Abstract

This research is based on the theory of farm household economics developed by Nakajima, modified by incorporating Miller’s concept of household investment. The aim of this study is to determine whether the Nucleus Estate Smallholder (PIR) Project has succeeded in developing farmers’ ability to invest at the household level. The research was conducted in the Sungai Bahar area, involving 100 independent smallholder respondents from the former oil palm PIR project. The collected data were processed descriptively. The findings show that during the middle period up to about two-thirds of the planting cycle, oil palm cultivation with a land area of 2 hectares still generates a surplus between revenue and costs, enabling farmers to make investments. However, after passing that period—entering the final stage of the planting cycle—there is an indication that 2-hectare oil palm farmers are no longer able to set aside income for replanting or other investments. Independent oil palm smallholders from the ex-PIR project who have successfully made investments are proven to be more resilient in maintaining oil palm plantations that have not yet been replanted, due to the availability of alternative sources of income. The findings of this study suggest that in the last phase of the planting cycle, when production decreases and maintenance expenses remain high, smallholder farmers do not have enough cash to replant. This highlights the need for state support (subsidies, soft loans, and revitalization initiatives) to keep smallholder farmers from becoming locked in a cycle of old, unproductive plantations. Furthermore, farmer empowerment programs should include household economic diversification, not simply palm oil output.

Abstract

The increase in national rice production is highly necessary in line with the growing population. One of the programs aimed at increasing nationalrice production is the IP 400 program. This study aims to determine the amount of cost, revenue, income, and profit of rice farming under the IP 400 program, as well as to assess the feasibility of rice farming during the third planting season (MT-III) of the IP 400 program in Weru District, Sukoharjo Regency. The basic method used in the research is descriptive. The research location was determined purposively. The samples were selected using proportional random sampling. The data analysis methods used include. (1) farming cost analysis (2) farming revenue analysis (3)farming income analysis (4) farming profit analysis, (5) R/C ratio analysis, (6) B/C ratio analysis. This study shows that the average total cost of rice farming in the MT-III season of the IP 400 program is IDR 11,841,180/ha/season, with an average revenue of IDR 30,212,459/ha/season. Thus, the average income obtained is IDR 20,605,461/ha/season, and the average profit is IDR 18,371,279/ha/season. Based on the feasibility analysis, the R/C ratio value is 2.55 and the B/C ratio is 1.55. This indicates that rice farming in the MT-III season of the IP 400 Program in Weru District is profitable and feasible. IP 400 rice farming generates substantial earnings (R/C = 2.55; B/C = 1.55), which significantly increases farmer income. With this rise in income, farming households' economic resilience improves, so directly contributing to poverty reduction in rural areas. As a result, the government should focus on adopting policies that are suited for places with potential for lowland rice growing.

Abstract

Nowadays Indonesia is the largest palm oil producer in the world. Oil palm plantations provide a large contribution to foreign exchange for Indonesia. This sector is so vital that it is often referred to as green gold. The development of palm oil in Indonesia is also accelerating and expanding to nearly all regions in Indonesia. However, behind the aggressive development of oil palm plantations in Indonesia, there is another aspect that deserves attention, and that is the fate of the vulnerable group of women. Women are greatly and significantly affected by the existence of oil palm plantations, particularly for women who become laborers in oil palm plantations as a result of the loss of their land. Working conditions and poor pay make the conditions for oil palm workers far from prosperous, especially because the majority of women workers are casual daily workers without work contracts and defined rights, so they can vulnerable to be terminated. Additionally, women and children often have to help their husbands and fathers who work as laborers to meet unrealistic targets to avoid punishments or wage cuts. Given this, it is crucial for the Government of Indonesia to issue a particular protection policy for oil palm plantation laborers in order to safeguards their rights.

