Abstract

Scabies is an infectious skin disease caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei. This mite infestations not only cause skin damage, but can develop into local, even systemic skin infections. Therefore, instruments are needed that help early detection of scabies, especially through diagnosis in communities such as Islamic boarding schools. This study aimed to analyze the reliability of the scabies detection form (DESKAB) between Madrasah Aliyah female student rater and dermatovenerologist rater. Based on the results of the examination and Cohen's kappa test, a coefficient of 0.84 was obtained, which means that the level of reliability of the DESKAB form is strong, and a p value of 0.019 means that there is agreement in the perception of the diagnosis of scabies by the two raters. The DESKAB form can be recommended as an early detection instrument for non-medical personnel before being confirmed by medical personnel Keywords: DESKAB; diagnosis; non-medic; scabies

Abstract

Aedes aegypti is the vector that carries Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). Various strategies have been implemented to control the spread of the Aedes aegypti, one of which is using temephos larvicide. The use of temephos causes Aedes aegypti resistance and environmental pollution. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a bio-larvicide using ceremai leaf (Phyllanthus acidus) and zodia leaf (Evodia suaveolens). This study aimed to determine the toxicity of ceremai leaf and zodia leaf extracts on the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae. This type of research is a pure experiment using a Completely Randomized Design. The research sample was third instar Aedes aegypti larvae. There were 7 groups consisting of 1 negative control (aquadest and tween20), 1 positive control (temephos 0.008%) and 5 treatment groups (ceremai leaf extract and zodia leaf extract). Larval mortality data were observed after 24 hours of exposure. The results of the Kruskal Wallis test showed that there was a difference in mortality between groups with a value of p : 0.020 (p < 0.05). Zodia leaf extract at 0.2% has the highest toxicity to the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae. The probit test results of zodia leaf extract showed LC50 and LC90 values of 0.075% and 0.121% within 24 hours of exposure. Zodia leaf ethanol extract has effectiveness as larvicide of Aedes aegypti. Abstract

Peritonitis is a life-threatening condition with a mortality rate according to WHO of 5.9 million per year. We report the case of an elderly man who complained of severe pain in the entire abdominal region and the results of a plain abdominal radiograph showed peritonitis and obstructive ileus. Exploratory laparotomy and ileal resection were performed, and multiple ileal perforations, 120 cm of necrotic ileum and grade IV adhesions were found. There was post-surgical complications of sepsis and the patient died on the seventh post-operative day. Histopathological examination shows images that was not contributory to the diagnosis. There were no features of malignancy or tendency to a specific infection. Non-specific small bowel perforation can be considered as the etiology of peritonitis because there are no specific pathopneumonic characteristics. Diagnostic and management of surgical emergencies plays a very important role in patient prognosis. Keywords: generalized peritonitis;small bowel perforation;obstructive ileus.

Abstract

Dementia refers to impairment in more than one domain of cognitive function. The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer's dementia (AD). AD is associated with the influence of amyloid, oxidative stress, as well as abnormal phosphorylation of the protein Tau which forms neurofibrillary plaques in neurons. Clinical symptoms include progressive memory impairment for current events, cognitive impairment, general confusion, agitation, delusions, social disinhibition, and paranoia. A 68 year old man complained of rapid forgetfulness and decreased cognitive function accompanied by insomnia. Acupuncture manual therapy was performed at points GB20, LI4, HT7, KI3 bilaterally and EX-HN1, EX-HN3, GV20, CV9, CV4, CV3. Combine with scalp acupuncture Zhu Scalp Head and Face, as well as bilateral anterior hypothalamus and master cerebral ear points. Electroacupuncture 2 Hz continuous wave electroacupuncture at points ST25-ST28, CV12-CV6, and ST36-SP6. Therapy is carried out 2 times a week. Evaluation using MMSE ad PSQI. After 10 treatments, there was improvement in clinical symptoms, MMSE and PSQI scores. Manual acupuncture and electroacupuncture, a combination of body points, scalp and ear microcupuncture are useful in the management of Alzheimer's dementia accompanied by insomnia as non-pharmacological adjuvant therapy with positive results. Abstract

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a neuromuscular disease characterized by tingling, pain and sensory disturbances in the palms and fingers due to compression of the median nerve which is in the carpal tunnel. One of the risk factors for CTS is that repetaed wrist flexion-extension movements over a long period of time can trigger mechanical trauma or ischemia to the median nerve. Rujak seller is one of the jobs that is at risk of experiencing CTS. This research was conducted to determine the relationship between duration and frequency of work and symptoms and severity of CTS in rujak sellers in Glenmore District, Banyuwangi Regency. This cross-sectional analytical observational study was conducted from April to June 2024 and involved 59 respondents. Data was collected through interviews using questionnaires on work duration, work frequency, CTS symptoms and the Indonesian version of the Boston Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Questionnaire (BCTQ). The results of the Spearman analysis show a significant relationship between work duration and CTS symptoms (p=0.005) with a correlation coefficient of 0.361. The results of data analysis also show a significant relationship between work frequency and CTS symptoms (p=0.000) with a correlation coefficient of 0.595. This research concluded that the duration and frequency of work had a significant positive relationship with the symptoms and severity of CTS. The longer the duration of work and the more frequent the frequency of work, it can increase the risk of CTS and increase the severity of CTS.
