Abstract

Generation Z, which is vulnerable to mental health problems, uses the internet as a primary source for obtaining information related to mental health. This study aims to determine the influence of demographic characteristics, digital literacy, and psychological conditions on mental health information-seeking behavior among Generation Z. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Data collection was carried out by distributing online questionnaires consisting of a questionnaire on respondents' demographic characteristics, a digital literacy questionnaire adapted from the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (KOMINFO) questionnaire for measuring the 2022 Indonesian digital literacy index, DASS-42 to measure psychological conditions, and a questionnaire to measure mental health information-seeking behavior that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis used descriptive analysis, classical assumption tests, and hypothesis testing using multiple linear regression tests. Gender and digital literacy variables partially influence mental health information-seeking behavior. Meanwhile, simultaneously, it was found that demographic characteristics, digital literacy, and psychological conditions significantly influence mental health information-seeking behavior among Generation Z by 42.1%, while the remaining 57.9% was influenced by other factors not examined in this study. The results of this study are expected to be a basis for madrasas in designing programs to improve digital literacy as well as awareness and handling of mental health problems among students.

Abstract

This study examines how the identity of independent women is negotiated in Indonesia’s digital sphere through the framework of Islamic communication. Integrating Judith Butler’s gender performativity and Manuel Castells’ network society, the research interrogates meaning production, resistance, and discourse circulation. Using qualitative methods—virtual ethnography, digital content documentation, and Krippendorff’s content analysis—the study applies textual description, symbolic interpretation, and social explanation, with triangulation ensuring validity. Findings reveal three key configurations: support celebrating women’s agency and financial independence; resistance reinforcing domestic roles and masculine hierarchies; and negotiation reconciling independence with sharia principles. Word cloud analysis highlights nodes such as “strong–independent–woman–love” and “man–family–relationship,” while sentiment analysis shows mostly positive responses, though qualitative reading uncovers intense frictions. Theoretically, the study affirms Butler’s thesis of performativity and Castells’ notion of the digital arena as a networked space of conflict. Contributions lie in demonstrating women’s independence as a symbolic struggle over legitimacy, control, and power, with practical implications for inclusive religious dialogue, gender-sensitive policies, and digital literacy.

Abstract

ChatGPT, as a form of artificial intelligence, has become a popular tool among students. This study aims to explore the motivations of Library Science students at Universitas Negeri Malang in continuously using ChatGPT in the context of academic learning. Using the Self-Determination Theory-ChatGPT (SDT-ChatGPT) framework, this study analyzes the motivational factors underlying students' use of technology, focusing on extrinsic motivation, intrinsic motivation, autonomy, competence, connectedness, and challenge. This study uses qualitative methods, with data collected through interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that students' initial use of ChatGPT is generally influenced by external factors rather than personal desire. However, as their freedom in using ChatGPT increases, their motivation becomes more internal, characterized by increased comfort in learning and a sense of attachment to the tool. Students also face challenges in its use, such as the limitations of the free version, the quality of information, and the risk of dependence on the tool.

