Abstract

Development of hybrid rice using three-lines method in Indonesia is handicapped by low and varied restor-ing ability of restorer line. Most of available restorer line showed to have varied fertility in its F1 resulted from test cross. This experiment was executed to evaluate some crosses resulted anther culture seed and cytoplasmic male sterile as potential restorers. Amount of 32 crosses were planted and grew in rice fi eld. Observations were made on spikelet fertility, 50% fl owering age, anther color, and phenotypic acceptability. Result shows that 4 (four) crosses were found to have spikelet fertility of more than 75%. They were IR70731A/KA74-2, IR70364A/KA78-2, IR58025A/KA26-2, and IR70731A/KA15-2. This result indicated that the male parent of those crosses could be concluded as potential restorer lines

Abstract

To study the process of rapid sedimentation occurred required an understanding of the characteristics of the sediments and oceanographic processes. This paper is to analyse source of silting up and sediment distribution surrounding oil wharves of PT Caltex Pacifi  c Indonesia (PT CPI) after big dredging in 1990 during four months research and intensive survey in 18 research sampling areas. The research used gravimetric method for sediment samples identifi  cation and fi  eld survey for oceanographic conditions twice sampling time, fl  ood tide and ebb fl  ood. Data showed sediment fraction consist of sandy mud with 48.175–74.735% mud content. Classifi  cation and result of sediment statistic analysis indicated wave energy and tide caused silting-up process in the surrounding PT CPI’s oil wharves. This process was sped up by the environmental conditions, reclamation and coastal land changes.

Abstract

This article explains the hegemony of ideology in the construction of local cultural identity on architectural design, found by using Roland Barthes’ semiotical analysis. The research is qualitative with descriptive design, colled from interpretation of the data using semiotics analysis and depth interview. In its conclusion, the writer suggested that architectural design as a cultural artifact should be formed as one of the objects in political communication researches, by using cultural studies approach which shows the hegemonic practice. The need of guidelines of local cultural architectural norms to strengthen local cultural identity in architectural forms as a cultural artifact, also important thing to local goverment concerned.

Abstract

Biodiesel is a renewable alternative energy has now been used widely. The use of biodiesel in diesel fuel vehicles is the hope of anticipating  the needs of increasing diesel oil. This is  consistent with the national energy policy  where the energy mix by 2025 is expected to use alternative energy  can  reach 25%. However, biodiesel has solvent  properties as a good  enough  so that it will be able to influence the  non-metallic  components of   the fuel  line  system  of  motor  vehicles. In  this  study  conducted immersion  test  against non-metallic components  of  the fuel  line system  of  motor  vehicles  Isuzu Panter  which refers   to  the  test  method  SAE  1747  with  the  aim  to  see  the  nature  of the  fuel compatibility with the non-metal components. After soaking material characterization tests performed  by measuring the volume and weight. The results  showed  that  the use of 5% biodiesel  in diesel  fuel cause nonmetallic components undergo expansion/swelling  and contracts in particular rubber, plastic, and  cork. The  biggest  change  occurred  shrinkage of  71.4% on  the  rubber cap tank-solar, Rubber Tank Low – Solar is 28.6% and the Rubber Tank Up-Solar is 25.5% respectively in the phase after 100 hours  of  immersion.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to develop composite board made of bamboo veneer, rubber wood veneer, and log core waste of rubber wood with determining optimum log core strip constructions and type of veneers. The bamboo veneer made from slices of Betung (Dendrocalamus asper), Andong (Gigantochloa verticilata), and Tali (Gigantochloa apus) bamboo species. Strip forms of log core were square and silindric forms. Arrangement of log core strip was zigzag in design. Composite boards were constructed from seven layers. Water Based Polymer Isocyanate was used as adhesive in composite board productions. The research results showed that the composite board made of Andong bamboo veneer, and square strip of log core performed best quality compared to other composite boards. The above type of composite boards fulfi lled Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) No. 1516, 2003 for structural plywood. These composite board was suitable for structural purposes.
