Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of librarian competencies in improving the effectiveness of memorabilia services at the Bung Karno Proclamation Library. As part of the preservation of national historical heritage, memorabilia services require technical, interpretive, and educational management. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing data collection techniques such as participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that librarian competencies, including internal motivation, personal traits, self-concept as custodians of cultural heritage, historical knowledge, and communication and technical skills, significantly contribute to service quality. Librarians not only act as collection managers but also as educational and cultural agents. Visitors' evaluations of librarians indicate high levels of satisfaction, particularly in terms of communication and information presentation. However, service effectiveness can still be improved through institutional support such as ongoing training, institutional policies, and the use of digital technology. These findings provide a clear practical basis for institutional policymakers to design continuous professional development programs and implement structural support policies to ensure the sustainability and cultural relevance of memorabilia services. This study recommends strengthening librarians' competencies holistically and fostering cross-institutional collaboration as strategies for enhancing sustainable and culturally relevant memorabilia services.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a metadata-based content recommendation system using a Carousel model to support effective communication and promotion at the Universitas Terbuka Service Center (Sentra Layanan Universitas Terbuka/SALUT), particularly at SALUT HEBAT in Semarang City. While prior studies on digital content strategies often emphasize paid advertising or algorithm-driven personalization, limited attention has been given to metadata-based visual approaches in distance education services. The Carousel model was selected because it can present content in a visual and interactive format, thereby enhancing audience engagement and appeal. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation of social media activities. A one-month implementation produced encouraging results, with 303 views, 277 likes, and 78 link clicks on SALUT’s Instagram content, achieved without paid advertising (Meta Ads). These findings demonstrate that metadata-based content strategies, combined with consistent visual design and clear calls to action, can organically attract audience interest. The study recommends optimizing Meta Ads, providing digital marketing training, developing a dashboard monitoring system, and fostering local collaboration for content dissemination. This research contributes by addressing the gap in sustainable, low-cost digital engagement strategies for distance education services and offering a replicable model for broader.

Abstract

This study aims to review alternative classification systems that can replace the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) in elementary school libraries, especially since the Indonesian National Library Regulation No. 4 of 2024 mandates DDC as the required system. The main issue discussed is the incompatibility of DDC with the cognitive and literacy development levels of young users. Using a narrative literature review method, eight relevant studies were analyzed and grouped into four categories of alternative classification systems: visual (color and symbol-based), interest-based, culturally-based, and locally contextualized systems. Findings indicate that alternative classification systems are more inclusive, intuitive, and aligned with how children perceive and interact with information. Visual systems facilitate independent searching and boost reading interest, while interest- and culture-based systems enhance emotional engagement. Locally contextualized systems allow school libraries to adapt to real-world needs. Based on these findings, the study recommends that the National Library provide greater flexibility and innovation opportunities in classification for school libraries, instead of enforcing a single, universal model. Classification systems should be adaptive and centered on students' needs, enabling school libraries to serve as meaningful, engaging learning spaces.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the behavior of library users in searching for information and what obstacles were found in searching for information faced by library users at the Sriwijaya University Library in 2024 (Case Study in the Sriwijaya University Bukit Reading Room). The method used in this study is quantitative descriptive. The subjects of the study were 100 library users who visited the Sriwijaya University Bukit reading room, obtained using the Slovin formula. The sampling technique used was the Purposive Sampling technique. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and observations. The results of this study are the information seeking behavior of students in meeting information needs in the Sriwijaya University Bukit reading room from the application of Wilson and Ellis' theory, namely for an average starting of 3.03, at the chaining stage of 3.154, at extracting of 2.722, the verifying stage of 3.32 and the ending stage of 3.228. At the verifying stage, it is on a very positive scale. Meanwhile, for the starting, chaining, extracting and ending stages are on a positive scale. The obstacles faced by librarians are the lack of the latest printed book collections and the unstable internet network in the Sriwijaya University Bukit reading room when many librarians visit.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the radicalization process of former terrorist convicts in Indonesia through the framework of Fathali Moghaddam's Staircase Model. Unlike previous studies that were primarily conceptual or based on secondary data, this study utilizes semi-structured interviews with a former terrorist convict, analyzed through thematic analysis to explore the psychological, social, and religious dynamics at each stage of radicalization. The results indicate that radicalization is not solely triggered by structural factors but is also influenced by relational pressures (family and religious study communities), ideological justification through deviant religious interpretations, and the role of social media in accelerating the strengthening of radical identities. These findings confirm the relevance of the Staircase Model in the local context, while highlighting its limitations as it does not fully accommodate relational and digital variables. Thus, this study contributes to the development of theoretical understanding of radicalization and offers implications for deradicalization policies that emphasize early family-based intervention, moderate religious education, and digital literacy to prevent extremist propaganda.

Abstract

Digitizing personnel records is a strategic step that not only improves administrative efficiency but also strengthens knowledge governance within organizations. This study aims to analyze the role of personnel records digitization in improving efficiency and accessibility, preventing the risk of organizational memory loss, identifying supporting factors and barriers to implementation, and examining its implications for organizational knowledge preservation. The method used is a literature review of six research articles related to personnel records digitization in various government and private institutions in Indonesia. The results show that digitization accelerates archive retrieval, increases employee productivity, and reduces the risk of damage to physical archives. Without digitization, organizations risk facing organizational memory loss, which hinders accountability and the transfer of institutional knowledge. The main supporting factors for digitalization implementation include leadership support, regulations, technological infrastructure, and human resource competencies, while barriers include budget constraints, low digital literacy, archive complexity, and the risk of data leakage. The implications of this study show that digitization is not only a technical solution but also a long-term strategy to maintain the continuity of organizational knowledge. Theoretically, these results strengthen the integration between records management and knowledge management within the framework of Records Continuum and Organizational Memory Theory. Practically, these findings provide a basis for organizations to formulate archive digitization policies that are oriented towards efficiency as well as the preservation of institutional knowledge.

