Abstract

Agriculture in a time of climate change is very wary of various countries in the world because it can threaten food security. Indonesia faces this problem based on data and reported news. This paper aims to provide some information about the potential threats of climate change towards crop production in Indonesia to initiate innovations that can be done to maximize crop production amid climate change. We compile this literature review to develop thoughts related to adaptation strategies undertaken to maximize the productivity of food crops under climate change, especially in Indonesia. Several studies that were reviewed showed that there was a decrease in food crop production due to factors in the environment that were changing because of climate change. Therefore, the provided strategy is an example that can be applied and developed to maintain national food productivity. Continued research is needed to provide other plans that are integrated with existing strategies.

Abstract

Frozen vaname shrimp is one of the leading export products from the Indonesian fishing industry sector. Soaking is an important step in the frozen shrimp processing chain to increase the yield and quality of the final product. This study aims to determine the effect of adding additives (STPP and Turbo) at various concentrations in soaking shrimp on the physical-sensory quality of frozen white vaname shrimp. This study used factorial RAK with factors I: (1) STPP 3%; (2) STPP 5%, and factor II: (1) Turbo 2%; (2) Turbo 4%. The quality parameters observed included physical quality (net recovery, step loss, drip loss, cooking loss, increase in check size) and sensory quality (appearance, smell, taste, texture). Data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and DMRT follow-up test (for physical quality), and Dunnet follow-up test (for sensory quality) at 95% confidence level. Descriptive statistical analysis was used for data that did not meet the ANOVA test. The results showed that the addition of STPP and Turbo at various concentrations had no significant effect (α> 0.05) on net recovery, step loss, cooking loss, and product sensory quality. The percentage of stage losses is influenced by the net recovery and gross recovery of shrimp, and all the treatments tested were acceptable to all panelists.

Abstract

Efficiency of the use of inputs in the farming field in the effort to reach an optimal profit in the farming field and environment continuity in agriculture. The correct inputs placement will increase the efficiency and productivity in the rice farming field. This research aims to analyze the impact of the use of seeds, urea, phonska, sp36, pesticides, and labor on the productivity of rice farming and the efficiency level in the use of production factors in the rice farming field in Desa Srikaton, Buay Madang Timur District, East OKU Regency. The quantitative method is used in this research. The data are collected by using questionnaire. There are 60 participants which are determined by cluster sampling technique. Primary and secondary data are used as supporting data. The data are analyzed by using regression technique, using Cobb-Douglas production function model, and allocative efficiency analysis. The result shows that urea, phonska, pesticides, and labor had a positive impact on rice production, while seeds and sp36 had no effect on rice production. In Desa Srikaton rice farming field, the production inputs such as seeds, urea, sp36, pesticide, and labor have not efficient yet, while production inputs such as phonska fertilizer are not efficient.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the comparative advantage of the agricultural sector in Central Lampung Regency. This study uses secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and other relevant agencies. The analysis technique used is Location Quotient (LQ), Klassen Typology, and Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ). The LQ results show that the sub-sector, food crops, horticulture, and livestock are the basic sub-sectors, while the plantation and fisheries sub-sectors are non-basic sub-sectors in Central Lampung Regency in 2014-2017. The results of the DLQ show that the plantation sub-sector will be repositioned to become a basic sub-sector in the future. The sub-sectors that did not experience repositioning or shifting were the food crops, horticulture and livestock sub-sectors, where the three sub-sectors became the basic sub-sectors and will remain the basic sub-sectors in the future. The fisheries sub-sector has also not experienced a repositioning where the sub-sector will remain a non-basic sub-sector in the future. The results of Klassen's Typology Analysis show that the horticulture and livestock sub-sector is a developed and rapidly growing sub-sector, the plantation sub-sector is an advanced but depressed sub-sector, the food crops sub-sector is a potential sub-sector, and the fisheries sub-sector is a relatively lagging sub-sector. The sub-sector that has a comparative advantage in Central Lampung Regency is the horticulture and livestock sub-sector because this sub-sector is an advanced and fast-growing sub-sector.

Abstract

One of the efforts to increase rice production can be done by utilizing land between plantation crops. However, the obstacle faced by intercrops among plantation crops is the low light intensity received by plants. The solution that can be done is to use new high yielding varieties that are shade tolerant. This study aims to produce several varieties of rice that have good adaptation to growth and yield in shaded conditions under coconut stands. The study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) which consisted of 7 treatment varieties, namely Rindang 1, Rindang 2, Inpago 8, Inpago 9, Situ Bagendit, Inpari 32 and Jeliteng, then repeated 4 times. The results showed that the Rindang 1, Rindang 2, Inpago 8 and Inpago 9 varieties were higher than the high yielding varieties between 15.16-52.04 cm. The number of contents and the number of grain per panicle was highest in the Inpago 8 and Inpago 9 varieties. The highest 1000 grain weight was in the Rindang 2 variety, which was 31.09 g. VUB adaptation test under the shade of coconut varieties Inpago 8 and Inpago 9 productivity above 4 tons-1, while the varieties Rindang 1 and Rindang 2 productivity 3.7 tons-1 and 3.9 tons-1

Abstract

Mulberry leaves are currently used as food for silkworms and livestock. Judging from the high protein content, it can be used as alternative flavoring. Mulberry leaves are combined with shrimp heads which high glutamic acid. Making flavoring is through a protein hydrolysis process using papain and calotropin enzymes. The purpose to determine the effect of concentration combination of papain and calotropin enzymes, as well as the hydrolysis time on flavoring characteristics. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) two factors, enzyme combination concentration (1; 2; 3)% and hydrolysis time (1; 2; 3)hours. The best treatment was the flavoring with treatment enzyme combination concentration 3% and hydrolysis time 1 hour, with a characteristic hydrolysis degree 76.58%, dissolved protein 43.40%, water solubility index 0.087 gr/ml, oil absorption 1.20 ml/gr, water content 7.08% and flavoring yield 13.70% and organoleptic test results for taste 3.35 (slightly like), aroma 3.55 (slightly like), color 3.40 (slightly like) and overall 3.60 (somewhat like), and glutamic acid 783.07 mg/100g. Keywords: Calotropin; flavoring; mulberry leaves; papain; shrimp heads

Abstract

Rice husk is an agricultural waste that has the potential source of silica in low-cost zeolite synthesis. The objectives of this study were 1) silica extraction of rice husks as synthetic zeolite raw materials, 2) synthesis and characterized ZSM-5 zeolite from rice husks silica. Silica extraction was carried out by soaking rice husks using a heated 15% NaOH solution. Furthermore, 10% HNO3 solution was added to pH 7 for 12 hours. The filtrate dried in an oven for 12 hours at 100oC. Analysis of silica composition using XRF, crystallinity using XRD, and SEM for morphology. The results showed that rice husks were successfully extracted with an alkali addition and used as a source of silica in the synthesized of ZSM-5 zeolite. The zeolite synthesis was carried out with a low temperature of 90oC and a structural directing agent decrease. Zeolite ZSM-5 showed that the level of crystallinity and morphology by the standard ZSM-5 zeolite. Decreasing of the structural directing agent was found at the SDA/Si ratio of 0.045.
