Abstract

Bamboo is used as raw material wicker and crafts are emerging as a new solution for use as new materials that are more environmentally friendly and have better mechanical strength. Research by utilizing bamboo as reinforcement fibers and polyester resin matrix aims to determine the mechanical strength of the resulting composite merging the two. Bamboo fiber composites made with various volume fractions of 10%, 15% and 20% using polyester resin and catalyst MEKPO ratio 100:1. The composite is prepared by hand lay-up by using a glass as a mold. Bamboo fibers used as reinforcement composites, is expected to increase the tensile strength and creep strength of each variation. In addition to observing the microstructure using SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) to determine the failure mechanisms that occur on the fracture surface.From this study the authors concluded that bamboo fiber composites have the potential for further development because the tensile test results are directly proportional to the addition of fiber to the highest tensile strength was 86.01 MPa at 20% volume fraction, whereas the average creep testing best time of 529.63 seconds on 10% volume fraction, the failure mechanism of the plates shown in SEM is a form of fiber breaking, pull out and de bonding.Keywords : Creep, komposit polyester, bamboo

Abstract

The influence of static contact angle on the spreading of droplet on a heated solid surface has been studied experimentally. Static contact angle was important parameter which influenced the impact behavior and heat transfer during the interaction of droplet and solid surface. Droplet substance was destilated water with initial diameter of 2.5 mm and solid surface material was stainless steel. Impact energy was expressed in Weber number, they were 52.1 and 57.7. Solid surface temperature was varied from 60−285°C to cover the heat transfer regimes, they were single-phase liquid, nucleate boiling, transition boiling, and film boiling. Static contact angle were 0°, 35.04°, and 85.72°.           As result, it was known that static contact angle has influence on spread characteristic after droplet impacting solid surface. Spreading factor increases due to the decrease of static contact angle. Evaporation time decreases due to the decrease of static contact angle.Keywords: droplet, impact, spreading, static contact angle

Abstract

Electrical energy has become a part of our lives. Even, for some people has become the primary requirement that can’t be eliminated. This can affect the sources of energy used in the process of power generation. Therefore, the presence sources of renewable energy is needed to increase the energy supply for the community. In this case, authors tried to do some research to harness the flow of water in the PDAM Way Sekampung pipe as micro hydro power plant (MHP) The advantage of making the MHP's pipeline PDAM isn’t need for the manufacture of civilian buildings by making MHP is only by utilizing the existing water flow in a pipeline, so the production cost can be reduced. Moreover, can give an idea on the PDAM and the public that the pipeline PDAM that had been used only as a water distribution, can be used as power plant. The purpose of this study was to determine the discharge and head PDAM pipelines and then dimensional turbine design based on the potential obtained. The survey was conducted to obtain primary data and secondary data. The primary data is data acquired directly, while secondary data is the data obtained from documents stored on PDAM Way Sekampung. From the research, discharge obtained an average of 46.287 L/s in normal conditions, and have the water level (head) of 5,998 m from the location of the turbine. The potential of the PDAM Way Sekampung, can generate power of 2,057 Kw. Results dimensional turbine design based on primary data or the direct retrieval, turbine shaft diameter 20 mm, 239 mm runner diameter, blade length 212 mm, a thickness of blade 1 mm and blade number 20.Keywords: Energy, Potential, Micro hydro, cross-flow turbine

Abstract

Heat pump atau pompa kalor merupakan suatu alat yang bisa mendinginkan dan memanaskan, dimana fungsi evaporator sebagai pendinginan bisa diubah menjadi pemanasan sebagai fungsi kondensor dengan menggunakan reversing valve. Dengan menambahkan heat exchanger pada heat pumpyang dipasang pada suction line dan discharge line akan menghasilkan perubahan temperatur pada suction line lebih tinggi dan temperatur discharge line lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan sistem heat pump yang tidak menggunakan heat exchanger. Heat pump ini menggunakan refrijeran jenis hidrokarbon yang ramah terhadap lingkungan  yaitu jenis refrijeran R-290. Dari hasil penelitian yang didapat bahwa nilai Coefficient Of Performance(COP) pada heat pump yang menggunakan heat exchanger adalah 4,8 sedangkan COP pada heat pumpyang tidak menggunakan heat exchanger sebesar 4,1.Sehingga selisih COP pada heat pump antara yang menggunakan heat exchanger dengan tanpa menggunakan heat exchangersebesar 0,7. Sedangkan efisiensi yang didapat pada heat pumpdengan menggunakan heat exchanger tertinggi sebesar 90,3% sedangkan tanpa menggunakan heat exchanger tertinggi sebesar 78,95%.Kata kunci : Penukar Kalor, Pompa Kalor, COP, Hidrokarbon, R-290

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendapatkan model pemprediksian performansi aerodinamika dari turbin angin Darrieus dengan metode multiple streamtube, memvalidasi model yang didapat dengan model yang sudah ada, dan menggunakan model hasil validasi untuk memprediksi dan menghasilkan data baru untuk turbin dengan skala, ukuran, bentuk, jenis sudu, kecepatan angin  yang berbeda. Dua bentuk sudu rotor turbin juga diadopsi dan dua kumpulan data dari dua jenis sudu yang berbeda dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk melihat seberapa besar perbedaan hasilnya. Torsi dan koefisien daya yang dibangkitkan meningkat seiring penurunan koefisien drag yang merupakan fungsi dari bilangan Reynold. Sudu jenis NACA 0012 jauh lebih baik perfomansinya bila dilihat dari koefisien dayanya.

