Abstract

The characteristics of flour much determine the quality of food products. Maize starch has several limitations to be developed into food products. Hence, to expand its use in food production, the starch needs to be modified. Modification of the starch can be done through the fermentation process. This modification is expected to change its physico-chemical aspects and functional properties. Some lactic acid bacteria (including L. bulgaricus and L.casei) are capable of degrading the corn cell wall, resulting in the starch granules to come out of the cell which eases the grinding process. L. bulgaricus and L. casei also can degrade starch contained in the growth medium into simple sugars, degrade proteins, and peptides into amino acids (Ganzle et al., 2008). The modified maize starch is also expected to be a proper substitution of regular flour in food products. The purpose of the research is to examine the quality of the modified starch through fermentation. The results showed that thefermentation time and concentration of bacteria dramatically affect the physical results where fermented corn was whiter and slightly acidic and chemically decreased the pH of corn flour to 4.5 and was relatively stable at 48 hours fermentation with a concentration of 4% and 6 %. The bestmodified chemical properties of local white corn are 36 hours fermentation with a concentration of 2% lactobacillus casei with a total protein value of 8.7%.

Abstract

Compost is organic material (organic waste) that has undergone a weathering process because of the interaction between microorganisms (bacteria decomposition) that work in it.  Organic materials such as leaves, grass, straw, the remains of twigs, branches and animal waste. In the open nature of compost can occur by itself through a natural process. But   the process lasts for so many years. Therefore the process needs to be accelerated with the help of human. The purpose of this study was to assess the percentage of good natural ingredients for the manufacture of quality compost. The experiment was conducted with single randomized block design (RBD) of compost (lamtoro: lontar fruit fiber: cow manure) with 6 percentage treatment and 4 repeat so that obtained 24 unit of experiment, that is: P1: leaf lamtoro 20% + 30% lontar fruit fiber + 50% cow manure, P2: 30%  leaf lamtoro + 20%  lontar fruit fiber +   50% cow manure, P3: leaf lamtoro 50% + 30%  lontar fruit fiber + 20%  cow manure, P4: 20%  leaf  lamtoro + 50%  lontar fruit fiber + 30%  cow manure,  P5: 30%  leaf  lamtoro  + 50%  cow   manure 20%,  P6 : leaf lamtoro 50% + 20%  lontar fruit fiber + 30% cow manure. Percentage of compost material from leaf lamtoro: lontar fruit fiber: cow manure on treatment P6 shows higher temperature and humidity than other treatments. Results of macro and micro nutrient analysis showed nutrients level from medium to high. The results of the C/N ratio analysis show low result when compared to the C/N ratio level status. Keywords: compost, leaf lamtoro, lontar fruit fiber, cow manure and percentage

Abstract

This study aims is to find the response of antibody titers in chickens vaccinated with ND and given herbal remedies. The chickens used which were one day broiler (DOC) strain of CP 707. This extract groups were given to chickens from 7 days until 28 days in three treatment groups and one control group (drinking water). Serum samples were taken from chickens aged 7, 14, and 21 days after ND vaccination, followed by serological tests. The average that of antibody titers before were giventreatmentand 7 days post vaccination showed that the highest titers and the average antibody titers after vaccination at day 14, 21 and 28 days and post were given treatment with herbs and decoction of curry leaves were decrease. ANOVA analysis revealed that all treatments had no significant effect (P> 0.05) toward the number of antibody titers in tested broiler chickens. In the treatment of herbal medicine, a combination of herbs and decoction of curry leaves, and decoction of curry leaves whichwere given to chickens showed that there were the same number of antibody titers as the control of only drinking water. But the platelet values in the treatment group were higher than control (drinking water).

Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate nutrient composition and in-vitro digestibility of organic matter of native grass hay usually used to feed Bali cattle in the Quarantine of Tenau Kupang and cattle during shipping. Method use were sampling the hay grass from five piles of grasses, identifying the species, analyzing nutrient composition and examining in-vitro digestibility of organic matter. Results of the study showed that the dominant hay grasses in Quarantine were native grass and kume grass (Sorghum plumosum var. timorense). Nutrient content of the native grass are dry matter (92.21%), ash (3.85%) and crude protein (5.01%). These numbers are higher than numbers in kume grass but organic matter and neutral detergent fiber. The in-vitro digestibility of organic matter was higher in native grass (48.01%) than that in kume grass (40.81%). It was concluded that hay grass used to feed cattle in the Quarantine and cattle during shipping are dominated by native grass and kume grass. Nutrient composition especially dry matter, ash and crude protein in native grass are higher than numbers in kume grass but organic matter and neutral detergent fiber. Consequently, in-vitro digestibility of native grass is higher than that in kume grass.Key words: nutrient, in-vitro digestibility, hay grass, quarantine, shipping

Abstract

The dissemination of a food crop-based ruminants development model will determine the success of a commodity that can compete in the market, as well as open up employment opportunities and provide income for farmers. This research aims to; (1) disseminating a model of food crop-based ruminants development in farmer groups in Kupang Barat sub-district, Kupang Regency, (2) producing an effective and efficient food-based ruminant animal development model in supporting food self-sufficiency so that it can maintain food security for the community at Kupang Regency, (3) increases the sustainability and ecological balance for the long-term growth and production of plants and livestock. Production data obtained during one planting season of corn, cabbage flowers, beans and a period of raising cattle in 2019. The data analysis model used in this study is the analysis of costs, revenues and profits of farming according to Tohir (1980). The results of the analysis show that the dissemination of a food crop-based ruminant development model is very beneficial for farmers with a magnitude of the profit ratio between revenue and cost of 8.6. This means that at the expense of a fee of one rupiah, an income of 8.6 rupiah would be obtained.
