CSR programs. Nevertheless, this collaborative effort cannot be declared successful so further actions are required.

Abstract

The role of local community involvement in the development of tourism activities in tourist villages is a critical aspect. However, issues regarding community participation in these villages are still prevalent. In light of this phenomenon, the present study examines the impact of dual management within the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) in Nglanggeran Tourism Village. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing literature studies and interviews as data collection techniques. The findings of the study reveal the existence of dual management practices that do not comply with the regulations outlined in Governor Regulation No. 40 of 2020, which pertains to the management of Pokdarwis, tourist villages, and village apparatus. These dual management practices are observed in the overlap between the management of Pokdarwis and the management of the tourist village, as well as between Pokdarwis and village officials. Based on the interview data, this dual management phenomenon appears to be a strategy to optimize limited human resources due to challenges in generational succession, while also minimizing potential conflicts between different levels of village management. In light of these findings, the research team recommends that future studies explore the perspectives of the local community regarding Governor Regulation No. 40 of 2020. This recommendation responds to the ongoing issue of dual management in the Nglanggeran Tourist Village.
