Abstract

This study examines the communication strategies used by Umi Lailatur Rohmah Hadi, a young preacher from Surabaya, with a focus on classical and modern rhetorical analysis. Aristotle's classical rhetorical approach, namely ethos (credibility), pathos (emotion), and logos (logic), is combined with Kenneth Burke's modern rhetorical theory, dramatism (analysis of communication as drama) to understand the effectiveness of message delivery. The results of the analysis show that Umi Lailatur is able to combine personal credibility, a touching emotional approach, and logical arguments that are easy to understand, thus building a strong affinity with audiences from various backgrounds. The simple narrative style and the insertion of salawat and songs are also characteristics that strengthen the appeal of her communication. Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the meaning and experience of communicators and audiences in internalizing and applying ethos, pathos, and logos as basic elements of rhetoric in public communication in Indonesia. Thematic data analysis showed that communicator credibility (ethos), emotional management (pathos), and logical argumentation (logos) complement each other in building persuasive and meaningful communication. The findings confirm the importance of balancing the three rhetorical elements for effective public communication and enrich the theoretical understanding and practice of strategic communication in Indonesia. Further research is recommended to explore the dynamics of rhetoric in digital and cross-cultural communication. Keywords : Rhetoric, Ethos, Pathos, Logos, Public communication.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Ustad Hanan Attaki's da'wah through the TikTok social media platform. Additionally, this abstract explains the research methods and theories used, namely literature review with the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) theory and the concept of diffusion of innovation, as well as TikTok's relevance as a contemporary da'wah medium. Finally, the summary of findings indicates that Ustad Hanan Attaki's da'wah strategy on TikTok leverages the platform's characteristics to reach young audiences with relevant messages and an adaptive communication style. The results suggest that da'wah on TikTok has significant potential to increase religious awareness and is not merely entertainment content, despite challenges in delivering in-depth messages. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of TikTok's role in digital da'wah, especially among Generation Z and millennials.
