Following the fall of the New Order era, which encouraged media development and openness, Islam was positioned as a dominant identity in public spaces. Asma Nadia is one of the actors who is become one part of those phenomena. Her works in novels, films and soap operas have succeeded in combining modern elements with Islamic symbols and values. The theme of Jilbab traveler is one example. Applying text analysis focusing on three works of Asma Nadia’s novels, namely The Jilbab Traveler; Assalamualaikum Beijing; Jilbab Traveler: Love Sparks in Korea, this article reveals that Asma Nadia illustrates "jilbab traveler" as both agile and pious. The ambition to travel around the world accompanied by its inherent attributes represents the figure of “jilbab traveler†as an agile woman, while hijab (veil) presents an image of a pious woman. On the other side, the wearing of the veil becomes a distinction and provides such negotiation space and illustrates the hegemonic masculinity of patriarchal culture.

Small-scale farmers in Tlogosari, Pagak, Malang have many limitations, especially economically. Instead of wanting to improve economic prosperity, small-scale farmer makes changes to the commodities they grow from sugar cane to sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria (L) or albizia). But the change in this commodity has an impact on changing the pattern of short to long harvests. This condition has increasingly resulted in the economic downturn of the farming family, coupled with the existence of the COVID-19 pandemic, making farmers increasingly powerless. This research focuses on the survival mechanism of small-scale farmers who switch commodities from sugar cane to sengon during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study uses James Scott's theory of the ethics of subsistence as a knife of analysis and uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research informants were determined by purposive sampling with the criteria of small-scale farmer informants who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic due to the change of sugarcane commodity to sengon. The price of sengon during the COVID-19 pandemic dropped dramatically due to many factories closed, so farmers are also confused looking for sengon buyers. This condition makes small-scale farmers feel like poor famine. Faced with such conditions, smallholders do survival by other work, namely making gatot, tiwul, and corn grits (ampok) as a profitable employment opportunity in the future of COVID-19

Indonesia is a democracy. Therefore the government must encourage and guarantee freedom of speech, religion, opinion, an association for every citizen. The government must enforce the rule of law which the majority must respect the rights of minority groups and their citizens give each other equal opportunities to live together to get a decent life. The Republic of Indonesia is a unitary state with a high degree of plurality in the fields of religion, ethnicity, race, and class. To support religious life, the national and state community in a peaceful, healthy, prosperous and happy manner, civil religion is needed. This research is a phenomenological study focusing on analyzing the description and explanation of civil religion in Indonesia. A phenomenological approach is used in interpreting the "meaning" of data. With this method, it is expected to obtain interpretations about civil religion in Indonesia. The results of this study concluded that Pancasila could become a "civil religion in Indonesia", at least it had developed along with the will of the people who led, and placed Pancasila as a transcendental backing (civil religion). Pancasila with its five principles is a real picture of civil religion.

Reformation-era opened the opportunities for political freedom and the development of religious life among the Islamic community in Indonesia. It can be seen in the strengthening of the identity and the movements of religious groups outside the mainstream religious groups, namely radicalism. Acceptance of different narratives based on religious sentiments is shown in the public space by building a distinction between "us" and "them". There is a need for an antidote toward radical understanding that resulted in acts of terror naming the deradicalization. By qualitative methods, this study indicated that during the nine years of the establishment of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) the programs are still static because the program has not been able to minimize or even eliminate radical understanding that led to acts of terror. All elements of civil society must strengthen the deradicalization program of BNPT. Both NGOs (Wahid Institute and SETARA Institute) stated that the process of deradicalization was not only on individual problems, but the social environment also played an active role. It is the state that has the ability in the process of deradicalization, but the state must involve civil society.