Abstract

The implication of the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) policy is that palm oil produced by farmers can meet international market standards. However, the number of farmers implementing ISPO in Jambi Province remains relatively small. Several issues faced by independent smallholder palm oil farmers in Jambi in implementing ISPO certification include: (1) Financial constraints – the cost of obtaining ISPO certification is often high, including audit costs, capacity building, and farm improvements (2) Technology and knowledge – many independent smallholders lack access to modern farming technology or the knowledge needed to meet ISPO standards. The purpose of this article is to analyze the factors influencing palm oil production and the impact of ISPO policy implementation on increasing the income of independent smallholder palm oil farmers in Jambi Province. The sample consisted of 30 independent farmers in Rasau Village, Merangin Regency, selected using stratified sampling. Criteria included farmers certified with ISPO, having 2–10 hectares of land, and more than five years of planting experience. The econometric model built was a simultaneous equations model, and data were processed using SAS for Windows 9.0. The results showed that palm oil production was significantly influenced by land area, number of seedlings, and amount of fertilizer. Farmers’ income was significantly influenced by fresh fruit bunch (FFB) production, FFB price, fertilizer price, and labor wages. The ISPO policy's impact on increasing independent farmers’ income in Jambi Province is seen through increases in oil palm land area, FFB production, and FFB prices, which are linked to higher farmer incomes. The application of ISPO fosters greater agricultural output and professionalization. Certified farmers have better job possibilities and more consistent economic returns. This connects with SDG 8's sustainable development goals. Aside from that, it touches on SDGs 12 and 13.

Abstract

Replanting is an effort to develop plantations by replacing unproductive plants with new plants. Oil palm replanting can work well if there is theparticipation of smallholders. The age of oil palm plants at KUD Makmur Lestari is no longer productive, but there are still smallholders who have not participated in replanting. This study aims to determine models and procedure for submitting an oil palm replanting program and to analyze factors that influence smallholder participation in implementing oil palm replanting program at KUD Makmur Lestari. Samples were selectedusing a purposive sampling technique with criteria of farmers who are members of KUD Makmur Lestari. The sample size used were 60 farmers. Data analysis used in this research is descriptive analysis. The results show that the replanting model used by the smallholders at KUD MakmurLestari is total cutting. The procedure for submitting BPDPKS fund starts from the farmer to the village unit cooperative (KUD) and then proceeds to PT. Ramajaya Pramukti and to the Kampar District Plantation Office. Factors that influence the participation of smallholders in implementingoil palm replanting program at KUD Makmur Lestari include age, land area, number of family dependents, farming experience, land legality, savings, and household income. This study emphasizes that the success of oil palm replanting programs is heavily influenced by farmer socioeconomic conditions, the clarity of land legality, the strength of cooperative institutions, and the effectiveness of inter-stakeholder coordination, rather than just the replanting model or the availability of funds. As a result, a comprehensive, participatory, and inclusive approach is urgently required to inspire more farmers to be daring and prepared to undertake the replanting process in a sustainable manner. Furthermore, the oil palm replanting effort is more than just a technical operation to replace old trees; it is also a strategic intervention to achieve SDGs 1, 2, 8, 12, 13, and 17.

Abstract

Apkarkusi is an institution formed by the Government of Kuantan Singingi Regency as a Government action to address the problem of low rubberprices and not the optimal quality of bokar. Research objectives: 1) To find out the characteristics of rubber planters who are members of Apkarkusi in Gunung Village, 2) To know the marketing strategy used by Apkarkusi in Kuantan Singingi Regency. Sampling was purposive sampling withthe criteria of farmers joining Apkarkusi and one Apkarkusi administrator, using 41 respondents from 3 farmer groups and the Head of the Apkarkusi auction market division. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative analysis and SWOT analysis. The results of the study were 51-60 years old (34.15%), land area <2 ha (65.85%), last education was junior high school (36.59%), experience in farming (46.34%), number of family dependents 3–5 souls (63.42%). Recommend a ranking order strategy: 1) Implementing the 4S concept and maintaining the quality of bokar to obtain a high and stable selling price to minimize rubber planters changing land functions. 2) Maintaining the quality standards set by Apkarkusi to maintain buyer trust. 3) Applying the 4S concept and having regular buyers can increase the selling price of bokar. The findings of this study can have an impact on long-term development goals (SDG’s), such as creating a marketing plan based on the 4S idea, maintaining bokar quality, and engaging customers while dramatically increasing bokar selling prices. This directly affects the revenue of rubber growers, the majority of whom are in vulnerable economic groups
