Abstract

Introduction: Erigo serves as a compelling research subject due to its recent reputation crisis from plagiarism allegations, illustrating how companies can face significant brand challenges. Its application of Image Repair Theory offers insights into effective crisis communication strategies, while the role of social media highlights the dynamics of public perception. Analyzing Erigo’s experience provides valuable lessons for other brands facing similar ethical issues. Methods: This study takes a descriptive qualitative method. Using the case study method. The data source used includes data analysis from several social media platforms, including Instagram and Twitter. In addition, this study draws on data from earlier research. Findings: Erigo used one of Image Repair Theory’s tactics to deal with his reputation crisis: the mortification strategy. Mortification is an approach that involves accepting responsibility for the objectionable action/event, apologizing, and asking for forgiveness. Expressions of remorse are also included in this category. Erigo demonstrated this by apologizing to both the public and the illustrator concerned. Originality: This study becomes novelty because there has been no previous research that discusses how Erigo’s crisis communication strategy deals with this problem. Previous research has also focused more on customer experience and customer brand trust in the Erigo fashion brand.

Abstract

Introduction: Government public relations ideally conveys policies and regulations in an integrated manner (one government one voice), but in reality there is often different and contradictory information in each government institution, thus confusing the public and hindering the handling of the pandemic. This research answers the question of how the crisis narrative is built by 5 (five) central government institutions in Indonesia through their official websites, whether the narrative tends to be integrated or vice versa. Methods: The method used in this study is qualitative content analysis where the author collects all news materials on 5 (five) official websites of government agencies, namely: the Covid-19 Task Force, the Ministry of Information and Communication, the Ministry of Health, the Cabinet Secretariat and the State Secretariat, in March-August 2020. Findings: Data were analyzed based on the principles of Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) as a reference for coherence (integration) of narratives between institutions. The results of the study indicate that CERC principles are used comprehensively by the five institutions studied. In general, the narratives built by the five institutions tend to be integrated on the issues: (1) the narrative of the initial responding; (2) the narrative of handling and controlling; (3) the narrative of helping and caring; (4) the narrative of regulating and advising. Originality: The study has novelty in the application of crisis communication based on the CERC principles of the Covid-19 pandemic which is viewed comparatively in the narratives of 5 (five) Indonesian government institutions.

Abstract

Introduction: This study aims to describe the important role of organizational culture in strengthening the deontology ethics of local media journalists. Deontological ethics states that the will to do good must arise from within a person's individual. Organizational culture is one of the means used to instill, strengthen and internalize these values. Technological disruptions that have an impact on changes in media consumption, the closure of print media, the development of online media have changed the dynamics of journalistic practice in Indonesia. The important role of ethics comes to the fore in maintaining the quality of local media journalistic practices. Methods: This research was conducted with a phenomenological approach. The data were obtained from interviews with local media journalists in Central Java. Informants in this study are journalists who have worked for more than 20 years in local media, members of journalist organizations and actively provide journalistic ethics training. Findings: Ethics are still considered important by journalists. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen ethics considering that not all journalists have adequate knowledge and understanding of ethics. The culture of media organizations and professional organizations plays an important role in strengthening the deontology ethics of local media journalists. Originality: This research provides a novelty on how to strengthen the deontological ethics of local media journalists through strengthening organizational culture. This research provides it in terms of building journalist ethics as individuals and the media as a press company that sells news ideology.

Abstract

Introduction: The Covid-19 pandemic caused educational institutions to temporarily suspend face-to-face classes. This led university lecturers to immediately shift to work from home mode in teaching students and collaborating with colleagues which made them adjust their work routine into online mode. Since this phenomenon entailed unique experiences based on the context of lecturer and students, this study aims to know the role of media and information communication technologies on the work from home experiences of a university lecturer during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: A case study of a university lecturer was conducted through a written interview. Questions that solicit information on feelings about working from home, descriptions of the tasks needed to do in a usual day of a lecturer working online, and challenges encountered in teaching during the pandemic. Codes, categories and themes were generated in the data analysis. Findings: Results reveal that home was perceived as a comfort zone for the university lecturer during the time of pandemic. The use of social media, email, and video conferencing platforms were based on three aspects: (1) the intention for communication; (2) the importance of materials involved, and (3) the assessment of fitness to work context.     Originality: This project provides understanding of lived experiences of a university lecturer during the Covid-19 pandemic and how technology plays a role in teaching and learning based on the context of their uses. The piece can be used as a scaffolding of future studies that intends to look at emerging relationships between humans and technology.

Abstract

Introduction: The culture of dating has changed a lot, and young people today are more interested in finding romantic partners through online dating sites. This study aims to describe interpersonal relationships that are formed through an online dating application called Tinder. Methods: This study used a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach. Three users of the online dating application Tinder, namely two men and one woman, were selected purposively as research informants. Data collection was carried out virtually using interview techniques and observation of informant conversations on the dating application. Meanwhile, in-depth interview data were only obtained from research informants who actively used the application. To reduce research bias, the researcher conducted further data exploration by extending the research time and recording and collecting verbal and nonverbal data virtually. The data obtained were analyzed using NVivo12 software. Findings: These findings suggest that communication security in daring relationships is a concern for Tinder users. Furthermore, the study found that self-disclosure does not always guarantee privacy security in online interpersonal relationships. This study proves that the theory of self-disclosure contradicts the assumption of self-disclosure and privacy. Originality: The novelty of this study is that it brings together the concept of communication security with social media studies. Many studies place the concept of self-disclosure in relation to interpersonal communication and are studied using a quantitative approach. Meanwhile, this study places self-disclosure within the framework of communication security studies with mixed methods.
