Abstract

Background: High rates of tooth extraction in Banjarbaru district without denture can reduce the esthetics and mastication function that affects the intake of nutrients, general health condition and quality of life. Purpose: The aim of this study is to know the factors that influnce demand for dentures on olderly of Tresna Werdha Budi Sejahtera Social Home in Banjarbaru. Methods: This is an observational analytic research with cross sectional design consist of 100 elderly with aged 60 years and over according to inclusion and exclusion category. Subjects ware asked to answer a questionnaire about demand denture and the factors that influence it. Data analysis using Chi Square and proceed with Contingency Coefficient. Results: Data analysis using Chi Square and proceed with Contingency Coefficient testshowed that the treatment cost factor have a significant association with denture demand (p<0.05) is equal (p = 0,014). Treatment cost was showed to be the most responsibility factor to anxiety factor and means for demand denture (C = 0.238). Conclusion: This research concludes that the most inhibiting demand denture factor in elderly of Tresna Werdha Budi Sejahtera Social Home in Banjarbaru is the cost of the treatment and manufacturing the denture are expensive.

Abstract

Background. The content of the coffee beans that are antioxidants have good potential, particularly against cancers of the oral cavity. Polyphenols in coffee beans 5% together the other ingredients in the diet, such as vitamin C, vitamin E and carotenoids, can protect the body's tissues against oxidative stress. Antioxidants can prevent a variety of diseases associated with oxidative stress, such as cancer. Objective. Research to determine the expression of GSH on monocytes were exposed to coffee beans and DMBA in vitro. Research Methods. Monocytes aspirated, added RPMI, resuspension with M 199, penstrep, fungisone. Superimposed on a cell culture plate that was given coverslip, added M 199, incubation. Add RPMI, incubation, discard lymphocytes, washing with RPMI. Add medium M 199, incubation. Cultures are washed, resuspension with M 199, treatments according to the research group. KO: Monocytes, K1: Coffee Monocytes + 10% + DMBA, K2: Coffee Monocytes + 5% + DMBA, K3: Monocytes + Coffee 10%, K4: Monocytes + coffee 5%, K5: Monocytes + DMBA. Immunocytochemistry for the analysis of GSH. Cells expressing GSH brown under a light microscope with a magnification of 400 times and counted on five visual fields. Research Result. Results of ANOVA analysis (p <0.01) showed that there were significant differences in all groups. Furthermore, the LSD test (p <0.05), the results are significant differences between all groups. Conclusion. Coffee beans can increase GSH expression on monocytes were exposed to DMBA.

Abstract

Overweight and obesity has become an epidemic in many developed and developing countries, and its prevalence is increasing globally. Overweight and obesity obesity are associated with many diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, some forms of cancer, type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic oral diseases. It is important for dentists to understand and recognize overweight and obesity, educate their patients on its associated risks, promote a healthy lifestyle for their patients, and modify any necessary dental treatments and postoperative procedures for overweight and obese patients.  A multidisciplinary approach of overweight and obesity is needed for optimal control. Professional dentist must be prepared to manage the overweight and obesity-related effects of co-morbidities and oral diseases and working in conjunction with other health care providers. However, the majority do not routinely measure weight and height, nor calculate body mass index for comprehensive care patients in their daily dental practice, thus the dentist role in overweight and obesity is rare. The purpose of this article is to review the assessment of overweight and obesity, the relevance of overweight and obesity to oral helath and dental practice, and highlight some of the actions dentist can to prevent and decrease the risk of both these diseases.

Abstract

Orthodontic appliance used to correct malocclusion which may include dental abnormalities, jaw relationship abnormalities, growth disorder of bone-forming facial or oral soft tissues disorder. Mechanical force of orthodontic appliance applied to suppress the teeth and periodontal tissue including gingiva, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. This process involves the alveolar bone remodeling. Orthodontic mechanical force will cause the periodontal area is divided into two areas: pressure and strain area. In the pressure area, mechanical force will stimulate osteoclasts to perform alveolar bone resorption. Whereas strain area, osteoblasts will perform new alveolar bone formation. Orthodontic tooth movement has three phases process. The phase is initial phase, lag phase and postlag phase. The third phase of tooth movement mechanism involving cellular and molecular reactions in the periodontal tissues.

Abstract

Prevalence of dental caries increase. An increase in prevalence of dental caries as a result increasing sugar consumption. This paper aims to review publish studies to khow if there was any evidence of dental caries and nutritional status of children. All paper relating to effect of dental caries and nutritional status were considered for conclution in this review. The primary focus of this paper is on dental caries problem related with nutritional status of children. Studies using cross-sectional approach. The lower index dental caries of children, so nutritional status will be getting better. Dental caries causes disruption of function of mastication that can affect nutritional intake and nutritional status.the conclusion was dental caries of children show significant relation with nutritional status.

Abstract

The purpose of orthodontic treatment is to correct dental malocclusion, which involved periodontal tissue remodeling process. Removable orthodontic appliance application was resulted a tipping tooth movement. Therefore, this research will develop a new orthodontic appliance design which is expected to generate closely to bodily tooth movement. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incisor tooth movement using a new orthodontic appliance design with different mechanical force applications. 28 Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups, a control group without orthodontic appliances (K), experimental group with 10 grams force (grf) of orthodontic appliances (P1), 20 grf (P2), and 30 grf (P3). Incisor distance measurement and roentgenogram evaluation were performed after seven days of orthodontic appliances application. The results of this study showed that the largest distance of incisor seen in P3 group and there is not a statistically significant difference between P1 and P2. Roentgenogram evaluation shows that all of orthodontic appliance force produced a bodily tooth movement.

Abstract

Environmental polution had many impact for health. Lead (Pb) had been found in the environmental like in the air, land and water. The source of the lead pollution were smoke of transportation, paint, pipes, waste and industries. Dental carries is tooth decay or breakdown the tooth bone. Lead (Pb) in the body was predicted causes the dental carries. The aim of the research is analysis the correlation between the lead (Pb) and dental carries from journals and literatures.  The result. Epidemiological study showed that lead (Pb) exposure increase the risk of dental carries. The animal research showed that lead (Pb) disturbing elements in the body. Lead (Pb) inhibits the calcium absorbtion which it was needed to form the tooth and saliva glands. So it increased the risk of dental carries. Blood lead level (BLL) increase the risk of dental carries. Conclution. The lead (Pb) Exposure increase the dental carries. The lead (Pb) pollutin in the environment should be controlled to protect the healthy tooth.
