Abstract

The productivity of any establishment is heavily relied on the welfare of its workers which is a determinant to degree of their output. Hence this study examined the influence of human resources development on technical college teachers’ self-concept, and productivity in Ogun State. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for this study comprised all technical college teachers in Ogun State with sample size of 60 technical college teachers. Structured questionnaire was data collection. Cronbach Alpha reliability technique was used to establish the internal consistency of the instrument and a reliability coefficient of 0.85 was obtained. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation for answering research questions, while the hypothesis was tested using Correlation Matrix and linear regression. The findings revealed that there is significant influence of human resources development on technical college teachers’ self-concept (β =.748; p ˂ 0.05) and their productivity (β = .830; p ˂ 0.05).  It was concluded that human resources development must be embraced to regularly update educators’ skills. Recommendation include that relevant human resources management programmes such as workshops, conferences, short-term programs among others should be introduced to improve self-concept and productivity of technical college teachers.

Abstract

Technology and Livelihood Education introduce different skills. It is a major called as all in one knowledge that consist of masculine subjects such as Electricity, Carpentry and Agriculture and feminist subjects such as Dressmaking, cooking and Cosmetology and this leads to the differences of males and females in their performances in areas of technology and livelihood education. The researchers studied the level of competence and level of difficulties of males and females in areas of technology. The extent of influence of factors such as experiences, preparation in elementary and culture and beliefs were also identified. The study employed quantitative research design. It was conducted in one public secondary school in La Trinidad, Benguet. The survey questionnaires were administered to sixty students. Based on the statistical findings, the mean scores of males and females showed that they have high level of competence in areas of Technology and Livelihood education. Males and females’ level of difficulty in the competencies in areas of TLE was low. This implies that they can do the activities being assigned to them without close supervision. Meanwhile, on the identified factors that influence the performance of males and females in areas of Technology and Livelihood Education, preparation experiences and preparation in elementary were influential. Finally, the result of T-test proved that there are no differences between gender groups in level of competence, level of difficulty and in extent of the factors that were identified.

Abstract

Students’ readiness to receive what is taught in classroom is a condition of attitude influenced by many factors, and Basic technology in Nigerian junior schools is often affected by many factors. For the subject in schools not to go into extinction therefore, and for the future career prospects embedded in it, this study explored influence of home-school related factors on students’ schooling attitude towards basic technology in Nigeria. Two research hypotheses were tested in the descriptive survey, and 250 junior secondary schools III students were randomly selected in Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State. Students’ Schooling Attitudinal Factors’ Scale (SSAFS) (r = 0.82) was used for data collection while multiple regression statistical tool was used for data analysis. The findings recorded joint (80.8%) and relative influences of home environmental status (0.229, P .05), school facilities (B = 0.227; P .05), peer group (B = 0.215; P .05), teachers’ personality (B = 0.104; P 0.5), and type of school (B = 0.102, P 05) on students’ schooling attitude towards basic technology in junior secondary schools. The results imply that   the identified factors among others should be given adequate attention by all stakeholders of education.

Hence, this study investigated cognitive influences of work-overload and role-conflict on technical education university lecturer’s satisfaction and performance in South-west Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The study was guided by three research questions and two hypotheses. Adapted scales were employed for data collection with an overall reliability coefficient of .90. population for the study comprised all technical education university lecturers in Nigeria. Data was analyzed using mean and standard deviation, Correlation matrix (Pearson Product Moment Correlation), and multiple regression. Findings revealed that there is no significant relationship among work-overload, role-conflict, job satisfaction and performance of technical education university lecturers. Study also revealed significant influence of work-overload and role-conflict on job satisfaction (β= .101; β= -.134; p˃0.05) and performance (β= -.107; β= .076; p˃0.05) among technical education university lecturers. It was concluded and recommended that work-overload and role conflict are significant factors that contributes immensely in affecting satisfaction and overall performance of lecturers on their job. Abstract

This study examines the relationship between socio-demographic factors and vocational education outcomes among the Yoruba ethnic group in Nigeria. It highlights the importance of understanding how factors such as age, gender, socioeconomic status, educational background, and geographical location influence educational attainment and career choices within this demographic. The research uses qualitative interviews to gather data from a diverse sample of Yoruba participants. Key findings show that socio-demographic characteristics significantly affect participants' access to vocational education and their career outcomes. Younger individuals and those from higher socioeconomic backgrounds are more likely to enroll in advanced vocational training programs while older participants face challenges due to limited opportunities and resources. Gender disparities also emerge, with women often encountering cultural and societal barriers that hinder their participation in certain vocational fields. Geographical factors also play a critical role with urban residents having greater access to quality vocational training institutions than rural ones. The study advocates for inclusive policies that cater to the diverse needs of the Yoruba population, aiming to enhance vocational education outcomes and promote sustainable career paths.

Abstract

Educational Technology became vital in the teaching and learning process, particularly during the Covid-19 era. However, a host of challenges associated with the integration of ET in the teaching and learning process were unearthed. This study sought to establish the extent to which Educational Technology was integrated into the teaching and learning of Design-based subjects at the diploma level during the COVID-19 pandemic and to explore strategies that can be adopted to improve the quality of teaching and learning in teacher education in times of crises. The study employed a qualitative approach methodology utilising a case study research design.  A sample of five lecturers and twenty students was purposively selected. Data were analysed thematically. Results revealed that lecturers have adequate content knowledge about the design-based subjects which they teach but do not have sufficient technological and pedagogical knowledge. The study recommends in-service training of lecturers to effectively use educational technology in teaching processes.

Abstract

Safety of passengers' lives and properties while traveling using vehicles majorly lies on behaviors of drivers. Hence, this study examined the school bus drivers’ behavioural adaptation to speed limit devices for safe conveyance of private school students in Lagos state. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population comprised all 5,340 registered private schools in Lagos state. 400 school bus drivers were randomly sampled across all the twenty Local Government. An adapted questionnaire was used for data collection. Cronbach Alpha reliability technique was used to establish the internal consistency of the instrument and reliability coefficient of 0.83 was obtained. Data was analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test. Findings revealed that there is no significant difference between mean responses of mini and coaster school bus drivers on sensation seeking behaviour (t=-.769, p=.443), risk taking propensity (t=2.24, p=.026) and been cognitively indolent (t=.552, p=.581) towards speed limit devices and accident prevention for safe conveyance of private school students in Lagos state.
