Abstract

It?s inevitable that the Koran will always be a reference (marja?) for Muslims in every thought and action, followed later by al-Sunnah in the second position, both as a reference in understanding the Koran or as independent sources in understanding and resolve specific cases. This fact has prompted the birth of various patterns of interpretation or comments of the scholars of Koran which continues to experience dynamic methodoligical growth, from tahlîlî, bi al-ma?thûr, adabî wa ijtimâ?î, sûfî, to the mawdû?î or thematic model. This article will discuss the intellect (al-?aql) within teh Koran perspective, namely effort to understand a thematic topic. Intellect (al-?aql) is one of debate topic among Muslims, especially among theologians or mutakallimîn against philosophers, who have not obtained a satisfactory intersection. This paper see

Abstract

This article attempts to reread passages of the Koran on human creation process; QS. al-Hajj [22]: 5, QS. Hûd [11]: 61, QS. al-Sajdah [32]: 7, QS. al-Saffât [37]: 11, QS. al-Rahmân [55]: 14 and others. The verses are read in order in accordance with the process of the creation of man. The recitation of this time directed at scientific interpretation. Therefore, some of the views of modern science such as medical and others taken into consideration and presented back in it. These readings provide information about the stage of evolution in human creation, not Darwin?s theory of evolution, but the evolution of embryonic, is called Darwinian evolution that occurs in the womb, not in the real world. Based on this it can also be known that man is not the off spring of other animals-which can be said to be lower than beings. This is because human beings as ?I? or ?nafs? is not limited to a combination of physical and spiritual, but also has a sense or qalb

Abstract

The Koran presents the topic of women in many verses and letters. But the most is in the letter al-Nisâ? so that he is often called al-Nisâ? al-Kubrâ. Although the Koran is the holy book of eternal truth, interpretation cannot be avoided as a relative. Historical development of various sect of kalâm, fiqh, and sufism is positive proof of the relativity of appreciation of religious Muslims. At one period, the levels of intellect into dominant, on the other period, the levels of emotionality become prominent. That is why the perception of women among Muslims, especially in self commentators, also varies from age to age the majority of Muslims are stuck with so many results ijtihâd of the scholars then regarded as a religion that cannot brain-tweaking and could not be bothered. But this fact does not actually like it. Therefore, this paper attempts to dismantle understanding of religious texts that have been used as legitimating for patriarchal mindset away from gender equality.

Abstract

This paper engages with the theological discourse on the state of al-Mahdi in Shi?i tradition and the Peaceful Kingdom of Christianity. It focuses on two particular narratives, Quranic one focusing on Shi?i tafsir Qur?an 24:55 and Biblical one concerning on Isaiah 11:1-19. This study employs library research looking specifically at Qur?anic and Biblical commentaries. By comparing the texts, it is found out that the first insists on several requirements to realize the promise of God (the state of al-Mahdî) by performing active struggles i.e. possessing strong faith and doing righteous action. On the other hand, the latter provides the description of the ideal circumstance when Messiah comes to a region in which both the ruler and the ruled do active struggles. The first still emphasizes the importance of strong faith while the second doesn?t. Yet, both narratives share that active struggles and righteous actions must be at stake.

Abstract

Motto that has always expressed is that the Koran was Sâlih li kull zamân wa makân, in the sense they do not just blindly accept what is revealed literally (as most commentators earlier), but try to understand by always trying to look at the context and meaning behind ayat- verses of the Koran. In other words, you want to search is the ?spirit? or the moral message of the Koran itself. Modern interpretations are always encouraged to fit the paper with the condition of the interpreter. Advances in science may be the main factor in the birth and raise their interpreter responds. This paper tries to describe the state of some modern interpretations evolve. At the end of this paper, the authors conclude that the modern interpretation dominited by philosophy studies of the Koran, Koran and natural history. As well as newspapers and actual problems of Muslim Dailu. The authors also conclude that interpretations may exist in the modern era, when it contains a strong meaning for Muslims everyday problems (practical interpretation), as well as concrete and objective support for the development of human knowledge (tafsîr ?ilmî).

Abstract

This research aims to elaborate the characteristics of the Qur?anic manuscript of Dolah Bakri (MADB) by using philology and historical analysis. In its chronicle history, it shows that MADB appeared in Wonolelo in the 19th century. The use of paper, the technique of writing, the layout and illumination show its character as a mushaf born with the nuances of Javanese locality. In addition, when his contemporaries used mixed rasm, ?Uthma}ni} and imla}?i}, MADB consistently used the rasm ?uthma}ni}. From the social context, in Wonolelo, MADB was not merely as a Qur?anic mushaf which is used as a medium of reading for local Muslim community, but it had social and economic function as well. MADB could be a symbol of an economic power of its owner. MADB could also be a symbol of the integration of Islamic movement and social class identity of economic society.

Abstract

A conversation about the sunnah is a long and ongoing discussion to the present. The central issue that continues is about the nature, status, and authority of the sunnah. This issue becomes so important because the position of the Prophet Muhammad as the messenger of Allah, so that his words and actions received by most Muslims as a source of religious authority and the second law after the Koran. Actually, the concept of the sunnah has evolved from time-to time. At the time of the Prophet Muhammad, sunnah is understood in an ideal form of behavior exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad who was always getting guidance from God throughout his life. At the time of the companions, this concept has been sustained and even further developed with the ijtihâd of the Companions, especially al-Khulafâ? al-Râshidûn that applied to society at that time. Discussing about sunnah, than, can not avoid discussions about hadith, because hadîthes are vehicles of the sunnah. At glance, the term sunnah and hadîth has same meaning, that is the tradition of the Prophetic tradition. This paper tries to highlight the development of the concept of the sunnah from the Prophet until the era of al-Shâfi?î.

Abstract

Abstract: This paper highlights the ideas on the meaning of religion within Quran: A Reformist Translation, a contemporary work that promotes a reformist paradigm of Quranic interpretation. On the methodological framework, their exegesis lies on the Qur?an alone, which means to let the Qur?anexplainstheir self within their logic and linguistic features. They refuse the hierarchical and epistemic authority of the clergy in interpreting the Qur?an. Further, they have also rejected the authority of hadis. With this theoretical framework, they do not interpret al-dînas religion, but as a system. They also do not interpret Islam as a proper name related to the religion of Muhammad, but as a mindset and action which lies on the system of peacemaking and peaceful surrendering. This kind of interpretation theoretically makes a shifting orientation of the verse which generally tends to theology, dogmatic, and exclusive become humanist, dialogue and inclusive. Abstract

This study starts from the fact that the Qur?anic interpretation based on ?adîth could not be separated from the ideology of the exegetes. With the primary sources of Tafsîr al-Jalâlayn, by Jalâl al-Dîn al-Mah}allî and Jalâl al-Dîn al-Suyût}î, and by focusing on two main themes: theft and adultery, this study finds that the strategy they undertaken includes several processes, first: selection, that is by choosing the ?adîth of the Prophet around the law of hand cut in the case of theft, and the law of exile and stoning in the case of adultery, as a reference of interpretation, while there are many other options such as found in the Qur?an, the opinion of the Prophet Companions and tabi?in. Second, reproduction, that is, by actually choosing the sunna as a reference of interpretation. Third, conclusion, that is by providing generalization of the issue. Thus, it seems to argue that it is the only existing sunna and it is the only one that should be understood. Yet, there are many other sunna in its complexities, and even they are contradicting each other. Fourth, the local transformation, which displays the sunna in such a way.
