Abstract

Understanding the content of a reading is an important aspect of reading activities. Understanding the content means the reader has successfully received information from the reading. However, in reality, many people have difficulty understanding the content of the reading, which was also found by researchers when conducting pre-research activities at SDN Harjosari Lor 03 Tegal Regency. Departing from this problem, researchers conducted a type of development research, or Research and Development (R&D), which focused on products in the form of learning media. The learning media product developed in this study was educational pocket comic media (komikusi). The development model used in this study is the ADDIE development model, which includes five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. This research aims to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of the media products developed to improve the reading comprehension skills of class IV B students at SDN Harjosari Lor 03, Tegal Regency. Abstract

The low learning outcomes of the Indonesian language and the ability to think critically and argumentatively of elementary school students are problems that are still not handled optimally in learning practices. One of the factors causing this is the use of learning media that is less varied, not contextual, and has not utilized digital technology to the fullest. This study aims to develop and test the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of Canva-based E-Book Learning Stories (E-Boci) media as an innovative solution in improving Indonesian language learning outcomes in elementary schools. The method used is research and development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which includes needs analysis, product design, expert validation, limited trials, and revision. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, documentation, as well as pretest and posttest of fourth-grade students in two elementary schools. The results showed that E-Boci was considered very feasible by material and media experts, practical in use by teachers and students, and effective in improving learning outcomes, especially in the aspects of critical thinking and the ability to formulate arguments. This media is proven to be able to encourage students' active involvement in learning and create more dialogic classroom interactions. This research provides theoretical contributions in the development of digital story-based media and practical contributions in providing teaching media that are innovative, accessible, and in accordance with the Merdeka Curriculum. E-Boci is recommended as an alternative learning medium that can be widely adapted in elementary schools.

Abstract

Education plays a crucial role in shaping the nation future, especially in the literacy and numeracy skills development among elementary school students. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education is the occurrence of learning loss and the decline in the quality of students' literacy skills. Online learning causes learners to lack opportunities to interact with reading materials and practice their literacy skills effectively. This study aims to describe the design, implementation, and effectiveness of learning to understand narrative text information through local wisdom-based teaching materials assisted by a Classroom Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) instrument at SD Negeri 2 Banglarangan. The mixed method (qualitative and quantitative) with the sequential exploratory model involves observation, interviews, and quantitative data analysis through tests. The results showed that the learning design used teaching materials based on the local wisdom of Widuri Beach with the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model and the Class AKM assessment instrument. Learning can create an active and interactive learning atmosphere through group discussions. The effectiveness of learning can be seen from the improvement of students' post-test results with an increase in the average score of 22.5% from 66 to 88.5, as well as an increase in students' critical reasoning attitudes and independence. In conclusion, the integration of local wisdom in learning through the CIRC model with the Class AKM instrument effectively improves the ability to understand narrative text information, creates contextual and meaningful learning, and develops critical reasoning attitudes and independence of fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 2 Banglarangan, Ampelgading District, Pemalang Regency.

Abstract

Implementing the Merdeka Curriculum provides learning services according to students' ability levels, and all students have the right to grade. This impacts the insecurity of reading literacy in advanced-class students. Students who have advanced to advanced classes (III, IV, V, and VI) find that not all students can read. Based on the results of the initial test at SDN Gisikdrono 2 from a total of 260 students, data obtained from 52 advanced class students (20%) who entered Phase A, students who could not read (27 people), and entered Phase B, not reading fluently (25 people). The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of the TaRL approach assisted by Pelita leveling e-books and to describe the effectiveness of the TaRL approach assisted by Pelita leveling e-books in improving students' reading skills at both levels. This research was conducted using a mixed method. The data sources were students, pre-service PPL students, class teachers, and parents. The results of applying the TaRL approach assisted by the Pelita E-book can be described as follows. Both teams were given habituation and development literacy treatment with a schedule according to the agreement with parents and schools. Team A was given reading guidance using the Pelita Phase A E-book, and Team B was given reading guidance using the Pelita Phase B E-book. The handling of reading literacy insecurity was carried out for two months. It was found that the success rate of reading assessment (four indicators) reached 96.15% (50 students). Only two students could not read and were predicted to need special mentoring.

