Abstract

Peace of heart is an inner spiritual experience that generates an emotional feeling of harmony. Peace of heart (taṭmainn al-qulūb) is an important aspect applicable for the life of the Muslim community as a treatment for the psychological problems of the modern era, mainly due to the absence of peace. Thus far, no research has been done on the development of peace of heart to capture the uniqueness, specific aspect, and distinctive aspect of peace in Muslim community. A total of 744 respondents responded to this research. Six experts were involved to examine item wording in this research (CVR= .67-1.00). This study has found that the TQS consists of two components (al-sukūn and al-yaqīn) with a good loading factor (.687-.884), Cronbach's Alpha (.844), and item consistency (.545-.857). All items had a good difficulty level and appropriate rating. Convergence validity on this scale was indicated by its correlation with The Brief Serenity Scale (r= .612). The criterion-related validity on this scale was indicated by its correlation with dhikr quality (r= .629), Islamic positive religious coping (r= .518), perceived stress (r= -.453), and sensibility (r= .103). Further studies need to be done based on the followings: 1) Examining the measurement on this topic with larger respondents having equal variance; 2) Considering gender, education level, and age in norming study of this scale; 3) Validating with other measurements to add validity information, especially discriminant validity

Abstract

Burnout is commonly measured with the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), which consists of three subscales measuring emotional exhaustion, personal accomplishment, and cynicism. We adapted the scale and then explored and confirmed the three dimensions on the Indonesian version named The Maslach-Trisni Burnout Inventory (M-TBI) with an exploratory analysis followed by Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) from 822 workforces. The sensitivity for different job characteristics and demographic factors was established with analyses of variance and based on percentile scores of the subscales, three categories for burnout tendency were proposed. The scores on the three subscales were compared with those of Western countries. There are similar scores for emotional exhaustion and cynicism, but the sample score for personal accomplishment tends to be lower than the western countries. It can be concluded that the M-TBI scale is a reliable, sensitive, and efficient tool to measure the burnout tendency in the workforce in Indonesia.

Abstract

Humans will always face challenges that interfere with their course of life. Their responses to face those challenges or resilience are varied, depending on environmental aspects. The discussion on resilience is used to understand the reasons why individuals can be more resistant to challenges than other individuals. The aspect that influences and forms resilience is the environment. One form of the influential environment is the environment in which humans are born or reside. The demographic characteristics of the Indonesian region are one form of the physical environment which is divided by geography (West Indonesia, Central Indonesia, and East Indonesia) and by type of administrative area (District and Municipalities). This study employed a quantitative approach to measure the construct validity of the CCRAM instrument which has been translated into Indonesian. This study involved 518 people (N = 518) as participants who came from three regions of Indonesia, namely East, Central, and West Indonesia. The research instrument was a questionnaire containing statements/items related to community resilience. After the data were collected online, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was conducted to check the validity of each item on each dimension/construct. The results indicate that all dimensions and items were declared to meet the fit or valid criteria.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct an adaptation and validation of the Offence-Related Feelings of Shame and Guilt Scale (ORSGS) in the Indonesian language. ORGS was translated into the Indonesian language using a forward translation method by a bilingual psychology expert. Five hundred ten male prisoners from three correctional institutions in Indonesia were recruited and completed the Indonesian version of ORSGS in paper-and-pencil. A Rasch model approach was applied to evaluate the psychometric properties and validity of the adapted scale. The results showed that the Indonesian version of ORSGS had moderate Cronbach’s Alpha reliability (α= .65) and excellent item reliability (.99). Item logit ranged from -1.08 to .72 with a separation value of 8.79, showing that items were grouped into 12 groups. The unidimensionality was found as acceptable/ moderate by 30.4% total variance explained from Principal Component Analysis but still needs further confirmatory analysis. Item 1 and 2 were found to be misfit and need to be evaluated. According to the Rasch model result, it can be concluded that the Indonesian version of ORSGS was valid (10 out of 12 items were fit) and reliable (Item reliability: .99) to be used in the prisoner population. However, further investigation about its multidimensionality and criterion validity still needs to be conducted

Abstract

This study aimed to adapt and examine the psychometric properties of The Child-Adolescent Perfectionism Scale – Short Form (CAPS – SF) in an Indonesian sample. In Indonesia, research on perfectionism is being developed, but there is no measurement for adolescent perfectionism that can be used. Therefore, a valid and reliable measurement is needed. The Child-Adolescent Perfectionism  Scale – Short Form (CAPS – SF) developed by Bento et al. is an instrument consisting of 2 dimensions of Socially Prescribed Perfectionism and Self-Oriented Perfectionism with a total of 9 items that can measure perfectionism in children and adolescents. The adaptation process followed the guidelines established by the International Test Commission such as translation, cognitive interview, and test of the pre-final Indonesian version which involved 322 adolescents aged 13-15 years who lived in Indonesia. Reliability test using Cronbach's Alpha and CFA, which was used to measure the construct validity, showed that the nine items in adapted The Child-Adolescent Perfectionism Scale – Short Form (CAPS – SF) could be used to measure the perfectionism of Indonesian adolescents.