Abstract

Minangkabau songket not only functions as traditional clothing but also as a container of local knowledge that represents symbolic meaning, philosophical values, and the collective outlook on life of the Minangkabau people. This study explores indigenous knowledge in songket motifs and the preservation strategies of the Adityawarman Museum. A qualitative method was applied using two approaches: Peirce's semiotics to analyze indigenous knowledge and a case study for preservation at the museum. Data were collected through interviews, non-participatory observation, and documentation, with museum curators purposively selected as informants. Data were analyzed using the Miles & Huberman interactive model and interpreted through Peirce's semiotics. The results show that the motifs on Minangkabau songket cloth, including the Pucuak Rabuang, Itiak Pulang Patang, Kaluak Paku, Saluak Laka, and Barantai motifs, reflect philosophical values, collective identity, and ethics embedded in Minangkabau culture. The process of preserving local wisdom carried out by the Adityawarman Museum of West Sumatra through six integrated stages of introduction, validation, documentation, storage, transfer, and dissemination, with the support of community participation and the use of digital technology. The conclusion in this study shows that the traditional knowledge of Minangkabau songket represents Minangkabau cultural knowledge that can be passed down from generation to generation through the meaning contained in each motif and the Adityawarman Museum plays an important role in preserving the original knowledge of Minangkabau songket. Theoretical contributions include expanding cultural semiotics and strengthening perspectives on indigenous knowledge preservation, offering novelty in the study of the relationship between symbols, culture, and local knowledge preservation.

Abstract

Information behavior refers to all activities related to human interaction with information. Generation Z (Gen Z), the generation born in the technological era, is no stranger to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in their daily lives. This study aims to analyze Gen Z's information behavior in this AI era from the perspective of Wilson's Information Behavior Theory (1996). The variables examined include passive attention, passive search, active search, and ongoing search information behaviors. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and inferentially using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) with the help of SPSS 26.0 software The research instrument used an online questionnaire. The research respondents consisted of 260 Gen Zers spread across the island of Java. Respondents came from diverse demographic backgrounds, such as freelancers, students, and housewives. The results of the study show that demographic differences did not significantly affect AI usage patterns, as the majority of respondents (77.5%) chose AI personalization on social media as the most frequently used AI. Further findings show that the average values for information behavior are passive attention at 4.05, passive search at 3.91, active search at 4.04, and ongoing search at 3.97. This indicates that Gen Z in the AI era has a fairly balanced pattern of information behavior. They are not only passive in interacting with information that often comes by chance through social media algorithms, but also actively search for information when needed through search engines. Overall, this study shows that AI-based digital environment factors have a stronger influence than demographic factors in shaping Gen Z's information behavior. This also shows the relevance and expansion of the application of Wilson's Theory (1996) in the context of AI.

Abstract

The mobile library service at UPT Perpustakaan Proklamator Bung Karno has shifted its focus from reaching public facilities to primarily serving schools. This transformation raises critical questions about how leadership influences policy implementation and how such orientation affects service inclusivity and public access. This study aims to analyze the role of leadership in shaping and implementing mobile library policies under institutional and resource constraints. A qualitative case study approach was employed to explore leadership orientation, internal communication, and implementer initiative. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, direct observations, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model. The findings reveal that leadership orientation strongly determines policy direction, emphasizing efficiency, measurable targets, and ease of coordination with schools, while inadvertently limiting inclusive outreach to wider community groups. Nevertheless, librarians’ field initiatives sustain inclusive values through adaptive scheduling and collaborative teamwork. Theoretically, this research contributes to policy implementation studies by highlighting the mediating role of leadership orientation and the emotional engagement of implementers in achieving policy outcomes within resource-limited public institutions. Practically, the study recommends integrating social inclusion principles into performance-based policy frameworks and strengthening leader–staff communication to enhance sustainability, responsiveness, and the public value of mobile library services.

Abstract

Digital transformation has expanded access to information across generations while simultaneously creating significant literacy gaps. This study explores the meanings, strategies, causal factors, and expectations regarding information literacy in Indonesia’s digital society. Using a qualitative exploratory design, data were collected from 25 purposively selected informants representing Generation Z, Millennials, Generation X, and Baby Boomers in Bone Regency through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis. The findings reveal that younger generations (Gen Z and Millennials) are generally more active and critical in seeking, verifying, and comparing digital information, whereas older generations (Gen X and Baby Boomers) rely more on traditional sources and close social networks. Motivational barriers, cognitive limitations, and socio-cultural influences emerged as the main drivers of this literacy gap. Despite these differences, all generations expressed aspirations for strengthening inclusive literacy through training, intergenerational collaboration, and community-based discussion forums. By integrating the ACRL Information Literacy Framework, Generational Theory, and the Socio-Technical Gap Model, this study provides a comprehensive theoretical lens to explain variations in literacy practices and challenges across generations. The results contribute to theory by contextualizing multigenerational digital literacy within semi-urban Indonesian society, and to practice by offering actionable recommendations for literacy training programs, intergenerational mentoring, and policy interventions that foster inclusive and sustainable information ecosystems. These insights underscore the urgency of adaptive, participatory, and culturally responsive strategies to bridge the gap and build societal resilience in the face of accelerating digital information flows
