Abstract

21st century mathematics education has made use of science and technology while maintaining the philosophy of mathematics from an ethical and epistemological standpoint. This paper examines the goals of the philosophy of mathematics from an epistemological and ethical perspective. It also investigates the relationship between these perspectives and the practice of studying mathematics in the twenty-first century. This article was written using the Publish or Perish software and a systematic literature review approach. 41 initial articles were found by inputting keywords. Following review, fifteen articles were found to be in agreement. This study reveals that the goal of mathematics philosophy is to understand truth, meaning, certainty, and the nature and sources of mathematical knowledge, as well as how to interpret mathematics, from an epistemological perspective. Analyze and reflect on the ethical implications of mathematical practices. Its epistemological application in 21st century learning practices guides the way concepts are positioned, logical arguments are made, and mathematical problems are solved. Next, ethical considerations include maintaining student privacy, establishing learning agreements in every class, and avoiding creating group distinctions. by utilizing an interactive, student-centered learning paradigm like PBL, inquiry, contextual learning, use of technology, STEM, and others. Such behaviors will subsequently cultivate the values of critical, communicative, creative, and cooperative character. Therefore, we must uphold the fundamentals of learning in the 21st century, both in terms of epistemology and ethics.

Abstract

Effective mathematics learning plays an important role in improving the quality of education and human resources. However, many students have difficulty understanding mathematical concepts, especially in mathematical problem solving and learning independence. This study aims to analyze the influence of realistic mathematics learning models on the mathematical problem solving ability and learning independence of grade VIII students at MTs PAB 2 Sampali Medan. The research method used is quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consists of two classes, namely an experimental class that uses a realistic mathematics learning model and a control class that uses conventional methods.  Data analysis using two-track ANAVA shows that the realistic mathematics learning model has a significant influence on improving students' mathematical problem solving ability (sig. = 0.034 < 0.05) and students' learning independence (sig. = 0.000 < 0.05). However, the results of the study also showed that there was no interaction between the learning model and students' initial mathematical ability on problem solving ability (sig. = 0.627 > 0.05) or on students' learning independence (sig. = 0.994 > 0.05).   These findings indicate that the realistic mathematics learning model is effective in improving students' problem solving ability and learning independence without being affected by their initial ability level. By connecting mathematical concepts with real-life experiences, this model can help students better understand the material and become more independent in learning. Therefore, a realistic mathematics learning model is recommended as a strategy in improving the quality of mathematics learning in schools.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model with the help of diagram magnet board media (Panetagram). This research is motivated by the low student learning outcomes in mathematics subjects caused by the lack of variety in learning methods. The uniqueness of this research lies in the integration of the Problem Based Learning model with the magnetic board diagram (panetagram) media in collaborative mathematics learning. This research is important to provide contextual solutions to the problem of low learning outcomes at the elementary school level, as well as contribute to the development of active and collaborative learning models. This research was conducted at the partner school during the implementation of PPL II, namely at SD Negeri 3 Sokanegara. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (PTK). Data collection methods used test techniques (evaluation questions), non-test techniques (teacher activity observation sheets and student activity observation sheets), and documentation. The research subjects were fourth grade students of SD Negeri 3 Sokanegara with a total of 30 students. The results showed an increase in students' math learning outcomes which can be seen from the results of the average score in cycle I 71.33 with a completion percentage of 53%. Math learning outcomes in cycle II obtained an average score of 87 with a completion percentage of 70%. The learning outcomes of cycle III obtained an average score of 98.67 with a percentage of 100% completeness with very good criteria. The results showed that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model assisted by the magnet board diagram (panetagram) media was very effective in improving the learning outcomes of mathematics class IV SD Negeri 3 Sokanegara in 2024/2025.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the most significant public health challenges in Indonesia, particularly in North Sumatra Province, which records a relatively high prevalence rate. e–Exposed–Infectious–Recovered) A framework to analyze TB's transmission dynamics and evaluate vaccination's effectiveness as an intervention strategy. The primary objective of this research is to estimate the minimum vaccination coverage required to eliminate TB from the population. The model was built by incorporating vaccination rate parameters into the SEIR mathematical model and applied using regional epidemiological data obtained from the North Sumatra Central Bureau of Statistics. A deterministic approach is employed to simulate the system and derive the basic reproduction number ( ), which serves as an indicator of disease persistence across various levels of vaccination coverage. The results of numerical simulations performed using 4th-Order Runge Kutta indicate the existence of a critical vaccination threshold required to reduce below the one-condition that theoretically represents the possibility of disease elimination from the population. These findings provide a quantitative basis for formulating more targeted, data-driven vaccination policies. Calculations based on real-world data reveal that the current R₀ value in North Sumatra remains above one ( ), suggesting that TB continues to pose a risk of remaining endemic. Simulations were also conducted by varying the vaccination coverage while assuming a constant transmission rate, indicating that a minimum of 87.5% vaccination coverage is required to suppress R₀ below the critical threshold. This study underscores the importance of employing mathematical modeling as a decision-support tool in public health policy. The findings deepen the understanding of TB transmission dynamics and offer a robust quantitative foundation for setting vaccination targets for disease elimination in endemic areas such as North Sumatra.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to study the correlation of mathematical philosophy with cultural-based learning models. The method of research used is the method of library research, i.e. conducting studies related to mathematical philosophy, philosophical mathematics learning, culture-based mathematic learning, the connection of mathematically philosopher with ethnomatematics, the relationship of mathematic philosophies with cultural-based learning models. The results of the research have been obtained that the philosofy of maths, the model of learning based on culture, and ethnomathematics have close connections in the context of understanding and teaching of Mathematics. Mathematical philosophy deals with the foundations of mathematical epistemology and ontology, while a culture-based learning model emphasizes the integration of values and cultural contexts in mathematics learning. Ethnomatematics refers to the study of mathematical ways of thinking in a particular culture. By understanding the cultures, traditions, and world views of a particular society, ethnomathematics can help develop more culturally relevant and meaningful learning models. Therefore, the interrelationship between mathematical philosophy, culture-based learning models, and ethnomathematics can create a more holistic and contextual approach to mathematics learning.
