Abstract

Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive condition that often requires long-term hemodialysis (HD) to sustain life. However, HD is associated with fatigue, which affects approximately 60–97% of patients and significantly impacts their quality of life. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the correlation between the length of time undergoing hemodialysis and fatigue levels in CKD patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Hypertension Kidney Clinic Lestari Semarang, involving 68 CKD patients undergoing HD. Fatigue levels were measured using the Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS). Data were analyzed using the Gamma correlation test. Results: The results showed a statistically significant positive correlation between the length of time undergoing hemodialysis and fatigue levels (p = 0.001; correlation coefficient = 0.798), indicating that longer treatment duration is associated with higher fatigue. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the longer a patient undergoes hemodialysis, the more severe the fatigue experienced. It is recommended that healthcare providers implement targeted educational and rehabilitative interventions to reduce fatigue in long-term HD patients and improve their quality of life.

Abstract

Background: Ethical competence is crucial for nurses, particularly in disaster situations, where they face numerous challenges such as limited resources, triage decisions, and patient confidentiality. While various instruments have been developed to assess nurse competencies in disaster contexts, none specifically address ethical competence. Purpose: This study aims to develop and determine the psychometric properties of the Ethical Competence Questionnaire in Disasters for Nurses (ECQD-N). Methods: A mixed-method sequential exploratory design, consisting of two phases, was used. In Phase I, the ECQD-N was developed through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with disaster-experienced nurses, based on the ethical competence literature. Phase II involved testing the psychometric properties of the instrument through a content validity test, a pilot study, and exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The reliability of the instrument was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha. Results: The final sample for the psychometric testing phase consisted of 250 nurses. The Cronbach’s alpha value ranges from 0.774 to 0.902, indicating good reliability. Factor analysis identified four factors: ethical knowledge, ethical skills, ethical attitudes, and ethical issues, collectively explaining 61.655% of the total variance. The final scale with 22 items and four subscales, namely, ethical attitudes (9 items), ethical knowledge (5 items), ethical skills (4 items), and ethical issues (4 items). Conclusion: The ECQD-N is an acceptable tool to measure nurses' ethical competence in disasters reliably. Further research is needed to examine the underlying constructs and their latent variables by conducting a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Abstract

Background: Early detection of growth and developmental milestones in preschool children is a crucial effort to improve the quality of human resources from an early age. The implementation of Early Stimulation, Detection, and Intervention of Child Growth and Development (SDIDTK) in Indonesia is still commonly conducted using paper-based forms, which is time-consuming and less efficient, particularly for parents with limited time and access Purpose: This study aims to develop a digital innovation in the form of an Android-based application that enables practical, fast, and accurate early detection and intervention of preschool children’s growth and development. Methods: The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design, consisting of preliminary studies, application design, interface development, and a limited trial involving preschool children, teachers, and parents. The application, named DDTKA (Deteksi Dini Tumbuh Kembang Anak), is equipped with features such as child data management, age-specific screening, interpretation of growth and developmental status, and recommendations for follow-up actions Results: Results of the limited trial indicated that the application was feasible to use, well accepted by users, and has the potential to improve efficiency in growth and developmental screening Conclusion: This innovation is expected to provide an applicable digital solution to support parents, teachers, and health workers in monitoring and intervening in preschool children’s growth and development

Abstract

Background: body image is a key aspect of adolescents’ self-concept that can influence their psychological well-being and social behavior. Adolescence is marked by various physical, psychological, and social changes. Body image issues generally arise alongside these changes and, in some cases, can become obstacles, such as decreased self-confidence and self-dissatisfaction. The phenomenon of negative body image among adolescents is a significant concern, particularly among adolescents living in coastal tourism areas with unique social and cultural characteristics. Purpose: this study aims to examine the body image of students at Pangandaran State Junior High School 1 who live in a coastal tourism area. Methods: this study is a quantitative descriptive study with a population of 1,023 individuals. The sample consisted of 288 participants, selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. The instrument used was the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire-Appearance Scale (MBSRQ-AS), and data analysis employed univariate techniques, with results presented as percentages. Results: the results showed that 163 respondents (56.6%) fell into the positive category and 125 respondents (43.4%) fell into the negative category. When viewed by dimension, respondents had positive perceptions in the dimensions of appearance evaluation (53.1%), body area satisfaction (55.2%), and self-classified weight (61.8%), and negative perceptions in the dimensions of appearance orientation (50.3%) and overweight preoccupation (53.1%). Conclusion: Positive body image among the majority of respondents has not been accompanied by good self-care behaviors; therefore, it is recommended that institutions enhance health promotion education and interventions and foster a supportive social environment, given that environmental factors play a significant role in shaping adolescents’ body perceptions.
