Abstract

Journal indexing is a key indicator of scientific quality, enhancing the visibility, credibility, and dissemination of academic publications. This study presents a case analysis of the Asian Journal of Science and Technology Development (AJSTD) and its successful indexing in the Scopus database, offering strategic insights and potential best practices for other scholarly journals. Using a qualitative case study approach through observation and documentation, the findings reveal that AJSTD’s initial submission on 17 March 2020 was rejected by the Scopus Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB) due to several shortcomings. However, after a comprehensive revision based on reviewer feedback, the journal reapplied and was officially accepted on 17 October 2020. This process underscores the importance of meeting Scopus selection criteria, including content quality, citation performance, international diversity, and publishing ethics. Minor deficiencies, if left unaddressed, can become critical obstacles when combined with other weaknesses. AJSTD’s experience demonstrates that strategic editorial improvement, transparent communication, and a commitment to continuous quality enhancement can transform initial rejection into success. More importantly, this study contributes a practical framework that can serve as a reference or model for journals, particularly those from developing countries, seeking international recognition through global indexing. The lessons drawn from AJSTD’s experience are expected to guide journal managers and editorial teams in navigating the complex and competitive landscape of academic indexing more effectively.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the collection management at the Library of Pesantren Modern Ar-Raudlatul Hasanah Medan in supporting the scientific development of students. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that the collection acquisition process is strategically carried out through purchases (80%) and endowments (20%), with a focus on Islamic and general collections relevant to the curriculum. The collections are organized based on a specific classification system and maintained through rebinding efforts. The library also implements various literacy programs such as mobile libraries, reading carts, literacy competitions, and student study groups to enhance students’ literacy and critical thinking skills. However, challenges remain, including limited library staff and the students’ tight schedules, which hinder the optimal implementation of literacy activities. The library plays a vital role in supporting the learning process but requires additional resources and extended operating hours to function more effectively as a center for literacy and intellectual development in the pesantren environment.

Abstract

This study explores the institutional role of Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah Awaliyah (MDTA) Al Washliyah in promoting religious information literacy among urban Muslim youth in Medan, Indonesia. Contrary to the common perception of madrasahs as merely spaces for rote Qur'anic learning, MDTA Al Washliyah actively integrates media analysis and critical religious interpretation into its pedagogy. Using a qualitative method combining in-depth interviews and classroom observations, and employing snowball sampling to identify key informants, the research found that teachers encourage students to question, verify, and contextualize online Islamic content. These practices align with UNESCO’s Media and Information Literacy (MIL) framework and reflect the Islamic tradition of tafaqquh fi al-din—a deep, contextualized understanding of religion. Despite these innovations, the study also identifies critical challenges. Teachers face limited digital training, poor infrastructure, and minimal institutional support. Moreover, a cultural and generational gap exists between digitally-native students and digitally-limited educators. Parental involvement remains low, as many guardians view MDTA narrowly as a place for Qur’anic recitation, limiting support for media literacy initiatives. Nevertheless, the findings suggest that MDTA Al Washliyah, as a community-rooted institution, holds significant potential as a literacy agent. Through its culturally embedded and dialogic pedagogy, it fosters ethical digital citizenship and resilience against misinformation. In conclusion, MDTA Al Washliyah exemplifies how grassroots religious schools can adapt to digital realities, provided they receive adequate training, technological support, and broader cultural alignment. This study contributes to the discourse on integrating media literacy within Islamic education in the context of Indonesia’s urban society.

Abstract

The use of mass media and social media has become one of the main strategies in the image of politicians and political parties in this digital era. The development of information technology, especially the internet and social media, allows political communication to take place faster, more interactively, and more accessible to various groups of society. This article aims to analyze the role of information media in shaping political image through a qualitative approach with a literature review method . This study collects, analyzes, and synthesizes various relevant literature sources, such as books, journal articles, and seminar papers, to understand how politicians and political parties use media as a tool for communication, branding , and political image. The results of the study show that mass media, although still having a significant role, is increasingly being replaced by social media which offers politicians the convenience of building personal branding and interacting directly with voters. Political image building through these two types of media not only functions to shape public perception, but also to manage public opinion and influence political decisions. Social media, in particular, provides an opportunity for politicians to build an image that is more personal and responsive to the needs of the community. This study also discusses various communication theories that explain the influence of mass media on political behavior, such as reinforcement theory , agenda setting, priming, framing , and direct effect theory .

