Abstract

ABSTRACTPutak is one of the alternative energy sources that can  used in poultry ration. However, the utilization of putak is limited due to its anti-nutritional factors especially fibre that could affect the gut health. Thus, it is important to potential feed additives that can improve the health of the digestive tract as well as the digestibility. Probio_FMplus is symbiotic probiotics produced by the Kupang State Polytechnic, but the study of using this probiotics is still very limited. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of Probio_FMplus on growth performance of grower broilers fed diet containing putak and without putak. Total of 192 unsex broilers were randomly alloted into 24 pens (8 birds/pen). The experimental design was 2x2 factorial randomized complete design. The treatments were R0P0 (control diet), R0P1 (diet containing no putak + Probio_FMplus), R1P0 (diet containing no putak + no Probio_FMplus),  R1P1 (diet containing  putak +  Probio_FMplus). The data was analysed by using general linear model SAS version 9.1 (2004). The results showed that interaction of probiotic and putak did not affect (P>0.05) body weight gain, feed consumption, and feed efficiency. Birds fed diet containing putak had higher (P<0.05) body weight gain compared to those fed diet without putak. No differences were found in birds fed given Probio_FMplus  and no Probio_FMplus . However, numerically birds received Probio_FMplus  had higher body weight gain. In conclusion, 1) supplementation of Probio_FMplus in diet containing putak and without putak did not affect growth performance of grower broilers, 2) Putak improved body weight gain of grower broilers. Numerically Probio_FMplus improved body weight gain of grower broilers. Key words: Probiotics, putak

Abstract

Study Dendrology of Trees Spesies in Kupang State Agricultural Polytechnic. The research was conducted on field of Politani Kupang, in order to identify trees species located in Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Kupang area. The research used Census method to collected materials on the field; Descriptive method to obtained special characteristics of plants, was held on the field and laboratory, and Identification to got trees name by compared the tree with its proponent literatures. The result showed that there were 36 species of trees from 14 families growing in Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Kupang. Those were Alstonia scholaris (L.) R.Br.u, Bombax ceiba Linn, Ceiba pentandra (L.) Gaertn., Delonix regia (Hook.) Raf., Cassia siamea Lamk., Casuarina equisetifolia Blanco, Terminalia, Macaranga tanarius Muell. Abstract

Nipi fish (Hemiramphus far) was the important resources of foods  for peoples in TTU regency. The knowledge about data and information of reproductive biology of nipi fish was unknown and very limited. The objective of this research was to know reproductive biology of nipi fish and its implementation, and than it can be used as the source of learning, the first or primary data, and the important of information in study of fishing biology in resources the management sustainable. The research was conducted in Biology Laboratory of Timor University and it analyzed using statistic quantitative and descriptive covered length and weight distribution, sexual ratio, gonad maturity level, gonad somatic index, and fecundity. The samples of nipi fish was taken by random sampling at lampara or drawing trawl in the oceanic waters of north beach of TTU regency. The result of this research showed that during 5 months from December 2015 until April 2016 the total samples were 144 fishes comprised 90 females and 54 males dominated by female fishes. The highest distributionof the length for male and female was 27-28 cm. The weight of female was 58-65 gr, male fishes was 50-57 gr. The sexual ratio between male and female was not balance or not significantly (not 1 : 1) with the ratio was 1 : 1,66 or 37,5 % : 62,5 %. TKG dominated by TKG III and IV in March – April that indicated have been entered the season  of climax spawner. The IKG of female fishes was heigher than the male with percentage above 19% was 19,99% ready to spawning. The everage of the fecundity was 300 eggs.

Abstract

Model Plan Usahatani Conservation As Dry Farming ProductivityEnhanced Efforts. In the effort erosion trouble-shooting and the low of dry farming productivity, has been executed serangkian research which in focussed in area of Praktek Politani Kupang having location in Oesao Kabupaten Kupang. Research aim to study specific usahatani model of dry farming. Three kinds of model usahatani conservation has been checked, yakti bench terrace, terrace;core gulud and without terrace;core. Measurement of level of erosion is done in emperis with method USLE. To evaluate farm productivity also is done cultivation of green peanut crop Result of research indicates that technically, model usahatani conservation of bench terrace and terrace;core gulud gives repair impact to degradation of erosion speed and improvement of farm productivity. Bench terrace earns effectively lessens erosion until under admissible erosion boundary, however memerlukn technical clauses in its(the making in order not to harm plant growth. Terrace;core gulud is one of alternative of conservation that need to be considered, especially at soil;land;grounds having [shallow/ superficial] solum, because cost in its(the making is cheap and doesn't require many labours, and top layer soil is not annoyed. Abstract

Flies are an important vector in directing disease to livestock. It can cause economic losses for farmers such as decreasing the selling price of livestock products, especially meat and milk while losses to livestock are blood loss and weight loss. The aim of this study was to determine thediversity of species, patterns of activity of flies and their relationship to temperature, season, and sex. The research was carried out on semi-intensive cattle farms in the Oli'o dalam kom pasture and Kebun Nitas in Kupang Timur District, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Flies samples were collected using the New Zealand 1 trap. Traps are installed randomly directly at the grazing location, while in cages, traps are placed at a distance of 3-5 meters from the cage guardrail. NZ1 traps are installed from 08:00 until 16:00, then the collection of fly samples is carried out at intervals of two hours from the time of installation, namely 10: 00, 12: 00, 14: 00 and 16: 00. Flies were collected and euthanized with 70% alcohol, then identified by species with identification keys (Dodge 1967) and(Masmeathathip, 2013). Then the data were analyzed descriptively and SEM, from the results of the research obtained by Musca domestika flies, Musca stabulans, Fannia canicularis, haematobia irritans and Tabanus striatus

