Abstract

A political party is a political organization represented by individuals who work for the people with the ideology embraced by the party itself. The task of a political party is to provide political education and lead according to the people’s desires. But what if today’s political party has unconsciously formed the public distrust? The phenomenon of the PAN victory in Ngada district-Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) was a symbol of Ngada’s public distrust toward the party itself, as well as the previous political parties that had won in Ngada. This study aimed to assess the public distrust toward political parties, by looking at the phenomenon of the PAN victory in Ngada. The method used in this research was qualitative research, with in-depth interviews with sources in the field. In this study, the author found some interesting things related to the society and politics in Ngada. One of those things was that the people neither trust nor put hope in the political parties in the matter of responding to their wishes and communities’ development in Ngada. The PAN victory in Ngada was an interesting phenomenon in the political sphere that showed the public’s distrust of the parties today.

Abstract

Abstract

The role of environment is like a two sided coin. Once it can be seen as underlying cause of conflict, but at the other side it is useful to build sustainable peace. Nevertheless, the discourse on peace building through environmental cooperation in Indoneisa is less discussed than environmentally induces conflict. This condition creates an imbalance understanding of the inherent roles of environment, either to build peace or to create conflict. The article aims to reflect both environmental roles in the case of Aceh. From the environmental perspective, peace building processes in Aceh that have been started since MoU Helsinki should be incorporating two rutes in the same manner. First, government of Aceh and other stakeholders need to muffle all factors (foremost environmental factors) that potentially shape a new conflict. Second, environmental cooperation initiatives are needed to strengthen social cohesion and eliminate environmental injustice.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze some linkages between revolution, public sphere, and transnational activism through social media in the Middle East. A revolution in Tunisia in 2011 became an international issue aft er the revolution spreaded to other states in the region. Aft er Tunisia, protest movements began to ignite in Egypt, Libya, Yemen, and Jordania. This wave of revolution comes into a public discourse: what causes this movement? How could a revolution in one country inspire another revolution in another country? To answer these questions, we analyze the role of social media as a “bridge” to connect activists in the Middle East to make a revolution. We conclude that transnational activism was formed by routine and massive reports from media which explained what hadhappened in the Middle East during the revolution. The reports were followed by a spread of the idea of democracy and civil rights through social media. As a consequence, revolution took place in several othercountries whose socio-cultural tradition are similar to that of Tunisia.

Abstract

Regional autonomy has been said as the key factor affecting forest degradation in Muna Regency. Local government policy in allowing both local community and bussines actors to exploit 'Jati' forest in the name of local government income mirrors the domination of the logic of rational-anthropocentrism over local wisdom in managing natural resources. This paper suggests to bring back traditional values, root in the Local society, in managing the forest. Such way is believed to balance the need of economic resources and natural preservation.
