Abstract

The study aimed to explore the correlation between mathematics and culture in the Cakalele dance and its application into mathematics learning. This research was exploratory research, utilizing ethnographic methods. The subjects consisted of six people, where five people were from Kampung Baru village, Kecamatan Banda subdistrict (three dancers and trainers, one traditional expert, and one community leader) and with one mathematics teacher from SMP Negeri 34 Central Maluku. The research findings on Cakalele dance culture reveal elements such as types of movements, attire and accessories, weaponry and musical instruments, displays, all incorporating mathematical concepts such as lines and angles, triangles and quadrilaterals, spatial shapes, and geometric transformations. Mathematical elements found in the Cakalele dance can be applied in education by utilizing musical instruments and kapseti as contextual objects to teach the shapes of cylinders and cones to 9th grade junior high school students. The use of movements like (bunga), salawaku, gestures, and gong as teaching media for geometric transformations supports realistic and contextual outdoor learning experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and analyze the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of Interactive Learning Media Based on Discovery Learning in enhancing students' problem solving skills and mathematical disposition. This research employs the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and  Evaluation) development model. The learning media is developed in a digital format accessible via mobile devices or laptops and is designed interactively with an attractive interface, vibrant colors, and supplemented with audio and video learning materials. The Discovery Learning model implemented in this media consists of six main steps, namely stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data processing, verification, and generalization. Data collection techniques in this study included expert validation questionnaires, practicality questionnaires for students and teachers, as well as pretest and posttest assessments. The findings indicate that this Interactive Learning Media Based on Discovery Learning is highly valid, with an average validation score of 90.5% from subject matter experts, media experts, and design experts. Furthermore, this media achieved a practicality score of 86.72%, demonstrating that it is highly practical and easy to use by both students and teachers in the learning process. In terms of effectiveness, the posttest results show a significant improvement, with an average posttest score of 90% compared to the pretest score of 45.8%, confirming that this media is highly effective in enhancing students' understanding and problem-solving skills. Thus, based on validation results, practicality tests, and effectiveness evaluations, it can be concluded that the Interactive Learning Media Based on Discovery Learning has been proven to be valid, practical, and effective for use in mathematics learning, particularly in Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) for eighth-grade students at SMP Islam Al-Ulum Terpadu Medan. This media is expected to serve as an innovative alternative for improving the quality of mathematics learning and can be implemented more widely in various schools to support technology-based learning.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of the Problem Posing learning model and students' attitudes towards mathematics on the critical thinking skills of grade VIII students of SMPN 6 Percut Sei Tuan. Using a quasi-experimental approach with two groups, the experimental group taught using the Problem Posing model and the control group taught using regular learning, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Problem Posing in developing critical thinking skills. Data was collected through critical thinking skills tests (pretest and posttest) and mathematical attitude questionnaires during the odd semester of the 2024/2025 school year. The results of the two-track ANOVA analysis with a significance level of 0.05 showed that the Problem Posing learning model had a significant influence on students' critical thinking skills (F=28.789; sig.=0.000<0.05). Furthermore, students' attitudes towards mathematics which were categorized as high, medium, and low were also proven to have a significant effect on critical thinking skills (F=6.769; sig.=0.000<0.05). However, this study did not find any interaction between the Problem Posing learning model and students' attitudes in influencing critical thinking skills (F=0.658; sig.=0.532>0.05), which indicates that these two variables contribute to influence independently without moderation effects. These findings suggest that the Problem Posing model can effectively improve students' critical thinking skills regardless of their attitude towards mathematics, while a positive attitude towards mathematics in general contributes to better critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on the problem solving ability and mathematical disposition of grade X students of the Private Aviation Vocational School of Berayan Island Darat Medan. Using a quasi-experimental approach with two groups, namely the experimental group taught using the PBL model and the control group taught using conventional learning, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of PBL in improving students' problem solving skills and mathematical disposition. Data was collected through problem solving ability tests (pretest and posttest) and mathematical disposition questionnaires during the even semester of the 2024/2025 school year. The results of the two-track ANOVA analysis with a significance level of 0.05 showed that the PBL learning model had a significant influence on students' problem solving ability (F=13,669; sig.=0.000<0.05). In addition, the mathematical disposition of students was also significantly influenced by the PBL model (F=17.041; sig.=0.000<0.05). However, this study did not find any interaction between the PBL learning model and mathematical early ability (KAM) in influencing problem solving ability (F=2.114; sig.=0.131>0.05) or students' mathematical disposition (F=0.454; sig.=0.637>0.05). This indicates that the PBL model exerts influence independently without being influenced by the student's KAM. These findings suggest that PBL models can effectively improve students' problem solving abilities and mathematical dispositions, regardless of their initial ability level, as well as provide a more engaging and meaningful learning experience in mathematics learning.

Abstract

Effective mathematics learning plays an important role in improving the quality of education and human resources. However, many students have difficulty understanding mathematical concepts, especially in mathematical problem solving and learning independence. This study aims to analyze the influence of realistic mathematics learning models on the mathematical problem solving ability and learning independence of grade VIII students at MTs PAB 2 Sampali Medan. The research method used is quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consists of two classes, namely an experimental class that uses a realistic mathematics learning model and a control class that uses conventional methods.  Data analysis using two-track ANAVA shows that the realistic mathematics learning model has a significant influence on improving students' mathematical problem solving ability (sig. = 0.034 < 0.05) and students' learning independence (sig. = 0.000 < 0.05). However, the results of the study also showed that there was no interaction between the learning model and students' initial mathematical ability on problem solving ability (sig. = 0.627 > 0.05) or on students' learning independence (sig. = 0.994 > 0.05).   These findings indicate that the realistic mathematics learning model is effective in improving students' problem solving ability and learning independence without being affected by their initial ability level. By connecting mathematical concepts with real-life experiences, this model can help students better understand the material and become more independent in learning. Therefore, a realistic mathematics learning model is recommended as a strategy in improving the quality of mathematics learning in schools.
