Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of the Project Based Learning model on student learning outcomes and activities in the ecosystem topic. The research employed a quasi experimental design with a pretest post-test control group design. The subjects consisted of two classes: the experimental class, which was taught using the PjBL model, and the control class, which was taught using the inquiry model. The research instruments included a multiple-choice learning outcome test and an observation sheet for students’ learning activities. The results showed that the average pretest score of students in the experimental class was 44.68, which increased to 80.42 in the post-test, while the control class increased from 43.34 to 75.57. The results of the independent sample t-test indicated a significant difference between the two classes (Sig. 0.001 < 0.05). Students’ learning activities in the experimental class were also higher, with an average percentage ranging from 61.49% to 67.51% (active category), compared to the control class, which ranged from 55.39% to 62.15% (fairly active to active category). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Project Based Learning model has a positive effect on students’ learning outcomes and learning activities in ecosystem material. Therefore, this model can be considered an effective alternative to improve conceptual understanding and students active participation in biology learning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop learning media in the form of digital comics on the subject of the excretory system for 11th grade high school students. The study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method. The sampling technique used is Random Sampling. The research sample is class XI-MIA 1, consisting of 32 students. The instruments used in this study included interview guidelines, questionnaires, and multiple-choice tests in the form of pre-tests and post-tests, each consisting of 30 questions. The data were analyzed qualitatively to examine the feasibility of the media and user responses, as well as quantitatively using N-gain calculations to measure the effectiveness of the learning media. Based on the results of data analysis, digital comics were declared very feasible for use as learning media, with an average score of 4.40 from media experts, 4.82 from subject matter experts, 4.80 from learning experts, and a teacher assessment of 86.5%. Based on the N-gain test analysis, there was an increase in the average score from 56.88 on the pretest to 84.88 on the posttest, with an N-gain value of 0.6492 (64.92%). These results indicate that the learning media is effective.

Abstract

The growing demand for sustainable agriculture has heightened interest in organic fertilizers as eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic inputs. Organic fertilizer served as environmentally sustainable alternatives to chemical fertilizers, which, when overapplied, can adversely affect soil health, human health, and the physical environment. This study aimed to compare the effects of different organic fertilizers on the growth and yield of Brassica rapa chinensis (commonly known as pechay). Three types of organic fertilizers were examined: fish amino acid (FAA), compost, and vermicompost. The results indicated that FAA application yielded the highest growth responses in terms of stem height, leaf length, and the number of leaves, compared to the other organic fertilizers. However, analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed no statistically significant differences among the organic fertilizers concerning these growth parameters at harvest. Conversely, a significant difference was observed in the final weight of pechay, with FAA treatment producing the heaviest plants. In terms of pest resistance, statistical analysis showed a significant difference among the organic fertilizers based on the number of damaged leaves, with vermicompost treatment exhibiting the highest susceptibility to leaf damage. These findings suggest that while all tested organic fertilizers support the growth and yield of B. rapa chinensis, FAA may be the most effective in enhancing biomass accumulation, whereas vermicompost may increase vulnerability to pest damage. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term impacts of these fertilizers on soil health and crop productivity

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of fish waste fertilizer and chicken manure on the growth of pakchoi (Brassica chinensis). The experiment was carried out in January 2020 at Puskopad Housing, Mojokerto, using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three treatments and nine replications, resulting in 27 experimental units. The treatments consisted of control (P1), fish waste fertilizer at 4.5% concentration (P2), and chicken manure at 25 g (P3). Plant height and number of leaves were observed as growth parameters. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The findings indicated that both fish waste fertilizer and chicken manure significantly influenced plant height, whereas no significant differences were observed in the number of leaves. These results suggest that organic fertilizers derived from fish waste and chicken manure can effectively enhance vegetative growth of pakchoi, particularly plant height, while leaf development remains unaffected. The study provides practical insights into the use of organic fertilizers as an alternative to chemical inputs and highlights their potential as an educational medium for promoting sustainable agriculture within communities

Abstract

Boon Pring Andeman Ecotourism Area is a developing nature-based tourism destination characterized by bamboo forests, lakes, and natural water sources. However, the ecological quality of this area has not yet been comprehensively evaluated. Bioindicators, particularly aerial insects, can be used to assess ecosystem conditions because they are sensitive to environmental changes. This study aimed to identify the diversity of aerial insects across four habitat types in the Boon Pring Andeman area, namely the bamboo forest, lakeside area, mahogany forest, and mixed forest; to determine insect groups with potential as bioindicators; and to evaluate ecosystem quality. Insects were sampled through field surveys and identified at the family level. The results recorded 23 insect families distributed across the four study sites. Among them, the family Papilionidae showed potential as a bioindicator of ecosystem quality, although further studies are needed to confirm its reliability. Analysis of ecological indices, including the Shannon–Wiener diversity index, evenness index, and species richness index, showed variations among the four habitats, indicating differences in ecological conditions within the Boon Pring Andeman ecosystem.

Abstract

Cattle manure is an organic waste with high moisture content that can slow down decomposition and produce unpleasant odors. Improving composting efficiency can be achieved by adding Trichoderma sp. as a bioactivator. This fungus produces cellulolytic enzymes that accelerate the breakdown of organic matter while promoting water evaporation. This study explored the application of starter incubated on cattle manure substrate and commercial inoculum applied directly, each with three dosage variations (42 g, 38 g, and 10 g) per reactor. The observed parameters included moisture content, pH, and temperature on days 0, 8, and 14 to evaluate the dynamics of the decomposition process. The results are expected to provide preliminary information on the effectiveness of Trichoderma sp. in reducing the moisture content of cattle manure and to serve as a basis for the development of organic waste management technologies through bioconversion.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model on students’ learning activities and learning outcomes in the Excretory System topic. The study was motivated by the low level of student engagement and learning outcomes associated with teacher-centered instruction, which limits conceptual understanding. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental Control Group Design was employed. The sample consisted of an experimental class receiving PjBL instruction and a control class receiving conventional instruction. Data were collected through classroom observations and pretest–posttest assessments. Statistical analyses included the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene’s Test for homogeneity, and Independent Samples t-Test at a 0.05 significance level. The normality test indicated that activity data were normally distributed in the control class (Sig. = 0.329) and experimental class (Sig. = 0.097). Homogeneity testing confirmed equal variances for learning activities (Sig. = 0.623) and learning outcomes (Sig. = 0.506). Hypothesis testing revealed significant differences in learning activities (t = -2.811; Sig. = 0.006) and learning outcomes (t = -5.580; Sig. = 0.000). The experimental class achieved higher mean scores than the control class. These findings indicate that Project Based Learning positively influences student engagement and academic achievement
