Abstract

Background: Low Back Pain is one of the disturbances that occur in the body due to the activities of the human body during the move with an unsafe position. The agricultural sector is one type of work that has a high risk for its workers. Extreme environmental conditions and traditional equipment determine the level of health and safety of farmers. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between a work position and low back pain in the elderly farmer, Methods: This research was quantitative research with an analytic observational method, used crossectional design with Simple random sampling technique. The sample size was 45 farmers. This research was conducted in March 2017 in Sumengko village Mojokerto. Results: The result showed that most of the respondents are at the high-risk level (73,3%), meaning that the elderly farmers work in nonergonomic position. Low back pain experienced by most farmers is on the level of moderate complaints with 40 respondents (88.89%). Based on Spearman rank statistical test with a value of α = 0.05 significance level obtained result of 0.02, so there is a significant relationship between the working position of elderly farmers with the risk of low back pain in the Sumengko Mojokerto. Abstract

Background: Cataract is the turbidity of the eye lens that causes impaired vision. This occured because of the damage on the eye lens so it reduced eye vision. Indonesia is still recorded as the highest number of patients with cataract in South East Asia, Therefore, surgical cataract or cataract surgery becomes the most surgical done by an ophthalmologist. However there is a gap between the incidences of cataract with the number of surgeries in a year. The gap between the number of cataract patients who were operated on and were not operated because it was lack of intention to have surgery from cataract patients themselves. The lack of intention from the patients to have cataract surgery could be caused by several factors, such as the lack of access to information and knowledge. The increasing of knowledge was closely related to the provision of health education, and the health education was provided, patients with cataract can improve his or her intention to have cataract surgery. Methods: This research used a pre-experimental research design by using study design One-group pre-post test design. This sampling technique was a non-probability sampling, total sampling (sampling saturated) with a total sample of 25 respondents. Results: The result of data analysis used a dependent t-test and p-value was 0,000. P value indicated <α (0,05) which meant there was the effect of health education about cataract to the intention on having cataract surgery. Conclusions: The result was expected to increase information and improve knowledge of cataract that could increase the client's intention to have cataract surgery. Abstract

Background: Profession nurse is one of the profession as a health worker who plays an important role in achieving health development goals. In producing competent nursing student graduates, educators need to design learning that can generate students' potential in using their critical thinking skills to solve problems. One of the learning approaches is to use the learning model of "Problem Based Learning (PBL)". Methods: This study uses a systematic method of review which combines several research journals to be reviewed and analyzed and taken a conclusion. Results: Exposure to research conducted by Williams and Beattie (2008), Shin and Kim (2013), as well as research conducted by Hernando et al. (2014) it can be seen that the application of PBL in nursing education can encourage students to have the initiative to learn independently. This experience is indispensable in everyday life where the development of one's mindset and work patterns depends on how he or she taught himself. Conclusions: Problem Based Learning (PBL) should be used in learning, especially in nursing learning because with PBL there will be meaningful learning. The PBL learning model also encourages students to integrate knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis and apply them in a relevant context. Keywords: problem based learning, nursing education, learning model

Abstract

The issues concerning sustainability and viability of the agricultural sector in Taiwan hasbeen a daunting issues ever since the diversion of the national economy into more centeredon manufacturing and services. In the mean time, Taiwan has faced with ever declining foodself-sufficient rate and became one of the lowest in Asia with a mere 31% by calorie in 2015.Explanations have been made such as it is a fact that the vast importation is used for animalfeed or food processing, yet, it also reflected the challenges for the agricultural sector. Themajor challenges included fragmented and declining farmland size, aging faming population, increased set-aside and especially low food self-sufficiency rate. As indicated in the recentlyreleased initial census report for 2015, more than 80% of the faming family were cultivatingon less than 1 ha of farmland and the average age of the farm owner-operator was 63.5 yearsold. As such, agro-food policy is a national security issue: as it closely link to the welfare ofthe stakeholders, farmers, food industry, consumers, future generations. Food sovereigntyperspectives can be an interesting dimension to address the ability of the nation to respondto the multiple stokeholds involved. Food is a culture, yet it is a dynamic process. Therefore, itis important to understand the dynamic of food preference and choice over time as thepopulation structure changes, and how the agricultural sector can respond to it. This reportintended to present recent new initiatives in Taiwan to address these issues.

