The Indonesian Journal of Occupational Safety and Health
The Indonesian Journal of Occupational Safety and Health is an open access and scientific journal published by the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Airlangga, and supported by Indonesian Occupational Safety and Health Association (AHKKI) East Java Region, Indonesian Occupational Health Experts Association (PAKKI), and Indonesian Industrial Hygiene Association. The journal aims to publish original articles and review articles on recent developments related to occupational health and safety. Articles were published after a peer-review process with two reviewers and the editor. Since 2017, this journal is published regularly three times a year, in April, August and December. Since 2019, all articles have been published in English. This journal has been certified as a Scientific Journal by the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (RISTEKDIKTI) since October 3, 2022 valid through August 2026 (SINTA 2).

Fatigue is one of the causes of accidents. According Setyawati (2010) fatigue shown to contribute more than 60% in the event of an accident. This reseacrh was conducted to determine the relationship of the individual characteristics, noise and air temperature with subjective fatigue. Fatigue can be caused by various factors of education, health, habits, motivation, temperature, radiation, and humidity to the air and noise work environment. reseacrh observational descriptive with cross sectional approach. The number of samples this study were 45 people, were taken by simple random sampling. The independent variables were age, noise and air temperature. The dependent variable of this study was fatigue. The statistical test used chi-square test. Primary data were obtained from interviews and measurements directly. Measurements were taken at two locations new office and workshop 9. The results of this study showed that 45 respondents (88.90%) had mild fatigue, and 5 respondents (11.10%) experienced moderate fatigue. All respondents who experienced fatigue being exposed to noise and temperature exceeding the standarize. The conclusion from this study is there is no significant relationship between noise (p = 0.31) and air temperature (p = 0.41) with subjective fatigue. While age with subjective fatigue have a significant relationship with the value (p = 0.61). Advice for company made policy so workers over 40 years old can be get jobs that match their abilities.Keywords: age, noise, temperature, fatigue

Hazard is always available on every work process in the workplace and each hazard has a different level of potential hazard, and therefore needs to be done identification hazard. Contractor Safety Management System (CSMS) Program in PT. X applied to prevent and suppress the occurrence of a hazard to the civilian contractors. This study was conducted to identify the hazard to workers civilian contractors using CSMS PT. X Pasuruan. This research was an observational descriptive and presented in the narrative. Identification of hazard in stage are pre-work activities and execution of work at civilian contractor PT. X Pasuruan. The data collection method was by observation, indepth interview, and interviews. The results showed on the stage of pre-employment activities PT.1 as a civilian contractor company in cooperation with PT. X Pasuruan, meets only 14 subjects (93.3%). At the stage of implementation of the work there are two items that realization is not achieved, and at the final evaluation stage there are three items that are below 80% votes and does not meet the requirements. Risk of harm to the contractor civilians in the workplace can be prevented to a minimum, it was because a good management system in the company. Companies obedient in carrying CSMS program regulating health and safety management systems of work, by making the program a monitoring schedule for the work progresses and increasing Awareness to contractors, by providing training in occupational health and safety aspects.Keywords: identification, potential hazard

Bathroom was major personal hygiene facilities for elderly in Hargo Dedali Nursing HomeSurabaya. Elderly bathroom design need to consider with ergonomic factor for elderly to minimize of falling. The purpose of this study was describing suitability of bathroom facilities ergonomic according physiological and elderly anthropometric factors in the Nursing Home. This study was conducted with cross-sectional design with descriptive analysis approach. Observations and measurements were taken at the place and variables were personal hygiene facilities, physiological, and elderly anthropometric. Data that used were primary data based on observations and interviews and secondary data drawn from the place. The result showed that elderly bathroom ergonomic design were height of closet 42,5 ±2,609 cm; height of bathing tub 68,65±6,492 cm; height of water cock 90,09±6,067 cm; volume of water dipper1000 ml; height of hand rail 80,09±6,067 cm; diameter of handful 4,6±0,2 cm at persentile5th; slope of floor ≥ 40 with rough floor texture; lenght of doorleaf with handle 16 cm; lighting during the day and the night for more than 100 lux. The conclusion was that not all bathroom facilities at nursing home eligible for elderly. Advice that can be given were the bathroom need adjustment size with ergonomic values obtained and necessary uniformity in design was not only space but also uniformity in size according to the physiological and elderly anthropometric who can access to bathroom independently. ABSTRACTThe role of central control room (CCR) operator in Steam Power Plant (PLTU) or Gas and Steam Power Plant (PLTGU) of a work environment has high noise intensity with range (62.2– 99.8 dBA). Noise resulting from the process of production of electrical energy by machinery such as power generation unit boiler/HRSG, turbine, generator, condenser and other supporting equipment can cause Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL). Study with cross-sectional design aims to analyze the difference in Noise Induced Hearing Loss between shift operator CCR PLTU and PLTGU PT PJB UP Gresik. Research on samples taken with the technique of simple random sampling with the majority of respondents were ≥ 40 years old, have a working periode ≥ 4 years, have a work area with a level of intensity noise > 85 dBA, long exposure noise ≤ 1 hour and good level of compliance of the use of ear protection in both of units. There was a difference of NIHL shift operator CCR PLTU and PLTGU. The number ofoperator who have experienced hearing loss due to noise on the shift operator CCR PLTU greater than PLTGU. Shift operator CCR PLTU and PLTGU are advised to obey and comply with safe working hours in areas with particular noise intensity has been set and the use of ear protection with right, also have to perform regular an audiometry exam tests so that the function of hearing of shift operator CCR could in monitor continuously.Keywords: central control room operator, power plant, noise induced hearing loss

