Abstract

Tourism development in villages can bring wealth. But rural elites use it to keep their power. This is the case in Desa Wisata Bira Tengah, Sampang Regency. The headman has strong influence in tourism at a village-owned enterprise (VOE). He does this by empowering his clients and placing his core kin in key positions. This study aims to: (1) analyze patronage and nepotism in tourism management at Desa Wisata Bira Tengah, Sampang Regency and (2) assess the impact of patronage and nepotism on tourism management. This study uses a qualitative approach. It collects data via literature studies, interviews, observations, and documents. The technique for selecting research subjects is purposive sampling. This study applies Spradley's ethnographic approach as a data analysis method. The study found that patronage occurred between the headman and the VOE director as patrons, with the employees as clients. Patrons use their authority on VOE to help clients. They provide access to work in tourism and to protection. Clients repay by backing the patron in conflicts and politics. The headman places his core kin in these roles: director VOE, head of the tourism unit, head of the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), and secretary and treasurer. Patronage and nepotism have downsides. They weaken accountability and transparency, reduce employee initiative, and create exclusivity. The positive impact that has emerged is to make the team solid.

Abstract

This research seeks to analyse the relationship between halal tourism and millennial tourists' attitudes and behaviour, as well as to explore the relationship between Islamic and sustainability principles that influence the formation of responsible behaviour among millennial tourists. This research uses a descriptive analysis approach to qualitative data based on the results of a systematic literature review. A total of 45 scientific articles from reputable journal databases (Scopus, World of Science, Google Scholars, Crossref, DOAJ, and Semantic) were collected using Mendeley software to be examined based on the identification of their frameworks and concept maps. This study has proposed a new concept map that is interesting for further research, namely that the experience of travelling to destinations labelled as halal tourism influences the formation of responsible behaviour, based on the application of Islamic principles and sustainability. Unfortunately, this study is still limited to a systematic literature review focusing on the analysis of 45 scientific articles, as well as being limited to the context of the millennial generation and halal tourism in Indonesia. Therefore, the relationship between halal labelling and the responsible behaviour of millennial tourists in tourist destinations that are in line with Islamic values and sustainability still needs to be followed up with further research.

Abstract

The @jaswitatourism account is a digital promotional platform managed by PT Jaswita Jabar (Perseroda), a state-owned enterprise (BUMD) operating in the services and tourism sector. Social media is considered effective in shaping perceptions, destination imagery, and tourist interest. This study employs a quantitative approach using descriptive and correlational methods. Data was collected through a questionnaire distributed to 97 respondents. Since the data was not normally distributed, the Spearman Rank test and Rank-Based Regression were used to test the hypotheses. The results indicate that social media has a significant influence on inbound tourism interest, with a determination coefficient of 65.3%. This means that social media explains more than half of the variation in respondents' tourism interest. Descriptive results also show that most indicators scored high, particularly in content creation and destination image, although there are still weaknesses in content sharing.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe the influence of consumer behavior on guest stay decisions at Pondok Merapi Homestay, located in Samiran Tourism Village, Selo District, Boyolali Regency. The background of the study is the increasing number of homestays in Selo District, from 47 units in 2017 to 84 units in 2024, which has given rise to intense competition. The study used a quantitative method with a sample of 80 respondents taken using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire that included four independent variables (psychological, social, economic, and situational factors) and one dependent variable (stay decision). The results showed that simultaneously, all four consumer behavior factors significantly influenced stay decisions with a contribution of 70.08%. Social factors had the highest influence coefficient (0.214) through online recommendations and reviews indicators, while economic factors had the lowest influence (0.119). These findings confirm that social interaction, online reputation, and recommendations are the main determinants in making stay decisions amidst intense competition. Managers are advised to strengthen their homestay's online image as an effective electronic word of mouth (e-WOM).

Abstract

This study aims to formulate development strategies for the Kramat Beach tourism destination in Kramat Village, Taliabu Island. The main issue examined is the low number of tourist visits, which necessitates strategies to enhance the destination’s attractiveness for both local and out-of-region tourists. The research employs a qualitative approach using Community-Based Tourism (CBT) and SWOT analysis. The results indicate that Kramat Beach possesses significant natural tourism potential, including white sandy Beaches, panoramic views of the two Kramat Islands, coral reefs, and clear seawater, as well as local vegetation such as coconut and Ketapang trees that enhance visitor comfort. Development strategies are implemented through digital promotion (YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook) and the provision of supporting amenities such as gazebos, nighttime lighting, and aesthetic photo spots. The SWOT analysis places the destination in Quadrant I (Aggressive Strategy) with an IFAS score of 2.70 and an EFAS score of 2.85, indicating strong internal strengths and high external opportunities. The SO strategy becomes the main focus, supported by WO, ST, and WT strategies, to enhance competitiveness, extend tourists’ length of stay, and encourage sustainable, community-based tourism development. The study concludes that the Kramat Beach tourism destination in Kramat Village, Taliabu Island Regency, has considerable tourism potential for further development. This potential includes the natural beauty of white sandy Beaches, clear seawater, marine biodiversity, and panoramic views of surrounding small islands that support the development of nature and marine tourism. In addition, the destination’s location, which is relatively close to the regency capital, provides ease of access for tourists and serves as a strategic advantage in regional tourism development.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the tourism sector in Indonesia. As part of the recovery efforts, the government introduced the Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment Sustainability (CHSE) standards to ensure the safety, health, and comfort of tourists. Taman Pintar Yogyakarta, an educational tourism destination certified with CHSE, has experienced a notable increase in visitor numbers over the past three years. This study aims to examine the implementation of CHSE standards at the tourist attractions within Taman Pintar Yogyakarta in 2025. A descriptive method with a mixed approach was applied, using observation, interviews, and documentation for data collection. The research instrument employed was a checklist based on the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 9042:2021. The findings revealed that none of the ten tourist attractions at Taman Pintar Yogyakarta fully met all CHSE indicators. Eight attractions fulfilled 48 out of 49 indicators (98%), while the other two fulfilled 47 indicators (96%). The most common shortcomings were related to safety indicators, particularly the unavailability of assembly point maps, as well as cleanliness facilities such as toilets that were not functioning properly.
