Abstract

Adolescents consistently compare themselves with others they see on social media. This habit can bring up in them a sense of envy or inferiority, which then can lead to a decrease in self-esteem. Therefore, it is necessary to have aspects that can increase their confidence and optimism, including in term of spirituality, their sense of gratitude. The purpose of this study was to see the role of gratitude as moderating variable in the influence of social comparison on the self-esteem of social media adolescent users. The research was conducted using social comparison scale of Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Scale (INCOM), gratitude scale, and self-esteem state scale, which were distributed to 200 social media adolescent users in DKI Jakarta, were involved through incidental sampling. The results of data analysis showed that there was a significant role of gratitude in influencing social comparison to change these participants’ self-esteem. The sense of gratitude served to increase these adolescents’ self-esteem, which previously decreased as a result of social comparison. This study had a number of weaknesses in the use of the instruments, especially the social comparison scale. Any similar study in the future is expected to focus more on one kind of social media.

Abstract

Job turnover in Generation Y has become a common phenomenon in industry in large cities. They tend to believe that it is not difficult to leave their jobs and not important to immediately settle in an organization. The study aimed to understand the mediating role of organizational commitment (OC) between perceived organizational support (POS) and turnover intention (TO). A purposive sampling technique was used in this study with 284 generation Y employees living in large cities (19-37 years old) as participants. There were three questionnaires used in this study namely Turnover Intention Scale, Organizational Commitment Scale and Survey of Perceived Organizational Support. The investigation discovered that POS positively affected OC and negatively TO. Employing mediation analysis showed that OC was a significant mediator from the relationship of POS and TO. The findings of this research provide organizations with information about how to effectively manage and retain Generation Y employees through POS and OC.

Abstract

Prolonged conflict in Aceh has caused trauma in people who were directly affected. Aside from post-traumatic disorder, a traumatic event can bring out post-traumatic growth (PTG) too. PTG is a positive transformation that is resulted from an adaptation process of traumatic events in life. This study aimed to examine the relationship between coping and PTG. There were 55 respondents involved in this study, who were obtained by using purposive sampling technique. The sample criteria were those experiencing by themselves certain events during the conflict, men and women over 20 years old, able to read and write, and willing to be respondents for the study. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, Post-traumatic Growth Inventory (α = .88) and Ways of Coping Questionnaire (α= .89). The data were analyzed with the Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The analysis results showed a significant correlation between post-traumatic growth and coping (r = .523; p .01). In addition, coping ways that correlated with post-traumatic growth were seeking for social support (r = .545),  distancing (r = .315), self-control and accepting (r=.274), while confronting and escape did not have a correlation with post-traumatic growth

Abstract

In general, research on the development of teamwork-measuring instruments is associated with the corporate context. While in Indonesia, research in the context of small and medium enterprises is equally important. This study aimed to develop and validate an instrument for measuring team effectiveness in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The development of this measuring instrument used the theory developed by Cantu (2007) which consists of six aspects, namely teamwork, decision making, leadership support, trust and respect, recognition and appreciation, and customer focus. Research respondents were 404 employees from thirteen SMEs situated in Yogyakarta, who were selected by using purposive sampling technique. EFA analysis resulted in KMO = .821, indicating a reduction of the aspects from six to three: decision making, leadership support, and trust. While from the CFA analysis were obtained the values of CMIN=116,566, probability .057, CMIN/DF=1.240, GFI= .932, RMSEA = .034 so that it could be concluded that the model have been appropriate to measure the effectiveness of teamwork in small and medium enterprises.
