Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of herbs and yeast addition to drinking water on the weight and length of the digestive tract of broiler chickens. The study design used a completely randomized design with four treatmens and five repetitions. Group P1: Herbal medicene 10 ml/Liter drinking water, P2: Herbal medicine 10 ml added with yeast 1 g/Liter drinking water, P3: Yeast 1g/Liter drinking water, PO: Controls given water. Data analysis used analysis of variance (Anova) and if the result had a significant effect, it was continued with Duncan's Multiple Distance tes. The addition of herbs and yeast to drinking water had an effect on the size of the spleen and pancreas and significantly (P<0,05) on the weight of the spleen and pancreas, but had no effect (P> 0,05) on the weight and length of the small intestine, liver and broiler final weight. The addition of herbs and yeast to drinking water can reduce the weight of the small intestine and shorten the intestine, increase the weight of the spleen and pancreas, but have the same effect on the final weight. The use of herbal medicene should be fermented together with yeast to determine its effectiveness in the digestive tract.

Abstract

Dermatophytosis in dogs can be caused by one species of dermatophytes group called Microsporumcanis. This study aims to isolation and identification of M. canis in dogs suspected dermatophytosis inYogyakarta. Skin scrapings from 50 dogs that clinically showed lesions such as combination of alopecia,erythema, papules, pustules, scaly and crusty used in this study. Samples of skin scraping were culturedin the Sabouraud’s dextrose agar media for fungi identification macroscopically and microscopically. Theresults showed that 17 of 50 samples (34%) grown on SDA medium from 2 to 18 days after cultivation. Thecolony grew with flat topography and slightly reflexed, the surface of the colony looks like a thick fur, whitein the middle and surrounded by brownish yellow color and the edges were colorless. The opposite surfaceof the colony looks flat and slightly reflexed and orange to brown and the edges were colorless. Observationmicroscopically, the fungi showed a large macroconidia with a thick cell wall and contains 6-12 cells andoval microconidia with a small size and found in few along the hyphae. Based on the research it can beconcluded that 17 of 50 (34%) samples of dogs with dermatophytosis are Microsporum canis.

Abstract

This study aims is to find the response of antibody titers in chickens vaccinated with ND and given herbal remedies. The chickens used which were one day broiler (DOC) strain of CP 707. This extract groups were given to chickens from 7 days until 28 days in three treatment groups and one control group (drinking water). Serum samples were taken from chickens aged 7, 14, and 21 days after ND vaccination, followed by serological tests. The average that of antibody titers before were giventreatmentand 7 days post vaccination showed that the highest titers and the average antibody titers after vaccination at day 14, 21 and 28 days and post were given treatment with herbs and decoction of curry leaves were decrease. ANOVA analysis revealed that all treatments had no significant effect (P> 0.05) toward the number of antibody titers in tested broiler chickens. In the treatment of herbal medicine, a combination of herbs and decoction of curry leaves, and decoction of curry leaves whichwere given to chickens showed that there were the same number of antibody titers as the control of only drinking water. But the platelet values in the treatment group were higher than control (drinking water).

Abstract

Flies are vectors of various diseases in livestock. Eupatorium odoratum plants are bush plants that thrive and have antibacterial, antifungal and insecticidal activity. The purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness of Eupatorium odoratum extract as a natural insecticide, easy to get and safe. Flies were taken from the farmyard location, then grouped into 4 of 40 each per group. Flies were treated with Eupatorium odoratum extract at concentrations of 25%, 50% and 75%, while the controls were not treated. Observation of extract activity on flies mortality was taken within 3 hours, 6 hours to 12 hours after treatment. The data were analyzed descriptively and showed that the treatment result was not effective. Flies adapted in experimental cages do not get food (blood sucking activity at the host), so flies will die or flies can not survive outside the host's body.

Abstract

Herbal medicine has been used an empirical prevention and treatment of diseases in livestocck. Herbal medicine contains several active compounds that can act as antimicobials, anthelmintics, antifungals, immunostimulant, and growth promoter. The herbs that are widely used are tuumeric, ginger, temulawak, and garlic as the basic ingredients of herbal medicine. Based on phytochemical screening test unfermented herbs containing positive Flavonoid compounds (+), negative Saponins (-), nagative Triterpenoids (-), Positive Alkaloids (+++), and positive tannins (+++). And fermented contains negative Flavonoids (-), positive Saponins (++), negative Triterpenoids (-), positive Alkaloids (+++), and negative tannins (-).

Abstract

Kelompok Tani Sehati dan Kelompok Tani Syalom adalah dua dari kelompok tani ternak yang ada di Kelurahan Tuatuka, dengan berfokus pada usaha ternak babi dan sapi sebagai sumber mata pencaharian, selain bertani mengolah sawah. Selama menjadi kelompok tani ternak binaan Jurusan Peternakan Politani Kupang, usaha ternak babi dengan sistem pro-mitra yang dikembangkan berjalan dengan baik dan menguntungkan bagi peternak. Masuknya wabah penyakit demam babi Afrika (African swine fever/ASF) di Pulau Timor sejak akhir Tahun 2019 menjadi masalah besar bagi peternak babi. Penularan penyakit ini semakin meluas dan banyak ternak babi yang ditemukan mati dalam waktu singkat. Kerugian ekonomi akibat kematian ternak babi sudah tentu menjadi masalah utama bagi petani ternak, termasuk dalam Kelompok Tani Sehati dan Kelompok Tani Syalom. Ternak babi yang biasanya dijadikan tabungan untuk kebutuhan keluarga menjadi hilang seketika. Kondisi ini terus diperparah dengan adanya pandemi Covid-19, yang semakin menyulitkan perkonomian peternak. Kehadiran Program Studi Kesehatan Hewan Politani Negeri Kupang dalam memberikan sedikit kepedulian berupa pembagian bingkisan sembako bagi kedua kelompok ini dirasakan sangat bermanfaat.  Selain itu, kegiatan penyuluhan peternakan dan kesehatan hewan serta pendampingan yang diberikan juga menjadi penyemangat tersendiri bagi kedua kelompok ini untuk terus melanjutkan usaha peternakan selain ternak babi sebagai peluang usaha baru dan menghasilkan, walaupun masih dalam suasana pandemi Covid-19.Kata Kunci : African Swine Fever, Babi, Pandemi Covid-19, Peternak.