Abstract

Writing skills are one of the important aspects in Indonesian language learning that significantly contribute to developing students' critical, logical, and creative thinking skills. However, students often perceive learning to write as problematic and boring, so their motivation and engagement in the learning process tend to be low. Therefore, an innovative approach is needed to overcome these challenges. This research aims to explore the implementation of hypnotherapy principles in learning to write Indonesian texts, particularly in the context of the Merdeka Curriculum. Hypnotaching is a teaching method that utilises techniques of positive suggestion, pacing, leading, modelling, relaxation, alpha state, and visualisation to increase students' motivation and engagement in the learning process. The method used in this research is a literature study. Various theoretical sources and previous research were analysed to identify how hypnotherapy techniques can be effectively applied in learning to write fiction and nonfiction. The results show that applying hypnotherapy principles can effectively support the objectives of the Merdeka Curriculum, which focuses on developing students' creativity and critical thinking skills in writing Indonesian texts. The application of Hypnotaching Techniques (such as positive suggestion, visualisation, and modelling) effectively supports the objectives of the Merdeka Curriculum, which focuses on developing students' creativity and critical thinking skills in writing texts. Thus, hypnoteaching principles can be an innovative and practical approach in learning writing in secondary schools, providing students with space to experiment, develop new ideas, and improve the overall quality of their writing.

Abstract

This research departs from the problem of low active participation of foreign learners in the interaction of Indonesian learning for Foreign Speakers (BIPA), especially those who are members of the Developing Countries Partnership (KNB) program. The verbal constraints they experience are not solely related to language skills, but also closely related to sociocultural, psychological, and pedagogical factors that affect their comfort in classroom interactions. This study aims to identify and describe the interaction obstacles faced by KNB foreign learners in BIPA learning and the factors that affect them as a whole. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques such as participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The research subjects consist of international students receiving KNB scholarships and participating in the BIPA program at one of the public universities in Indonesia. The data were analyzed thematically, emphasizing interaction patterns, verbal responses, and adaptation strategies used by learners in the learning context. The results show that the main obstacles in learning interactions come not only from the limitations of vocabulary and sentence structure, but also from the fear of making mistakes, lack of understanding of local communication norms, and lack of pedagogical support that is responsive to the learner's cultural background. These findings confirm the importance of developing BIPA learning strategies that are more inclusive, interactive, and based on intercultural awareness. This research provides theoretical and practical contributions to the development of BIPA teaching and opens up space for further studies in the realm of cross-cultural interaction in language education.

Abstract

Dangdut is one of Indonesia’s popular traditional music genres, rooted in Arabic, Malay, and Hindustani musical influences since the 1940s. Indonesia and South Korea share similarities in utilizing music for cultural promotion. Indonesia introduces its culture through dangdut music, while South Korea promotes its cultural identity through K-pop. K-pop is widely recognized among Indonesian youth, whereas dangdut remains relatively unknown in South Korea. Meanwhile, teaching Indonesian as a second language has developed significantly in South Korea, notably at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS). Introducing dangdut music in BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers) instruction offers a strategic potential that can be compared to K-pop as an instructional medium. This study aims to (1) explore the characteristics of dangdut and K-Pop suitable as learning materials for BIPA in South Korea; and (2) describe the implementation of cultural diplomacy through dangdut music in the BIPA program. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method with a case study design. Primary data were obtained through observations, questionnaires, and interviews involving students, instructors, and program coordinators of BIPA at HUFS. Secondary data were collected from program documents and relevant literature. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive analysis model. The findings indicate that: (1) the communicative and contextual nature of dangdut is suitable for BIPA instructional materials, and K-Pop’s popularity is leveraged to attract learner interest; and (2) the use of dangdut music in BIPA instruction serves as a form of cultural diplomacy that strengthens intercultural relations. This study contributes to facilitating South Korean learners in acquiring the Indonesian language and ultimately enhancing the achievement of cultural diplomacy between the two countries.

Abstract

The low reading literacy competency among Indonesian youth has raised concerns, highlighting the need for literacy development programs within organizations such as Nasyiatul Aisyiyah (NA), the female youth organisation of Muhammadiyah. This study aims to profile the reading literacy competency of NA members in Bogor Regency and explore ways to enhance their literacy practices. Using a mixed-method approach, both quantitative and qualitative data were gathered. A survey was distributed to NA members, covering demographic data, reading habits, reading proficiency, and access to reading resources. Additionally, in-depth interviews with organizational leaders were conducted. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data from interviews were examined through thematic analysis. The findings reveal that although many NA members have proficient reading skills, barriers such as inconsistent reading habits and limited access to quality materials persist. The study concludes that targeted literacy training programs aligned with the principles of Islam Berkemajuan (Progressive Islam) are essential to improving literacy skills while fostering religious values. These programs could enhance literacy outcomes for NA members and contribute to broader literacy efforts in Indonesia, forming the basis for a new training model tailored to NA’s needs.