Good nutritional status affects physical and intellectual of activeness, productivity and veracity. Performance reaches of productivity in the mid-twenties and it declines with ages. Experience increases exponentially with tenure, and it can be seen from the level of educational attainment and skills. The objective of this study is to investigate relationship nutritional status, individual characteristics with productivity of sorting and packing employees of PT. DPG Muliakeramik Group. Primary and secondary data were employed as the source of data. The data were then processed and analysed descriptively. This research was observational and included field research with cross sectional design. Population of this study were sorting and packing employees of PT. DPG Muliakeramik Group with the total of 14 employees, and total sampling was used as the sampling method of this study. Nutritional status data were obtained from direct IMT. Interview with company’s representatives was taken to obtain information about individual characteristics (ages, tenure and education level) and workforce productivity. The collected data were then analysed using cross tabulation. The results indicated that most respondents have normal nutritional status (IMT). Most respondents were aged 26-35 years old with less than 6 years tenure, and most of them were graduated from Senior High School. The results of this study also indicated that most respondents have above average productivity. There is no relationship tenure, educational level with workforce productivity. This study is suggested that PT. DPG Muliakeramik Group could adjust workplace nutrition and give nutritional counselling for employees about the importance of consuming balanced nutrition.Keywords: nutritional status, individual characteristics, productivity

The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is one of the risk control measures that aim to protect workers from safety and health hazards. The purpose of this study was to analyze factors related to the behavior of the use of PPE in Production Unit I PT Petrokimia Gresik. This research was an analytic-observational research with cross sectional design. Sample in this research were 100 workers. The result was presented in the form of frequency distributions and cross-tabulations then analyzed by chi-square statistic. The results showed that the majority of the workers were well behaved in the use of PPE in the workplace. Statistical analysis showed that the knowledge (p = 0.019; r = 0.346) was the significant factors related to the behavior of the use of PPE and have lower relationships. The conclusion was that the higher the level of knowledge, the better behavior in the use of PPE, while suggestions for the company is the need to increase the amount of training related to K3 especially regarding PPE informally, supervisors to be more assertive to punish or sanction against employees who violate the rules, no matter the level of education, age, and length of service, and the need to increase K3-related surveillance and establish good communication with workers. PT. X bergerak dalam bidang industri agrokimia yang terus melakukan pengembangan, perbaikan dan modifikasi terhadap pabrik dan sarana pendukungnya dengan menunjuk perusahaan kontraktor/ subkontraktor sebagai pelaksana pekerjaan. Untuk memastikan bahwa proyek yang dikerjaan oleh kontraktor menerapkan norma-norma keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja, PT.X menerapkan Contractor Safety Management System (CSMS) yang dituangkan dalam Prosedur SMT-KKK-26. Akan tetapi masih terdapat beberapa kecelakaan kerja yang terjadi pada pekerja kontraktor. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan analisis terhadap pelaksanaan CSMS yang telah dituangkan dalam SMT-KKK-26 PT.X dengan menggunakan siklus PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Action). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode observasional dengan analisa data deskriptif. Penelitian dilaksanakan di PT. X, Bontang, Kalimantan Timur. Waktu penelelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari hingga Maret 2017. Kemudian data yang telah diperoleh akan dianalisis dalam bentuk narasi deskriptif menggunakan pendekatan siklus PDCA. Pada prosedur SMT-KKK-26 diatur proses pengadaan jasa dengan menerapkan tahapan-tahapan CSMS yang dilaksanakan oleh beberapa departemen. Tahapan tersebut meliputi identifikasi risiko, pra kualifikasi, seleksi yang termasuk ke dalam proses perencanaan (Plan), pra-pekerjaan dan pelaksanaan pekerjaan sebagai wujud dari implementasi (Do) dan pemeriksaan (Check), serta evaluasi akhir pekerjaan sebagai Action. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan terhadap penerapan Contractor Safety Management System (CSMS) di PT. X dapat disimpulkan bahwa CSMS yang dilaksanakan pada PT.X tersebut telah menerapkan kaidah siklus Deming, Plan-Do-Check-Action. Akan tetapi terdapat beberapa hal dalam SMT-KKK-26 mengenai prosedur penerapan aspek K3 dan LH pada pengadaan jasa yang belum berjalan secara optimal, sehingga diperlukan perbaikan yang berkelanjutan.