Abstract

Penanganan penyakit hewan menggunakan obat sintetik dalam jangka waktu yang lama dapat menimbulkan residu dan mempengaruhi kualitas produk. Pengabdian bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan anggota kelompok tani ternak "Veto Mone dan Kutulak" dalam melakukan pencegahan penyakit melalui penerapan sistem pemeliharaan ayam broiler yang ramah lingkungan dan pembuatan jamu yang bersumber dari tanaman herbal. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian meliputi penyuluhan, demonstrasi plot, dan pendampingan. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan pengabdian, antara lain: 1) panduan pemeliharaan ayam broiler ramah lingkungan sebanyak 8 eksemplar; dan 2) jamu herbal yang difermentasi sebanyak 5 liter. Kegiatan pengabdian telah memberikan manfaat positif bagi anggota kelompok tani ternak terutama dalam mengetahui teknik pembuatan dan aplikasi jamu herbal dalam pemeliharaan ayam broiler. Kata kunci: Broiler, Herbal, Jamu, Pencegahan, Penyakit ABSTRACT Handling of animal diseases using synthetic drugs in the long term can use residues and affect product quality. The service aims to increase the knowledge and skills of members of the farmer group "Veto Mone and Kutulak" in preventing disease through the application of an environmentally friendly broiler chicken maintenance system and making herbal medicine sourced from herbal plants. The methods used in community service activities include counseling, demonstration plots, and mentoring. The results obtained from the community service activities include: 1) environmentally friendly broiler chickens maintenance guidelines of 8 copies, and 2) fermented herbal medicine as much as 5 liters. The service has given a positive impact on the farmers especially in knowing the technique of making an application of herbal medicine in the maintenance of broiler chickens. Abstract

The dermatophytosis treatment in dogs can fail due to dermatophyte resistance to antifungals. The purpose of this study is to determine the antifungal sensitivity of dermatophyte Microsporum canis (M. canis) isolated from dogs with dermatophyte. A total of 17 M. canis dog isolateswere tested for sensitivity to 25 µg fluconazole, 25 µg griseofulvin, 15 µg ketoconazole and 30 µg terbinafine, using the disc diffusion method.The M. canis isolates were cultured on Sabouraud's Dextrose Agar media, placed an antifungal disc, and then incubated at 28 C for 7 days. Thediameter of inhibition zone was measured, then compared with the standard, to determine whether they were sensitive, intermediate or resistant.The results of this study indicate that 16 isolates were sensitive to fluconazole; 17 isolates were sensitive to griseofulvin, ketoconazole andterbinafine; and one isolate was intermediate to fluconazole. Based on these results, it is concluded that all 17 (100%) isolates are sensitive to theantifungals griseofulvin, ketoconazole, terbinafine, and 16 (94%) isolates are sensitive to fluconazole. Thus, the four antifungals can be selectedto treat dermatophytes in dogs.

Abstract

Tujuan Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui keragaman jenis, pola aktivitas lalat dan hubungannya dikaitkan dengan suhu, musim, serta jenis kelamin. Penelitian di peternakan sapi semi ektensif kelurahan tuatuka Kecamatan Kupang Timur, Kabupaten Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur. Sampel lalat dikoleksi menggunakan New Zealand 1 trap di peternakan sapi. Perangkap dipasang secara random langsung di lokasi padang penggembalaan, sedangkan di kandang, perangkap ditempatkan pada jarak 3-5 meter dari pagar pembatas kandang. Perangkap dipasang pada jarak kurang lebih 10-15 cm di atas permukaan tanah. Pengumpulan sampel lalat dilakukan dalam interval waktu satu jam sejak pemasangan, yaitu pukul 09;00, 10;00, 11;00, 12;00, 14;00 dan pukul 15;00. Lalat dikumpulkan dan dieuthanasia dengan alkohol 70%, kemudian di identifikasi menurut spesies dengan kunci identifikasi menurut Scott et al (1967) dan Dodge (1967), selanjutnya data dianalisa secara deskriptif.

Abstract

Chromolaena odorata and Lantana camara plants can be used as natural insecticides to control fly populations. Not only flies as vectors must be controlled but also their larvae are important for depopulation. This study aimed to examine the effect of different plant extracts on the mortality of third instar larvae of Musca domestica. A total of 36 petri dishes were used in this study, each containing 20 third instar larvae. Each extract treatment was divided into concentration levels of 15%, 30%, 45%, and 60%, and the control without extract was given. The extract was given using the feeding assay method. The larval mortality was observed for 24 hours after exposure to the extract. The results showed that concentrations of 15%, 30%, 45% C. odorata had higher mortality rates than L. camara, which was about 6.25,10.75, and 5. The average mortality of larvae by exposure to extracts of C. odorata and L. camara is almost the same value, namely 6,25, and 6 at the 60% concentration level. Both types of extracts studied had a mortality effect on larvae.
