Abstract

The study was assessing the performance of cattle component of technology as determinant for accelerating innovation adoption to support “PSDS 2014” programme in East Java. The assessments were conducted in three districts in East Java Province, which were Blitar, Kediri, and Lamongan. The fi fteen respondents were selected by purposive random sampling representing adopter of component technology. Data collected were characteristics of farmers and farming system, distance from source of information, and also supporting data from local govern-ment. The data were analyzed by qualitative descriptive, with Structure Conduct Performance approach. The results showed that technology performance has effects in accelerating adoption of technology components which are infl uenced by some factors, i.e. farming system characteristics, educational level and accessibility to source of technology information. Accessibility is the most important factor that defi nes how farmers receive information about new technology.

Abstract

Down syndrome is the most common chromosome disorder and genetic cause of mental retardation. It occurs because of the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21. Down syndrome occurs in about one in every 800 live births. Down syndrome occurs with equal frequency across all ethnic groups and subpopulations. This research is intended to acquire a description of phoneme production competence and examines the patterns of deviations which occur as well as identifying the recovering point phonologically of children with down syndrome. The results of the analysis indicate that (1) the deviations in pronunciation occur regularly in each child, for instance, thechange of a certain phoneme occur in other phonemes and it happens repeatedly; (2) The phonological deviations in each child are not the same according to their intelligence, motoric capability, and background environment, (3) The phonological recovery of children with mental retardation requires a certain type of training, but this training will never succeed without supporting and conducive environment.

Abstract

The sanitation development target that everybody has access to sanitation infrastructure has not fulfilled yet, and only 65% of 146 units of septage treatment plant operated well. These conditions need to be improved and the first thing to do is analysing existing condition and composing scientific information as a reference for implementation. The aim of this research is to map the condition and management status of septage treatment plant system in 8 cities selected. This research was conducted by assessing the content of septage treatment technologies using technology atlas approach, which consists of elements technoware, humanware, infoware and orgaware. Mapping carried out on two types of septage treatment plant, that uses Imhoff tank and Anaerobic Baffle Reactor (ABR). Mapping was also conducted on the status of rehabilitation and operational conditions for each septage treatment plant. The results of this study concluded that the sophistication level of septage treatment technology is a medium category with coefficient contribution is 50%. Operational conditions of septage treatment plant is almost optimum with the  ability of septage processing is 54%.  A recommendation to increase the performance of septage treatment plant are : improving septage supply, improving the maintenance quality of processing units, improving SOP quality, sharpening tasks and responsibilities as well as improving human resource competencies.

Abstract

Gasifi cation has become an alternative technology to convert biomass as renewable energy resource. How-ever, the utilization of gas from the process as diesel-engine fuel is hindered by the presence of tar. Used cooking oil could be used as tar absorbent medium due to its higher or nearly equal boiling point compared with that of tar component. In this study, the performance of spray column was evaluated by measuring the absorption effi ciency and mass transfer coeffi cient of volumetric tar in liquid phase (KLa). The tar used in this study was represented by toluene which was carried by air fl ow and then set as tar model in gas producer. The tar model dispersed in air was injected to spray column for absorption process with gas fl ow rate 2.580 L/min and temperature 30°C. The composition of tar model in gas phase was determined both as input and output of spray column by gas chromatography fl ame ionization detector (GC-FID). The absorption effi ciencies of toluene with absorption liquid of water, 5.4% w/w used cooking oil in water and 10.8% w/w used cooking oil in water are 70.2%, 93.8% and 95.2% respectively in 30°C, with KLa value 1.59.10-2/min, 7.10-4/min and 4.10-4/min respectively.

Abstract

This research is an empirical study on poverty in the basic level, the poor themselves. This exploratory research revealed a profile and picture of poverty in urban area, namely Sagan’s intersection community in Yogyakarta with natural inquiry approach, which is trying to obtain information about people by observing and interviewing them in their natural environment. Results showed that this community is not entirely including as the poor, as seen in plain view. This community a mastery of economic location based on seniority. The first person who occupies the location has greater rights than other members. The study also found the phenomenon of socialreliance of the poor. This phenomenon appears as the effects of social values that exist in urban communities. Charity, aid, and other charities serve as wealthy people’s self obligations. Social capital which could encourage the autonomy of the community precisely can bring people into the culture of poverty.

Abstract

Mentik wangi is one of the local rice varieties that need to be conserv and explored its potential. Therefore, research is needed that aims to determine the response of local rice fragrant mentik technology approach System of Rice Intensifi cation (SRI) and Integrated Crop Management (ICM). SRI goals and ICM on the same principle is to increase farmers’ production with different targets and different managers. Research conducted in Jayan Village, Kebon Agung, Imogiri in May 2009 (MK 2009). Research carried out on land owned by farmers with a total area of 2000 m2. Planted rice varieties are fragrant with mentik treatment 2 repeated 3 times. The fi rst treatment is the SRI technology approaches, including: age of young seedlings (14 the day after the scatterplot), spacing of 30 x 30 cm,10 tons/ha of organic fertilizer, without the use of chemical pesticides. The second treatment is the approach of Integrated Crop Management (PTT), including: age of young seedlings (14 the day after the scatterplot), spacing of 25 x 25 cm, 2 tons/hectar of organic fertilizer, 250 kg/ha Urea, 50 kg/ha Sp-36 and 50 kg/ha KCL). The results showed that the results achieved mentik fragrant rice with higher SRI approach (10.89 tons/hectar)compared with ICM technology, technological approach (9.22 tons/ha). Mentik wangi rice produced by SRI and the technology approach is pulen with ICM (SRI amilosa content = 15.65% and ICM = 15.96%), while levels of macro and micro elements mentik fragrant rice produced with higher ICM approach (Phosphor = 15.95 ppm; Fe = 2.48 ppm; Zn = 0.961 ppm; Cu = 0.426 ppm and Mg = 0.670 ppm) compared with the SRI approach (Phosphor = 15.13 ppm; Fe = 2.35 ppm; Zn = 0.648 ppm; Cu = 0.371 ppm and Mg = 0.623 ppm)
