Abstract

The productivity of tomato plants in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) in 2016 reached 4.70 tons/ha, increasing by 17.66% from 2015. However, the harvested area decreased by 6.74%. Based on the above data, there is an increase in tomato productivity in NTT but still low compared to national productivity of 15.31 tons/ha. Some of the possible differences in productivity, in addition to the decline in harvested area are also caused by inadequate cultivation techniques that include plant density regulation and other cultivation measures. The purpose of this study was 1) to examine the effect of plant density on growth and yield of tomato plants cut by apical buds and 2) to obtain the best size of plant density that can increase the growth and yield of tomato plants. This study used a randomized block design with a planting distance factor consisting of 8 treatment levels with 4 replications: spacing of 50cmx40cm, 60cmx40cm, 70cmx40cm, 50cm x 50cm, 60cm x 50cm, 70cm x 50cm, 60cm x 60cm, 60cm x 60cm and 70cm x 60cm. The results showed that plant density had an effect on plant growth, namely stem diameter and number of productive branches, and influenced the yield of tomato plants namely fruit weights, plant density/spacing of 70 cm x 40 cm and 70 cm x 60 cm had the best influence on plant growth and fruit weight per plant highest (1037.19grams/plant and 907.50 grams/plant) of  betavila variety.

Abstract

The experiment of Characteristics Sensoric of  Sweet Bread on Composite Fl ourBases That Fortification by Seaweed was conducted at Food Technology Laboratory of Politani Negeri Kupang. The objective of the research are to get good comparison between composite flour and seaweed flour to produce good sensoric of sweet bread. The experiment was used RCBD design with factorial pattern.  The factors were composite flour (0%, 10%, 20% and 30%), seaweed flour  (0%, 5% and 10%) and 3 time replications. The seaweed cultivar used for fortification was Eucheuma cotonii. The respons were  observed sensoric evaluation. The data varians was evaluated and continued by DMRT test. The result showed that the sensoric respons were (a) The panelist still interested on grain/cell colour, aroma, and flavour of sweet bread made of  composite flour until 10% (b) The most of panelist interest on the texture (the soften) of sweet bread  made of wheat flour base, (c) Fortification 5% and 10% of seaweed to the dough has a little affect of panelist interest to sweet bread. The prosfect sweet bread  was the bread made of composite flour 10% and fortification  of seaweed flour 10% has  good quality. Key Words: fortification, composite flours, sensoric.

Abstract

Dough Methods for Improving Quality of Sweet Bread On Composite Flour Bases. The experiment was conducted at Food Technology Laboratory Politani Negeri Kupang from April to November 2007. The experiment used RCBD. The factors consisted of Composite Flour (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%) and The Methods of Dough (Straight Dough, Sponge Dough, and Dough Break Roll/DBR), and 3 replications. The variables observed were volume expansion, porosity, texture, moisture, crude fiber bread and total (colony) microorganisms. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance and Duncan Multiple Range Test. Addition of composite flour to dough until 30% affected on characteristics of bread: expansion was lower, the total porosity that medium-large size lower, texture more hard, crude fiber higher, the total microbe colony lower. The Straight Dough produced bread that expansion was normal, texture soft, and the total microbe colony higher. The Sponge Dough produced bread that expansion was medium, texture rather soft, crude fiber and total microbe colony lower. The Dough Break Roll (DBR) produced bread that expansion was highest, porosity medium and texture soft, crude fiber high, total microbe colony low. The best methods for sweet bread were Dough Break Roll method (DBR) and the best composition was composite flour 10%. Keywords: composite flours, dough methods, sweet bread

Abstract

Aquaponic refers to any system that combines conventional aquaculture with hydroponics in a symbiotic environment. In this study, catfish was cultured with green cabbage. The aim of this study was to observe catfish growth in aquaponics system. The growth parameters measured included feed consumption (g/day/fish), growth (g), growth rate (%/day), mean metabolic body weight (kg0.8), metabolic feed intake (g/ kg0.8/day), relative growth rate per metabolic weight (g/kg0.8/day), relative feeding rate (%BW/day), relative feeding rate per metabolic weight (g/kg0.8) and feed conversion. Factorial randomized trial was used with two factors namely fish stocking density (P) and plant substrate composition (S) with three replications. Stocking density factor consisted of two treatments which were 75-125 individuals per m2 (P1) and 126-175 individuals per m2 (P2). The composition of the substrate included two treatments, namely S1 (70% gravel+30% palm fibres) and S2 (70% pumice+30% palm fibres). The data shown that there is no significant difference of substrate and interaction (stocking density x substrate) factors to the growth of catfish (P>0.05). Whereas, for the treatment of stocking densities, a significant difference (P <0.05) was found on four growth parameters (initial weight, SGR, RGRm and feed consumption). Keywords : aquaponics, catfish, green cabbage and fish growth

Abstract

The success of artificial insemination is not only a factor of feed, seeds and environment but also the quality of human resources. It depends not only from the inseminators but also on farmers’ behaviours as main actors in artificial insemination, which are knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The research was conducted at Amarasi sub-district, aiming to determine the level of farmers’ adoption of artificial insemination, and the effect of farmers’ behaviors on the adoption rate of artificial insemination in beef cattle. The sampling method was purposive sampling, the number of respondents was 40 breeders, data were analyzed descriptively. The effect of farmers’ behavior on adoption rates, the analysis used was multiple linear regression. The relationship between knowledge and adoption rate was a positive and close relationship (rs= 0.715), attitude and adoption rate was a positive relationship (rs= 0.693), skills were positively related to moderate closeness (rs= 0.450), with the adoption rate. Key words: Behaviour, Adoption, Artificial Insemination, Farmers, Beef Cattle.

Abstract

We studied students competence improvement in managing marginal land by comparing Inquiry Training Agriculture Vocational Education (ITPVP) versus direct instruction (PL) base approach on palmyra palm fruit fibers compost use to remediate shallow and rocky dryland. The study wasdesigned according to true experimental design. We devided students of  Politani into two groups, namely whether they participated on ITPVP or PL base learning. The two groups have homogenious academic prestation indexes. We conducted tests at the end of every  practical. We found, ITPVP group students had significantly (p<0.05)  higher cognitive, affective and phsycomotoric competence, compared to the PL group.  The ITPVP group also had better  agronomic  skills. We conclude the ITPVP base practical for vocational agriculture students improves learning competence, better than the PL approach.