Abstract

This study aims to create a discipline measuring tool with good psychometric properties for Indonesian Air Force Military Personnel (IMPI-D32). It was conducted using an integration of self-discipline, motivation to obey, and discipline theories in a military context. The IMPI-D32 consists of 32 items and its construction are based on the Classical Theory Test. The item's content validity was estimated using the Aiken V index at a minimum of .690. Furthermore, the item discriminations showed that the corrected item-total correlation for all items is above .3. Meanwhile, the reliability estimation with the Spearman-Brown formula indicated a satisfactory coefficient value of .916. The standard error of measuring the IMPI-D32 was 3.439 with the confidence of true score interval between X-6 to X+6.

Abstract

Measuring continuous learning (CL) competency is beneficial to achieving success for individuals and organizations. For this reason, the availability of a brief but valid instrument is crucial. This study aims to develop a valid instrument to measure the CL using a situational judgment test (SJT). The instrument was developed and validated using respondents of 502 employees at the supervisory level in the electrical industry (with age M=30.13, SD=6.17). For content validity, we first held focus group discussions with supervisors and managers to identify and develop some essential characteristics of the CL. Subject matter experts were involved in writing and reviewing the items. A confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to test the construct validity, and it was found that 12 of 13 items fitted a unidimensional model. All the factor loadings were statistically significant (p<.05). A further test for parallel assumption was done to check the tau-equivalence. This test is vital because raw scores are mostly used in daily practice rather than scaled scores. The results showed that 12 items met the tau equivalent requirement. For further research, scoring for multiple-choice SJTs using the nominal response model (NRM) could be considered since there was a tendency for some of the questions to elicit ambiguous choices.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the psychometric characteristics of the CFIT-scale-2, including investigation of difficulty level, discrimination, distractor effectiveness, DIF (Differential item functioning), IRT (Item Response Theory) 2PL model, validity, and reliability. Respondents were 507 students with 245 (48%) females and 262 (52%) males, with ages ranged from 8-13 years (M= 10.88; SD = 1.35). The classical test theory (CTT) analysis showed that the item difficulty level on the CFIT-scale-2 had varying item difficulty levels, from easy to difficult. However, the test arrangement was not structured according to the suggested difficulty level from easy to medium to difficult. The discrimination of items was poor because 28 items were not included in the very good category (p > .40). In addition, 47 (25%) of the 184 distractors are ineffective. CFIT-scale-2 did not contain DIF (Adj.p > .05), and IRT analysis showed that the CFIT-scale-2 was not structured according to the difficulty pattern from easy, medium, and difficult. The CFIT-scale-2 based on IRT analysis contained 44 items or 96% with good discrimination. The results of a construct validity test using the CFA technique showed a good fit model (p < .001; RMSEA < .08; SRMR < .08), which was acceptable and supported the fit between the theoretical and empirical model. The reliability coefficient value of Cronbach's alpha was 0.88 (α > .70), indicating that the CFIT-scale-2 had good reliability, but the construct reliability was below an acceptable value (CR < .69). According to this study, the psychometric characteristics of the CFIT-scale-2 should be revised and reevaluated.

Abstract

Positivity, the tendency to view self, life, and the future positively, and to believe in others, was found to contribute toward an individual’s functioning based on previous studies. A positivity scale in the Indonesian version is needed to understand better Indonesian people’s functioning and improve their well-being. However, the positivity scale was not yet available for Indonesians. This study aimed to adapt the 8-item Positivity Scale into Positivity Scale Indonesian Version (PSIV) and find evidence of its psychometric properties. Data from 218 Indonesians aged 18 years or older were collected using an 8-item PSIV rated on a 5-point scale. The results showed good item discrimination indicated by its corrected-total item correlations (0.35–0.67) and a high internal consistency (α=0.826). The confirmatory factor analysis results after applying the modification model showed that the hypothesized one-factor model fit the criteria indicated by CFI=0.968, TLI=0.950, RMSEA=0.067, SRMR=0.037, and GFI=0.962. The PSIV was correlated with life satisfaction and positive and negative effects. A test-retest reliability conducted on 30 respondents showed a correlation between the first and second times of data collection. Accordingly, PSIV had adequate item discrimination, reliability, and validity. Thus, the PSIV is beneficial to assess the positivity of Indonesian people aged 18 years or older.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to construct and validate the jihad academic scale. Because jihad is broadly divided into major (non-physical) and minor (physical) jihad, this research focuses on the construction of the major (non-physical) jihad, which is carried out in the academic or how they strive to study in their education. The study consisted of a pilot study (n=61), a first study (n=183), and a second study (n=183), using a convenience sampling technique. A quantitative method with exploratory factor analysis (EFA) design followed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Validity uses to construct convergent and discriminant validity—analysis using the JASP program. The results of the EFA study formed three dimensions. The CFA results stated that the proposed model was fit based on the CFI=0.94 (> 0.90) SRMR=0.05 (< 0.08) GFI=0.91 (> 0.90). But still not fit in accordance with p-value 2=0.01 (> 0.05) and RMSEA=0.06 (< 0.05). Then it has been reliably seen from α = 0.88 (> 0.70). Then the convergent validity is seen from the academic resilience scale with the correlation value of Pearson's (r = 0.41) and Spearman's (rho = 0.35) with each masing p-value < .001. Then, for discriminant validity, it can be seen from the school burnout inventory scale with the correlation value of Pearsons (r = - .11) with p-value=.012  and spearman's (rho = - .21) with p-value= .00438. The normality assumption of Shapiro-Wilk (W= 0.87) with p-value < .001. Overall, this scale can be used in a university environment and can then be developed at other levels of education with a larger number of samples to confirm each factor.