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of ethical communication values into the Aqidah-Akhlaq curriculum to foster Islamic character development among students at MTs Darul Qur’an, an Islamic boarding school in Medan, Indonesia. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research explores students’ daily communication behaviors, the pedagogical roles of teachers and guardians, and the strategic incorporation of information literacy. Findings reveal a significant gap between moral instruction and students' interpersonal conduct, often manifested through disrespectful interactions and communication breakdowns. However, when Aqidah-Akhlaq is delivered through dialogical, participatory methods, and supported by role modeling, students exhibit increased ethical awareness and engagement. The study emphasizes that information literacy must be repositioned as a core moral and pedagogical framework rather than a supplementary skill. It concludes with a call for institutional reform and teacher capacity building to embed communication ethics within Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the digital communication strategy implemented by the Medan City Interfaith Harmony Forum (FKUB) in framing the narrative of interfaith harmony in the digital public space, as well as its contribution to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) number 16. The approach used is qualitative with a case study type. Data were collected through non-participatory observation of FKUB social media content, visual and narrative documentation, and a study of institutional documents. Data analysis follows the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model, including the process of collecting, condensing, presenting, and verifying data through source triangulation. The results of the study show that FKUB Medan City not only plays a role as a social-religious mediation institution, but also as an active public communication actor in voicing the values of tolerance through information media. The content produced includes peace declarations, symbolic interfaith campaigns, and participation in youth activities. This strategy has proven relevant in supporting SDGs 16 indicators such as strengthening inclusive institutions, reducing violence, and expanding access to public information. The novelty in this study lies in the integration of the Project Cycle Management (PCM) approach to systematically map FKUB mediation strategies, which have not been widely touched upon in previous studies. This study recommends strengthening FKUB institutional capacity through digital training, integration of SDGs-based policies, and replication of social media-based harmony communication models in other regions.

Abstract

This study explores the internalization of moral values contained in Rasysy al-Barad, a classical commentary (syarḥ) on Al-Adab al-Mufrad by Imam al-Bukhārī, through the lens of classical text-based information literacy. The urgency of this research stems from the declining moral behavior among students in Islamic educational institutions, prompting the need to return to foundational ethical texts rooted in prophetic traditions. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with a hermeneutic method, this study analyzes the contents of Rasysy al-Barad and examines the stages of value internalization aligned with the framework of information literacy: accessing, evaluating, and integrating information. The findings reveal that the book emphasizes values such as honesty, trustworthiness, respect, patience, modesty, and compassion. These values are interpreted in relation to contemporary social contexts, reflecting not only textual fidelity but also moral relevance. The study concludes that classical Islamic texts like Rasysy al-Barad function not only as religious knowledge resources but also as character-building tools within Islamic education. It recommends incorporating such texts into values-based curricula to foster moral sensitivity and critical religious thinking (tafaqquh fī ad-dīn), ultimately producing intellectually and ethically grounded individuals.

Abstract

In the context of law enforcement education, sustaining the engagement of educators is essential for institutional transformation and the cultivation of information literacy culture. This study investigates the influence of psychological empowerment on work engagement among educators (GADIK) at Sekolah Polisi Negara (SPN) Hinai, with perceived organizational support (POS) as a mediating variable. Using a quantitative method, data were collected from 177 educators through total sampling and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings reveal that psychological empowerment significantly influences POS (β = 0.337) and work engagement (β = 0.256). Additionally, POS demonstrates a significant mediating effect in the relationship between psychological empowerment and work engagement, as confirmed by the Sobel test (Z = 2.148; p < 0.05). The dimensions of “meaning” and “competence” emerged as the strongest contributors to empowerment, while “organizational rewards” and “working conditions” were the most influential indicators of POS. These results affirm that a supportive organizational climate amplifies the effect of empowerment on engagement and highlight the importance of aligning individual psychological resources with systemic support mechanisms. Theoretically, the findings are grounded in Social Exchange Theory, and practically, they underscore the need for integrated leadership strategies that foster both autonomy and recognition. This study contributes to the development of a holistic framework for enhancing educator engagement within police education settings, ultimately strengthening the institution’s capacity to produce ethically grounded and information-literate law enforcement officers.