Abstract

ABSTRAKKorosi merupakan salah satu penyebab penurunan mutu dari material logam, dengan proses degradasi/deteorisasi. Beberapa kondisi lingkungan yang dapat mempercepat terjadinya karat pada material logam diantaranya air laut. Air laut mengandung NaCl yang dapat mempercepat terjadinya karat.Pengujian dilakukan dengan mempersiapkan specimen yang telah diukur dan ditimbang terlebih dahulu dan akan di celup dan diuap dalam larutan Air Laut, NaCl 10%, NaCl 20% dan NaCl 30%. Ada 8 spesimen di lakukan pengelasan SMAW  dengan arus las 80 A dan 8 spesimen yang tidak dilakukan pengelasan Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai laju korosi yang tertinggi terdapat pada specimen yang dilakukan pengelasan SMAW dan diuap diatas permukaan larutan NaCl 20% dengan nilai laju korosi 0,002066 MPY.Kata Kunci: Korosi, Baja A36, Pengelasan SMAWABSTRACTCorrosion is one of the causes of deterioration of a metal material, the process of degradation / deteorisation. Some environmental conditions can accelerate the corrosion of metal materials such as sea water. Sea water containing NaCl can accelerate the corrosion. Testing done by preparing specimens that have been measured and weighed in advance and will be dyed and steamed in a water solution of the Sea, 10% NaCl, NaCl 20% and 30% NaCl. There are eight specimens in doing welding with SMAW welding current 80 A and 8 specimens that did not do the welding results showed that the corrosion rate of the highest value found in SMAW welding specimens made and steamed above the 20% NaCl solution with the corrosion rate of 0.002066 MPY.Keywords: Corrosion , Metal A36, welding SMAW

Abstract

The Savonius Wind Turbine is a drag type vertical axis wind turbine, and it operates by cupping and dragging the wind, causing the rotor to turn and generate electricity. The Savonius Wind Turbine usually has about two or three scoops or cups to catch the wind. The design allows the turbine to rotate relatively slowly, however, there is a high torque yielded from the rotation.On this research, the wind turbine Savonius type-U is designed using Matlab 7.0 with the design process starts from the needs of electrical power 100 watts and 12 volt electrical voltage and wind speed 8 m/s so obtained what is the magnitude and width of the radius of the wind turbineKeywords: wind, turbine, electrical power.

Abstract

Pada mobil bak terbuka berkapasitas 750 kg PT. XXX, pelindung bagian bawah bak muatan (lower guard frame) mengalami perubahan desain. Target yang diharapkan adalah mempunyai performa mendekati atau minimal sama dengan performa lower guard frame pada desain sebelumnya. Pada hasil pembebanan vertikal atau tekan menggunakan FAE, selisih displacement antara current model dan new model mencapai 7.7 mm. Berdasarkan pembebanan yang dilakukan, desain baru tersebut belum mencapai performa yang ditargetkan. Pembanan standar yang terlalu besar yaitu 9670 N yang berarti sebesar 986 kg untuk vertical force, sedangkan kapasitas muatan mobil hanya mencapai 750 kg. Analisis dilakukan terhadap hasil pengujian aktual dan pembebanan metode FEA dengan beban aktual sebesar 2000 N untuk horizontal dan vertical force, sesuai data yang didapatkan pada pemakaian lower guard frame di Indonesia. Dari hasil pembebanan FEA 2000 N didapatkan new design mempunyai performa lebih baik dengan perbandingan 33% hingga 78%. Sedangkan dari grafik pengujian aktual beban 2000 N, didapatkan lower guard frame masih berada dalam batas elastis material sehingga memungkinkan lower guard frame untuk kembali pada bentuk semula setelah mengalami deformasi. Untuk performa dari pengujian aktual dapat mengkonfirmasi pembebanan FEA dengan hasil new design 53% hingga 90% lebih baik dari current design.

Abstract

Motorcycle modification has been done many times to new motorcycles, such as motorcycle 125cc that was first released in 2004 and old motorcycles, such as motorcycle 100cc that was first released in 1997. motorcycle 100cc with engine base 100cc is very popular in the market. But, there are many weaknesses, for example: the performance and the fuel efficiency of motorcycle 100cc are lower than of Honda Supra X 125cc.There are several techniques to increase the acceleration and power of a motorcycle. One of them is increasing the volume of the cylinder capacity and increasing the compresion ratio. But the impacts which were resulted in the proccess of modofication, suck as the increase in fuel consumption and the decrease in the motorcycle lifetime.In this research, the researcher modified the cylinder capacity on motorcycle 100cc in to the same capacity as motorcycle 125cc by using cylinder block cylinder, cylinder head, crankshaft and tensioner from motorcycle 125cc. And then it was tested by as: testing of fuel consumption in stationary condition, testing of fuel comsumption in tandem and without tandem, testing of acceleration, and testing of speed and machine maximum rotation.The result of the modification shows that the modification has decreased the fuel consumption up to 19.63% in the stationary condition; in the rotation at 1400 rpm and 4000 rpm. For fuel consumption testing, when there has tandem or not, the modification has decreased the fuel consumption up to 27.19%. In the acceleration test of 0-80 km/h, the modification has decreased time allocated to accelerate at 3.91 seconds or about 20.03%. In the acceleration test of 60-80 km/h, the modification has decreased time allocated to accelerate at about 37%. And in the testing of maximum speed and rotation, the result shows that the modification has increased the speed at about 3.7% and increased the maximum rotation at about 1.66% from the original condition of motorcycle 100cc.Keywords: Modified, efficiency of the engine, the fuel efficiency.
