Abstract

Mastication movement is interaction of some component, such as teeth, mastication musclary, and temporomandibular joint/ TMJ. TMJ is connective joint between mandible and maxilla. In its function, TMJ need teeth and musculary that worked integrally and sinergitic. Tooth missing case, especially in posterior region, can cause disordes in mastication movement, and finally it caused TMJ disorder.

Abstract

Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) is restoration material commonly used in dental practice. One of GIC strengths is its low level of microleakage. GIC is applied on the cavity with low mastication weight like Fuji® II, Fuji® VII (white), Fuji® VII ( pink). The aim of this study was to observe the microleakage level of cervical restoratin edge with Fuji® II, Fuji® VII ( white), and Fuji® VII ( pink). Each group contained of 6 samples of GIC filling of cervical third buccal surface , immersed in methylene blue solution, cut across linguo-buccal and subsequently observed on its edge microleakage using binoculer microscope indicated with the depth of methylene blue penetration. The result showed that edge microleakage from the lowest up to the highest were Fuji® VII pink, Fuji® VII white and Fuji® II. Anova statistical analysis showed no significant differences among the three groups.

Abstract

The shape and size of dental arch plays an important role in determining the space available for teeth. To avoid crowding the teeth it needs the space provided (available space) is sufficient for the permanent teeth grow. Measurement of available space on the discrepancies in the diagnosis of orthodontic models generally use the analysis Moyers and the analysis Nance. The research was carried out by casting the lower jaw in 30 subjects. The cast is then measured using a brass wire available space on the analysis of Nance and digital calipers on the analysis of Moyers. The data obtained were then conducted a t test with a significance of p <0.05 to determine differences in measurement results available space mandibular dental arch based on the analysis Moyers and the analysis Nance. The test results obtained by using t test p value of 0.563 (p> 0.05). The resulting value shows that the size of the available space in the mandibular dental arch analysis Moyers and analysis Nance showed no significant difference, so that the analysis can be used to measure the available space mandibular dental arch in the permanent dentition.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Dental caries in early-aged children still occurs frequently. One of its causes is the less dental hygiene, children are still incapable to maintain their oral and dental health independently. One of material to help in cleaning teeth is toothpaste. The choice of this material should be appropriate in order to obtain optimum dental hygiene and not result in negative impacts. The products available in the market generally claim themselves as the best one by showing their excellences e.g. brand, interesting package, low price, and quality. Those necessitate the customer especially parents to be selective in choosing appropriate toothpaste for their children. The choose of toothpaste should consider some aspects including the composition, development of child age, criteria required based on the age, product variant, and side effect. In conclusion, the criteria of the chosen toothpaste: should be base on safe package and interesting, colours, scent and taste liked by children.

Abstract

Introduction: The problem of bacterial resistance to antibiotics is a growing problem worldwide. Health center as a unit of local government health services are organized dental health services in the areas they use different types of antibiotics in improving public health. Purpose: discuss the administration of antibiotics in healthcenters. Results: The pattern of antibiotics has differences between health centers both in the amount and types of antibiotics. Conclusion: A wide range of variation of administration of antibiotics in health centers could occur because of differences in the availability, knowledge and creativity dentist dentist in the clinic

Abstract

Complex bridge is a fixed denture that replaces missing teeth with the activities of different functions. Complex bridge design can use porcelain fused to metal restorations that combines the power, accuracy and appropriateness of the placement with the aesthetic effect of ceramic crowns. This design can improve aesthetic and mastication functions. The aim of this case report paper was to explain the management of treatment of a complex bridge could improve an aesthetic and mastication functions on case of improving teeth restoration. The case study was carried out on a 23 year old male patient. He hasn’t self confidence because he had teeth with old restoration an missing teeth in posterior. He needed fixed denture to improve his aesthetic and functional performance. A complex bridge were designed to improving teeth and replace the posterior maxillary teeth in 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 21, 23, 24, 25. In conclusion, the complex bridge is superior treatment can improve aesthetic and functional performance .

Abstract

Orthodontic appliance used to correct malocclusion which may include dental abnormalities, jaw relationship abnormalities, growth disorder of bone-forming facial or oral soft tissues disorder. Mechanical force of orthodontic appliance applied to suppress the teeth and periodontal tissue including gingiva, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. This process involves the alveolar bone remodeling. Orthodontic mechanical force will cause the periodontal area is divided into two areas: pressure and strain area. In the pressure area, mechanical force will stimulate osteoclasts to perform alveolar bone resorption. Whereas strain area, osteoblasts will perform new alveolar bone formation. Orthodontic tooth movement has three phases process. The phase is initial phase, lag phase and postlag phase. The third phase of tooth movement mechanism involving cellular and molecular reactions in the periodontal tissues.

Abstract

Dental health problem in Indonesia is interesting to be studied since it reaches 80% of population. This study was conducted on the elementary school students in the working area of Kaliwates and Wuluhan Public Health Centers in Jember Regency in 2008 aiming at knowing the relations between dental caries and age as well asgender. The result showed that gender was not related to students’ dental caries, while age showed relation to the students’ dental caries.

Abstract

Remineralization is a natural repair process for caries lesions. It is now well-accepted that the primary modes of action of fluoride are enhancement of remineralization, inhibition of demineralization, and inhibition of plaque bacteria, with remineralization being the most important. This study to aimed to understanding the role of remineralization methods to alter mineral balance on management of non-invasive dental caries. Calcium and phosphate delivery can be enhanced to improve remineralization, especially in persons with reduced salivary function. There is a great need for improved and novel remineralization methods to alter the caries balance for the better, especially in individuals with a high cariogenic bacterial challenge. There was also influence of fluoride and carbonate on the remineralization process. Dentinal tubules were occluded by apatite crystallites is a feature also shared by transparent dentin beneath caries lesions and age-induced transparent dentin. It is based on unstabilized amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP), where a calcium salt and a phosphate salt are delivered intra-orally or delivered in a product with a low water activity. As the salts mix with saliva, they dissolve, releasing calcium and phosphate ions. The mixing of calcium ions with phosphate ions to produce an ion activity product for amorphous calcium phosphate that exceeds its solubility product results in the immediate precipitation of ACP or, in the presence of fluoride ions, amorphous calcium fluoride phosphate (ACFP). In the intra-oral en vironment, these phases (ACP and ACFP) are potentially very unstable and may rapidly transform into a more thermodynamically stable, crystalline phase (e.g., hydroxyapatite and fluorhydroxyapatite). However, before phase transformation, calcium and phosphate ions should be transiently bioavailable to promote enamel subsurface lesion remineralization.
