Abstract

Grain yield improvement is the main objective in rice breeding programs. The objective of this study was to determine the phenotypic characters that have a direct or indirect effect on grain yield of double haploid lines. It expected can be used as selection criteria. The study was conducted on August 2009 at Cikeumeuh Bogor using randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. The materials used were 33 doubled haploid rice lines and three varieties/landraces rice. The results showed that number of productive tillers per hill, number of grains per panicle and 1,000 grain weight of rice can be used as selection criteria in improving grain yield. These three characters has a positive and very signifi cant correlation, positive and high direct effect on grain yield, and havea high heritability value.

Abstract

People with visual impairment is one who just had a vision defect, not a personality flaw nor defect in the will. Even reversed their eyesight defects, many of the potencies latent are difficult to actualize due to a lack of accessibility that they can get. Therefore it would be wise if the government agencies / private sector are more concerned and attentive to this issue. Blind people, as part of the Indonesian people, should be brought out of poverty that shackled his life. This means that they are given the opportunity to transform themselves into better by participating in education and training, so they can become professional and reliable. Thus, their the empowermentof people with visual impairment is an effort to improve a certain dignity in order to escape limitations.

Abstract

Hammer mill is one kind of machine that needs high durability, especially for grinding components such as hammers, which has a function to crush stone (mineral) in to fi  nely shaped (mesh 80). So these components should be made from materials which have some properties, such as high strength, toughness, and wear resistance. In his experiment, the hammers was made from high alloy cast steel, by using mangan, chrom, and copper as alloying materials. The chemical composition of these hammers are: (1) 3~5% Mn – 3~5% Cr – 3~5% Cu; (2) 4~6% Mn – 3~5% Cr – 7~9% Cu; (3) 3~5% Mn – 4~6% Cr – 7~9% Cu; (4) 3~5% Mn – 3~5% Cr – 10~12% Cu; (5) 5~7% Mn – 4~6% Cr – 14~16% Cu. Some of mechanical testing was given to these hammers, such as hardness testing, microstructure analysis testing, and also durability evaluation by using hammer mill machine with capacity 300 kg iron ore/hour. From durability evaluation, those hammers which are made from high alloy cast steel, with mangan, chrom, and copper as alloying material, showed a good result in wear rates by less than 0.4 mm2/kg iron ore. The lowest wear rates of this hammers is 0.14 mm2/kg iron ore, showed by hammers which had a composition 1.6%C – 3.2%Mn – 4.5% Cr – 3.2%Cu with 360 HBN in hardness value.

Abstract

Wheat mutant characterization is a part of the breeding programs to investigate the diversity that can influence in production increased. The  aim of this research was to obtain data characterization morphology, anatomy and physiology that could be used as selection criteria and obtain an adaptive wheat mutant in the tropical lowland area. The research was conducted in Seameo-Biotrop Experimental Garden, located on ±250 m above the sea level, from April until November 2013. There were 18 Dewata wheat mutants and two Selayar wheat mutants, which is an M3 derivative resulted from EMS treatment, were used. LC50 Dewata got the 0.3% EMS treatment for 30 minutes, while LC50 Selayar got the 0.1% EMS treatment for 60 minutes. The data analysis used Augmented Designs Method. The results showed that the mutant Dewata that was significantly affected the morphology was indicated by four characters i.e. cooking time (two mutants), grain weight per genotype (seven mutants), leaf area (five mutants), and green leaves (one mutant). There are two characters in mutant Selayar that bring significant influence on morphological factors, those are seed weight per genotype (one mutant) and leaf area (one mutant), while the cooking time and green leaves have no real effect. Anatomical character appearance on leaf thickness and the size of stomata showed different levels of tolerance between Dewata plant mutant (DW-0,3.30-2-13-3), Selayar mutant (SL-0,1.60-2-14-2), and its both controls. As for the physiological character, there were significant differences in the amount of proline and glucose levels. Proline level in Dewata control was 79.29 µg/gBB, while in DW mutant -0,3.30-2-13-3 was 332.37 µg/gBB. Proline levels in Selayar control was 201.53 µg/gBB, while in mutant SL mutant-0,1.60-2-14-2 was 335.79µg/gBB. Likewise, glucose level in Dewata control was 14.32mg/gBB, while in DW mutant 0,3.30-1-15-1 was 29.06 mg/gBB, Selayar controls (5.87 mg /GBB) with SL mutant-0,1.60-2-14-2 (17.68 mg /gBB).

Abstract

Spectacle animated series is the most preferred by children. Observation of the animated series shows that some of which tend to contain negative values that can negatively impact a child's development. Generally, these negative values regarding violence, either physical or verbal violence. However, in addition to containing negative values, there is also an animated series that have educational values which can be followed by children, for example, Dora the Explorer and Upin and Ipin. Later Masha and the Bear present to enliven the spectacle of television program for children. This study aimed to assess the feasibility of the animated series Masha and the Bear as the spectacle of children. This is achieved by describing the characters of Masha and Misha the bear, as well as assessing the value of positive and negative values contained in this animated series. Description obtained by observing, listening, understanding, and parsing them one by one. The results showed that although the main character, Masha, has a naughty and mischievous character, but this  animated series worth watching for children as long as parents accompany children when watching
