Abstract

This study discusses library branding strategies in increasing public interest in reading in South Labuhan Batu Regency, a developing area in North Sumatra. The phenomenon of low reading interest in Indonesia demands a more contextual and adaptive literacy strategy for the digital era. With a qualitative approach and descriptive design, this study is based on a constructivist paradigm that places reality as a result of social construction. Primary data were collected through in-depth interviews with the head of the library, librarians, and service users, as well as participatory observation and documentation. Meanwhile, secondary data were obtained from journals, books, and scientific articles. The data analysis technique used the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model which includes reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions, and was complemented by a validity test through source triangulation. The results of the study showed that the branding strategy was carried out comprehensively through social media, service innovations such as mini cinemas, and collaboration with schools and literacy communities. Branding has proven effective in increasing the number of visits, new memberships, and public interaction through digital channels. However, significant challenges were found in the form of limited digital infrastructure, low technological literacy in rural areas, and conservative perceptions of the function of libraries. The branding strategy implemented is able to build the library's identity as an inclusive and modern literacy institution, as analyzed in the perspective of brand identity theory. In conclusion, branding is not only a promotional instrument, but also a transformational strategy in shaping the image.

Abstract

Rapid digital transformation has brought about fundamental changes in the way information is disseminated and consumed by society. The development of digital media not only offers easy access and speed of information distribution, but also raises serious challenges in the realm of ethics, regulation, and policy. This study aims to deeply analyze the role and challenges of information in the context of digital ethics, media regulation, and policies relevant to the current technological era. The method used is a qualitative approach, by conducting in-depth interviews with digital media experts. This study is also complemented by a review of the latest literature and case study analysis. The results of the study show that although digital media supports the democratization of information, it also opens up gaps for the spread of disinformation, hate speech, privacy violations, and inequality of access to technology. Analysis of public interest theory, deontology, cyberspace, and diffusion of innovation is used to understand the complexity of these challenges. These theories underline the importance of adaptive regulation, universal ethics, and collective responsibility in maintaining the digital information ecosystem. One important finding is the central role of digital literacy in helping people navigate online content ethically and critically. The conclusion of this study states that digital information management requires a multidisciplinary approach involving the government, platform providers, academics, and the general public. Effective policies must not only be repressive against violations, but also promotive in encouraging digital literacy and ethical awareness.

Abstract

Libraries play a crucial role as centers of information resources, supporting academic activities within higher education institutions. However, the effectiveness of library collection utilization largely depends on the level of collection usability. This study aims to describe the level of collection usability, the level of collection utilization, and analyze the influence of collection usability on collection utilization at the Library and Publishing Unit of Padang State University. This research employed a quantitative approach using a descriptive-correlational design. A total of 100 respondents were selected through simple random sampling from the population of library visitors between August and October 2024. Data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using normality tests, Pearson correlation, simple linear regression, and the coefficient of determination. The results indicate that the level of collection usability is categorized as good, with an average score of 3.48, while the level of collection utilization is also classified as good, with an average score of 3.795. Correlation analysis reveals a strong positive and significant relationship between collection usability and collection utilization, with a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.837 (p < 0.001). The regression analysis shows that the level of collection usability contributes 70.1% to collection utilization, while the remaining 29.9% is influenced by other unexamined variables. This study concludes that the higher the level of collection usability, the more optimal the utilization of library collections by users. The findings highlight the importance of continuous collection updates, routine surveys of users' information needs, and enhanced access to digital resources. These strategies are essential to maximize collection utilization in support of learning, research, and knowledge development within higher education settings.