Abstract

Jember District is the second largest of coffee producing area in East Java (after Malang) with coffeeplanted area around 5,608 hectares. Based on the data in 2012, 27 of 31 sub districts in Jember arecoffee producers which means only 4 sub-districts in this region do not produce coffee. Each area, however, has a different potency on coffee production. To understand the role of coffee in the regionaldevelopment, an area mapping on distribution of smallholder coffee plantation is therefore needed asit related to labor employment in plantation sector, particularly as most of those run by smallholdersas well as the change of economic structure in Jember District. The importance of smallholder coffeeplantation’s role on labor absorption and economic growth on Jember will eventually determine thefurther policy on the development of smallholder coffee plantation as an important subsector inJember. This research aimed to: (1) describe the characteristic of distribution coffee plantation area bysmallholders in Jember District, (2) know the shift of GDP value from smallholder coffee in Jember, and (3) know the employment absorptive capacity on smallholder coffee plantation in Jember District. Both descriptive and analytic methods were used in this research. Methods of analysis used in thisresearch include location quotient (LQ), locality coefficient and specialization coefficient, shift-shareanalysis, demo-metric model, and contribution. The result of this study showed that (1) thecharacteristics of distribution smallholder coffee area in Jember Regency were not concentrated, (2)the shift share and position of GDP value from smallholder coffee were positive, and (3) smallholdercoffee plantation ability on producing the economic outputs and its contribution to the regioneconomic growth is followed by increasing labor absorption and have positive impacts on the districtregional development.

Abstract

Aromatic herb such as Murraya koenigii or curry leaves packed in different thickness ofpackaging materials and stored at different storage conditions were studied. Unsuitablestorage conditions of curry leaves play a major role in reducing its internal and externalquality. Besides that, proper packaging material used also important in reducing postharvestlosses since it acts as a protective barrier from external environmental factors thataccelerates the senescence process. Therefore, it is important to study the suitable storagecondition and packaging material for this herb in preserving its quality and extending theshelf life. Treatments were curry leaves packed in 0.04µm polypropylene (PP) plastic andfurther placed at 5°C, 0.04µm polypropylene (PP) plastic at room temperature, 0.04µm highdensity polyethylene (HDPE) plastic at 5°C, 0.04µm high density polyethylene (HDPE) plasticat room temperature, 0.08µm high density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic at 5°C and 0.08µmhigh density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic at room temperature. The curry leaves were storedfor one month. The parameters evaluated were percentage weight loss, surface color, ascorbic acid and chlorophyll contents, antioxidant activity and sensory evaluation. Theresults indicated that 0.08µm HDPE plastics, followed by 5°C storage temperature was foundto be the best storage condition among all of the treatments by having higher retention ofascorbic acid, chlorophyll content, sensory evaluation score, antioxidant activity and lowerpercentage of weight loss in curry leaves during one month storage period.

Abstract

In Indonesia irrigation water management in tertially canal is otonomusly organized by water usage assosicition (WUA). The management varies among areas and periods. In Klambu Wilalung irrigation area last four decades some WUAs has experienced some managements change, that are ulu-ulu system within 1980s, dharma tirta system within 1990s, “P3Aswakelola system” in 1990s-now, and recently “P3A-lelang system” that has first time being apllied since 2005. Nowdays the two latter systems are most applied systems in the area. The lelang system means WUA as water supplier has to provide some budget in advance in order to get a right in water management. This might have more benefit to farmer. However, the spreading of lelang system in the area is still unidentified. The aims of the research are (1) to know the spreading of the “lelang system” (2) to understand main factor of farmer choice in water management system, (3) to know correlation of area, contract period, and productivity to value of lelang. This research is conducted by cencus to 34 WUA in Klambu Wilalung irrigation area, Kedung Ombo dam, Central Java. This data is analysed by descriptive quantitaive method by Pearson corellation. The results show that from the WUA 67% is apllying lelang system and the rest applying swakelola system. The main reason applying lelang system is the budget availability to establish agriculture infrastructure (including irrigation infrastructure) in the initial period of geverning WUA. Then, reason applying swakelola system is the system accentuate working together (gotong royong) in managing irrigation water. Furthermore, area has positive and significant correllation to value of lelang, while contract duration and productivity don’t have correlation to value of lelang. This research also find that some WUAs that applied contract system change to swakelola system. This research conclude that farmer choice to water irrigation system is depend on good governance of WUA.