Fire in building could cause human casualties, loss of property, disruption of the activities of the organization, environmental degradation and disturbance of public. In the United State, of 15.300 fire in the rise building are 990 victims and 6,1% of them fatalities. Therefore fire prevention should be done by implementing the emergency response system wherein fire extinguishing system and means of escape. The purpose of this study was to identify and designing needs portable fire extinguisher and means of escape that have not been fulfilled in building Class II Port Health Office (PHO) of Balikpapan. This research was performed by cross sectional design using observational approach. The interviews performed on 2 officials of Class II PHO of Balikpapan which is considered to know about the condition of the building as object of research. The result of this research are no fire emergency policy and means of escape. In these condition it is provided to the Class II PHO of Balikpapan fixed procedure on fire emergency and evacuation route. Portable fire extinguisher installed as many as 10 units, in accordance with the requirements calculated based Permenakertrans number 4 1980. Conclusion of this research is Class II PHO of Balikpapan’s building has not been having fire emergency policy and adequate means of escape. This condition should see the Class II PHO of Balikpapan create procedure regarding fire emergency and evacuation route.Keywords: fire emergency, means of escape, portable fire extinguisher

One factor that could result in disturbance of health in the process production is noise the following noise interferes due to the use of thr machine production. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation of age and working period with hearing threshold value of workers exposed to noise in the unit of production Steel Melting Shop PT. X Sidoarjo. This study used cross-sectional design. Population of the study is labor in the production of Steel Melting Shop PT. X Sidoarjo as many as 108 employees. Samplesin this study are 28 employees, taken by simple random sampling with criteria inklusi willing to be the sample of the research and not experience pain (no history of ear disease and had never experienced head trauma). Variables independent is age, and working period. Variable dependent is a hearing threshold value. Noise measurements in the unit production of Steel Melting Shop PT. X Sidoarjo show his worth beyond NAB (106 dB s/d 107 dB). Workup audiometri show 22 from 28 sample had abnormal hearing threshold value (> 25 dB). Test with correlation pearson showed relationship age and working period with hearing threshold value. Conclusion from this study is that noise in the unit production of Steel Melting Shop PT. X Sidoarjo beyond NAB and many workers had abnormal hearing threshold value as the correlation of age and working period with a worker hearing threshold value PT. X Sidoarjo. Do the rotation of workers to reduce long exposure to high risk workers exposed to noise.Keywords: age and working period, hearing threshold value, noise exposure

Oil and gas industry have high hazard potential. Some of major hazard in the oil and gas industry are fire hazard, gas explosion, and gas poisoning. PT Pertamina EP Asset 2 Prabumulih Field have Safe Work Permit System (SIKA) to prevent potential hazard in workplace. This research aims to study the SIKA procedure and its implementation in PT Pertamina EP Asset 2 Prabumulih Field. This research is a qualitative study and conducted with cross sectional approach. Data used in the research are primary data and secondary data. The result obtained from this research is PT Pertamina EP Asset 2 Prabumulih Field have multiple type of SIKA such as SIKA for hot operation, cold operation, digging, and confined space. SIKA form contained about the job description, location, amount of workers,inherent dangers, job requrements such as Job Safety Analysis, personal protective equipment, fire extinguishers, ventilation, etc) and parties that responsible in the SIKA implementation. Implementation that have been observed compared and analyzed with current regulation applied in PT. Pertamina EP Asset 2. Based on the result, implementation of SIKA has gone well. SIKA have not well distributed across the field. Advice that can be given is the SIKA Document distributed in accordance with the relevant parties.Keywords : work permit,analysis, implementation
