Abstract

Motivation as a form of encouragement that arises from farmers both from outside and inside towards oil palm rejuvenation which encourages farmers  to do rejuvenation and those who have not done rejuvenation in order to improve    agricultural development through increasing the productivity of oil palm plants. This study aimed to: 1) To describe the condition of oil palm rejuvenation in Sungai Bahar Sub-district, Muaro Jambi Regency, 2) To find out the difference in motivation between farmers who had done rejuvenation and farmers who had not yet done oil palm rejuvenation in Sungai Bahar District, Muaro Jambi Regency. The population in this study were oil palm farmers in Sungai Bahar District. The sampling technique in this study used double sampling, namely  random sampling and quota sampling. The number of sample farmers were 60  farmers with the distribution of 30 farmers who had not yet done oil palm rejuvenation in Suka Makmur and Marga Mulya villages and 30 farmers who had  done oil palm rejuvenation in Suka Makmur and Marga Mulya villages. While the data analysis used was descriptive analysis and quantitative analysis using the Mann Withney test. The results showed that: 1) Rejuvenation of conventional techniques in Sungai Bahar District using BPDPKS funding sources began in 2018. There were two farmer groups that received rejuvenation funding from BPDPKS in Sungai Bahar District, namely KUD Sari Makmur which was established in 2012 and Gapoktan Rambutan which was established in 2017. 2) The intrinsic motivation of          farmers who had not yet replanted was in the low category, i.e 39%, where debt wdas an obstacle to replanting oil palm plantations, on the external side, farmers who  had replanted were in the high category 63.4 %, as well as those who had not yet done rejuvenation classified in the high category, i.e. 62.6%.

Abstract

This research aims to describe a general overview of red chili farming in Kayu Aro Sub-district and Kerinci Regency generally, analyze the cost structure and income and the feasibility of red chili farming, and to analysis implementation to rural goverment. This research was conducted in Kayu Aro Sub-district, specifically in Batang Sangir and Sungai Tanduk villages. The number sampled in this study was 54 farmers. Both primary and secondary data were utilized. The data analysis methods used were descriptive analysis and quantitative analysis. The research shows that red chili farming in the research area is a traditional practice that has been passed down through generations and remains deeply rooted in the culture. Consequently, all basic farming activities are based on traditional experiences. The first step in red chili farming is seed preparation, where farmers use local seeds known as LOKER (Local Kerinci), obtained from previous harvests, eliminating the need to purchase seeds. Generally, red chili farmers in the research location have small land holdings where they own on average 0.18 hectares. The red chili farming maintenance activities include transplanting, staking, weeding, fertilization, as well as pest and disease control.  The cost structure consists of fixed costs amounting to IDR 1,413,000/MT/year and variable costs amounting to IDR 27,985,000/MT/year. The income obtained from red chili farming is IDR 18,963,400/farmer/MT. The R/C ratio for red chili farming is 1.70, indicating that the farming activity in the research area is profitable and viable to pursue.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the optimal use of production factors and business risks in independent palm oil farming. This research was conducted in Jebak, Ampelu, and Ampetu Mudo, Muara Tembesi District villages. The analytical method used is descriptive and quantitative analysis. Descriptive method to see the description of farming. A quantitative method to analyze input usage by using the cobb-Douglas function. The sample villages were determined purposively based on the consideration that the three villages had the largest area of productive plantations (TM). Determination of the number of samples used the census method with a total of 116 respondents. The results showed that (1) palm oil production produced from oil palm farming activities in the study area averaged 15,025.18 kg/ha/year with an average selling price of Rp. 2.208/kg. Farmers operate oil palm farming with a land area of 2.55 ha/farmer, plant age of 10.87 years, fertilizer 243.92 kg/ha/year, herbicides 2.29 liters/ha/year, and labor 88.60 HOK /ha/year. (2). Partially, the variables of land area, plant age, and use of fertilizers have a positive and significant effect on independent oil palm production in Muara Tembesi District, Batanghari Regency, while the variables use of herbicides and use of labor do not have a significant effect on oil palm production. The optimal use of production factors for a land area of 3.82 ha and fertilizer use is 1,053.55 kg/ha/year. (3). Independent oil palm farming is consistently profitable, with a CV value <0.5, the L value > 0, and the R/C value obtained is R/C = 4.45 per farmer and R/C = 4.48 per hectare.

Abstract

This study aims to 1). Describing mangosteen farming in Keliling Danau District, Kerinci Regency. 2). Identify internal and external factors of mangosteen farming development in Kerinci Regency Keliling Danau District. 3). Formulate alternative mangosteen farming development strategies in Keliling Danau District, Kerinci Regency. This research was conducted for 2 months in Keliling Danau District with 52 farmers. The data used are primary data and secondary data. The data was analyzed using descriptive methods and SWOT approaches (Strenght, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats). The results showed that mangosteen farming is cultivated on hilly land with very limited cultivation techniques without touch and use of technology, there are internal factors consisting of seven strengths and four weaknesses, while external factors consist of six opportunity factors and five threat factors. The results of the SWOT matrix analysis, that the development of mangosteen farming in Keliling Danau District is in quadrant I or aggressive strategy. The mangosteen farming development strategy in Keliling Danau District that can be used is the SO strategy, utilizing its strengths optimally and utilizing existing opportunities. Increase the amount of mangosteen production in order to meet market demand.

Abstract

This study aims to estimate the model of potato farming production function in Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province. The estimation of the production function model uses the Cobb-Douglas production function model, the transcendental production function model, and the log-log inversion production function model. The best production function model of the analysis that is able to explain the physical relationship between inputs and potato farming output is the Cobb-Douglas production function model with the value of the determination coefficient adj-R2 = 0.8566 [85.66 %] for granola and for cipanas varieties the determination coefficient adj-R2 = 0.8972 [89.72 %] . The Cobb-Douglas production function model was chosen as the best function because it showed a high adj-R2 value and a t-test of each significant predictor variable. The estimation of the production function model of the Cipanas potato farming function is only a Cobb-Douglas production function model that is able to explain the logical, factual and theoretically acceptable technical relationship to explain the influence of production inputs on production. The sum of all input parameters for granola potato farming production was obtained ∑βi = 0.9689.< 1. Indicates that granola potato farming is in area I (Decreasing Return to Scale). In the cultivation of cipanas potato varieties, ∑βi = 0.9669 < 1. It indicates that the cultivation of cipanas potato varieties is in area II (decreasing Return to Scale). The technical efficiency of both potato varieties is relatively low, which means there is still great potential for increased productivity.