Abstract

Application of Various Concentrations of Woodcarving Waste Liquid Smoke on Sei Meat Aroma and Flavour. Utilization of waste from woodworking industry to produce liquid smoke (LS) and application of the LS is a new method in sei meat production. This experiment was aimed to find proper concentration of the LS to produce sei meat that replicate a selected traditionally-produced sei meat. A Difference-From-Control-Test was used to obtain mean of differences of 4 treatments namely blind control; A0-without LS; A1-1% LS; A2-2% LS, and A3-3% LS. Data analysis results (ANOVA) showed that all treatments that contain LS were different from blind control. The differences may be due to the use of different kind of woods to produce LS and/or by the differences in LS concentration applied.Keyword : waste from woodworking industry, liquid smoke, sei meat (smoked meat)

Abstract

Corn kernels that are stored for a longer period are susceptible to pest infestation by Sithopilus zeamais. To overcome these problems, we need environmentally friendly pest control techniques, namely the use of resistant cultivars. This study aims to determine the level of resilience of 22 local Timor corn cultivars against the Sitophilus zeamais L. Pest. The results showed that the highest total population was found in the Muke Bunga Putih cultivar (121 individuals), Desa Kie Dusun 3 (107, 5 individuals), Silawan Kuning (109.5 individuals), Desa Oenlasi Dusun 4 (141.5 individuals), while the lowest total population were in the Haikesak Putih cultivar (11.5 individuals), Tastim 1 Putih (15 individuals), and Tasifeto Timor Biboki Anleu Putih (17 individuals). Bunga Merah Muke cultivar, Pulut Putih Muke cultivar, and Bunga Putih Fatumonas cultivar have the smallest development period (30 days), while Kie Dusun 1 and Malaka 2 Kuning cultivars have the largest development periods (35 days). There are 7 cultivars, namely Haikesak Putih, Tastim 1 Putih, Bunga Merah Fatumonas, Desa Kie Dusun 1, Malaka 1 Putih, Putih Fatumonas and Tasifeto Timur Biboki Anleu Putih that are resistant to S. zeamais pests. Keywords: cultivar, Timor local maize, Sitophilus zeamais. Abstract

Growth and Yields of Three Tomato Plants In Salinity Stress. Salinity negatively affects to growth and yield of crops. It can be reduced by planting adaptive plants as a method to overcome. The research was to study the effect of saline water gradient to three cultivars of tomato in relation to growth and yields, and to determine the tolerance level of the 3 tomato cultivars grown in saline conditions. A split plot was used with three replications in each treatment.  The main-plots were 3-levels saline water gradient: 0 dS.m-1 (control), 2.5 dS.m-1 (a low level), and 5.0 dS.m-1 (a moderate level). The sub-plots were three different tomato cultivars: Rempai, Royal and Permata. The result showed that saline water gradient (2.5 and 5.0 dS.m-1) reduced the growth and yield of the 3 experimental tomato cultivars.  The decrease of growth and yields in Rempai was lower than two other cultivars, Royal and Permata, due to the slightingly and moderately saline water gradient. In salinity stress, Rempai was lower in the stress sensitivity indices, and higher in the stress tolerance and yield stability indices. It indicated that Rempai was more resistant than Permata and Royal against to salinity stress. Key words: tomato, salinity, growth, yield, resistance.

Abstract

The development of seaweed farming needs to be preceded by a feasibility study to anticipate the failures. Feasibility of oceanographic parameters determine the quality of seaweed farming areas, consist of physical parameters including depth, brightness and current velocity, and chemical environment which is salinity, pH and nitrate concentration in the waters. The study aims to determine the suitability of oceanographic parameters of the seaweed farming areas in the coastal waters of Northwest Rote District. The results showed that the sea surface temperature ranges between 29.77°C - 30.17°C, salinity between 30.67‰ - 31.67 ‰, ranges of current velocity between 0.13 m/s - 0.20 m/s, depth ranges between 3,0 m - 3.69 m, pH ranges between 7.27 - 7.37 and the types of substrate is generally sandy. The suitability analysis showed that the coastal waters in District of Nortwest Rote were classified as quite suitable for seaweed farming. Key Words:  Oceanographic parameters, Seaweed farming, Northwest Rote

Abstract

Marosi beach is an natural mangrove in West Sumba Regency. This inventory of vegetation in Marosi beach is based on the lack of scientific data in mangrove vegetation, where its will support the sustainable forest management. The line transect  was develop on line of beach to collect the data. The results showed that 10 species were classified into 9 families was found, its namely Avicennia lanata (Ridley), Rhizhopora lamarckii Montréal., Lumnitzera racemosa Willd., Aegiceras corniculatum (L.) blanco, Excoecaria agallocha L., Excoecaria indica, Heritiera littoralis, Dolichandrone spathacea (Lf), Pandanus tectorius. Parkinson ex Z., L. Cerbera manghas. The distribution on tree strata, Excoecaria agallocha L. is a species whose presence is more than 73.33%. At sapling strata  Rhizhopora lamarckii Montréal., Avicennia lanata (Ridley) is a species whose presence is 53.33%, At strata seedling Rhizhopora lamarckii Montréal., whose presence is a kind of 53.33%.Key words: Inventory, mangrove, habitats.
