Abstract

Purifi ed three isoform β-1,3-glucanases of 90 kDa β-1,3-glucanase-I, 75 kDa β-1,3-glucanase-II, and 64 kDa β-1,3-glucanase-III derived from Trichoderma reesei isolate T13were tested in vitro for its antifungal activity to the root fungi of Ganoderma philippii. Antifungal activity was tested by bioassay using a modifi ed cup plate method and microscopic observation to determine the presence of abnormal mycelia growth of G. philippii. The result showed that antifungal activity of those three isoform β-1 ,3-glucanase (β-1,3-glucanase-I, β-1,3 glucanase-II, and β-1,3-glucanase-III) in vitro could not form growth inhibition against the mycelia of G. philippii. Microscopic observation revealed that the enzyme caused necrotic lesion, whereas the combination of β-1,3-glucanase and chitinase from T. harzianum (Sigma) caused lyzed hyphae of G. philippii.

Abstract

The Bina Marga standard bridge has been implemented as bridge designing references in Indonesia. One of the standard bridge types is a composite bridge. This composite bridge is designed based on RSNI T-02-2005, an Indonesian bridge loading standard. This standard is based on Load and Resistance Factored Design (LRFD) method. LRFD method is treating statistical data on loads and strengths as random variables that have to be evaluated periodically using reliability index as the indicator. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the reliability of a 25 m simple span composite bridge structure due to statistical load data from weigh-in-motion (WIM) vehicular loads measurement in Pantura highway of Cikampek-Pamanukan, West Java in 2011 and RSNI T-02-2005 nominal vehicular load. The results of this research are maximum bending moment due to RSNI T-02-2005 nominal vehicular load is 526.55 kNm with a probability of exceedance of 4.5 x 10-7 and the reliability index of this composite bridge is 7.16, which is larger than reliability target of AASHTO of 3.50.

Abstract

Synthesis of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPA) by free radical polymerization has been carried out. NIPA monomer was polymerized by free radical polymerization with the initiator of ammonium persulfate (APS) and tetramethylethylenediamine (TEMED). The purpose was to obtain PNIPA for the base-material of therapeutic radiation source.  Visual observations indicated that the polymer solution showed different properties at 35ºC. FTIR spectrum showed that infrared absorption peaks of the synthesized polymer were almost the same as PNIPA reported before. Viscosity measurement showed that there was a change of viscosity at temperatures of 30–35ºC. Viscosity of the solution increased dramatically with the increase of concentration. The maximum concentration of the polymer solution for radiation source was 5%.

Abstract

Liberalization of trade in tourism services among ASEAN member countries has been conducted for almost 15 years. However, it is still unclear whether the phenomenon could significantly improve Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness. Through a mixed between literary research and years of personal work experience on international cooperation affairs, a preliminary conclusion shows that the liberalization of trade in tourism services does not directly improve Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness compared to other ASEAN member countries. The result of this research also suggests that government policy based on liberal development theories should be reviewed.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the flowering period of three species of Prunus collection in Cibodas Botanic Garden during the four-year period (time series 2009–2012). This flowering data is able to give an information about Prunus flowering ability, which later can improve the amount of Prunus collection through cross breeding and seed collection. Those three Prunus species are Prunus arborea, Prunus costata, and Prunus cerasoides. The result indicated that P.arborea has the rarest flowering cycle compares to other Prunus species On the other hand, P.costata has the most active flowering cycle, which is around 3–4 times/year and it is often followed by development of fruit set and seeds, and P.cerasoides flowering cycle is twice a year, but it is rarely followed by seeds development. The current habitat is more suitable for P. arborea’s flowering and fruiting initiation than for the other two Prunus’. Light intensity induced flowering initiation, while fruit and seed development were influenced by rainfall, air temperature, and other factors such as pollinator.

Abstract

Liriomyza huidobrensis is an invasive pest for various crops. Till now, the management of this pest is by the only use of pesticides which hence increased its resistance and decrease of its natural enemies. The objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of cyromazine and parasitoids for reducing the population of leafminer fl y (L. huidobrensis) and to analyse the economic impact of the different treatments. The study was conducted in the Sirukem village, Kalibening sub district, Banjarnegara district, Central Java from July to November 2009. To address the objective, four treatment strategies were applied: no treatment, cyromazine, parasitoid release and cyromazine-parasitoid, and observa-tion of damage intensity, sampling of infested leaves, assessment of yield and an economic analysis were undertaken. The results found that cyromazine and parasitoids were effective to control against infestation of Liriomyza. Cyromazine was also harmless for parasitoids. The dominant parasitoid found were Opius chromatomyiae and Hemiptarsenus varicorni which preferred to parasitize the larvae of L.huidobrensis on Vicia faba than on Solanum tuberosum.

Abstract

The use of plantago (Plantago major L.) traditionally is less practical, therefore it needs to be developed into chewable tablet dosage form which is more acceptable. To prepare chewable tablet, lactose as a fi ller was used to substitute a part of mannitol which is relatively more expensive. Simplex lattice design (SLD) method was used to obtain the optimum ratio of mannitol-lactose mixture. Formula optimization using SLD was determined by testing of the granules physical properties: fl ow properties, compactibilities, and absorption capacities of water at various ratio. Plantago herbs were extracted by decoction and characterized. Granules of optimum formula were compressed into tablets and followed by testing its qualities: weight uniformities, hardness, brittleness, and qualitative analysis of chemical compounds using thin layer chromatography. Physical properties data of granules and chewable tablets were analysed using theoretical method and statistical with T test. The results showed that the increase of lactose proportion increased the fl ow properties, compactibilities, and absorption capacities of water. T-test at 95% confi dence level (α=0.05) indicated that SLD equalization was valid. Optimum area located between lactose-mannitol 100% : 0% and 20% : 80% with optimum formula was lactose-mannitol 100% : 0% as an optimum formula.