Abstract

Academic libraries often face the challenge of visual inconsistency on social media due to the lack of a standardized design system, which can weaken brand identity and communication effectiveness. This study aims to design, implement, and evaluate an integrated visual system to address this issue. The method used was Action Research, conducted in two cycles, adopting the Kemmis and McTaggart model. Data collection was carried out comprehensively through interviews with managers, observations, and questionnaires distributed to the audience (n=12). The study resulted in an integrated visual system consisting of a visual guideline (SOP) and a series of design templates in Canva, which was proven to significantly improve the team's workflow efficiency. Audience validation showed a very positive response, with all respondents (100%) stating that the new design was easy to understand, aligned with the brand identity, and visually consistent across all tested indicators. In conclusion, this study contributes by producing a practical and proven sustainable integrated visual system model. This model explicitly offers operational solutions for non-designer teams in library environments, an applicable approach that distinguishes it from previous research.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of creative libraries as catalysts for students' reading interest by highlighting innovations in space design, literacy activities, and appreciation systems in two public schools in Kuningan, West Java. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a multi-site case study design, involving key informants, namely librarians, teachers, and students. This study was conducted over six months of field data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Different from previous school literacy studies that focused solely on reading activities, this study introduces the "Creative Library as an Interactive Ecosystem" model, which positions the reading space as a dynamic system that drives intrinsic motivation. The findings indicate four main innovations: (1) spatial arrangement based on comfort and visual aesthetics, (2) routine and collaborative literacy activities, (3) creative literacy communities such as book clubs and theater, and (4) an inclusive appreciation system that fosters a sense of achievement. Theoretically, this research updates the understanding of reading behavior by referring to the Integrative Framework of Motivation in Education (Urhahne & Wijnia, 2023) and the Holistic Design of Learning Environments (Barrett et al., 2019), which emphasize the importance of autonomy, competence, and social connectedness in learning ecosystems. Practically, the resulting catalyst model provides a new direction for school literacy policy in Indonesia, developing libraries as participatory, aesthetic, and socially meaningful spaces.

Abstract

Papua still faces significant literacy challenges, and Community reading parks (TBMs), such as Rumah Kata Sorong (RKS), play a vital role in addressing these challenges by promoting literacy and fostering a reading culture. However, there is a lack of specific research on TBMs in Papua. Thus, a SWOT analysis of RKS is essential to develop strategic recommendations for its growth and improved impact on local literacy. This study uses a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach to explore Rumah Kata Sorong, focusing on its founder and volunteers, and aims to develop strategic recommendations to strengthen TBMs and enhance community literacy. Rumah Kata Sorong stands out among community reading parks with its curated book collection, diverse facilities, and community-driven initiatives like reading clubs and literary workshops, while also facing challenges such as limited volunteers and financial sustainability. In conclusion, RKS distinguishes itself by offering a unique collection of books, fostering reading communities, and addressing challenges such as limited management and volunteer support. The study contributes by providing a replicable model for strengthening TBMs in other regions, and by expanding the understanding of community-based literacy development in areas like Papua. Future research could explore the program’s impact through quantitative analysis of community involvement and outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine public sentiment towards niqab-wearing preachers and the challenges and opportunities for niqab-wearing preachers in preaching and to examine the function of Islamic communication based on the perspective of the Qur'an. The approach used is qualitative-descriptive with field research methods through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The study was conducted in Gang Sukadamai Tengah, Kelambir V, with six informants consisting of niqab-wearing preachers and the local community. The results of the study indicate that public sentiment towards niqab-wearing preachers is ambivalent, including positive and negative biases. Positive bias appears in the form of appreciation for piety, consistency in religion, and increased information on preaching. Conversely, negative bias includes the assumption that the niqab is a symbol of foreign culture, is associated with radicalism, and is considered to create social distance. Despite facing challenges in the form of stigma and social prejudice, niqab-wearing preachers still have strong opportunities for preaching through consistency of values, strong religious symbols, and an inclusive and polite communication approach. This study concludes that the effectiveness of the communication of the da'wah of the veiled da'ah is very dependent on the ability to balance religious symbols with social openness, as per the principle of rahmatan lil alamin in the Qur'an.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia are undergoing significant transformation as they face increasing demands to integrate traditional Islamic scholarship with modern educational competencies. This study examines curriculum dynamics at Ibadurrahman Islamic Boarding School in Stabat, Langkat Regency, with a particular focus on the integration of information literacy as a foundational competency for students in a digital era. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with key academic stakeholders—including the principal, deputy head of curriculum, and teaching staff—and supported by document analysis of syllabi, instructional materials, and institutional policy documents. The findings reveal that Ibadurrahman Pesantren adopts a dual-track curriculum combining national general-education standards with classical Islamic studies, enabling students to master both religious knowledge and modern scientific skills. Information literacy emerges not merely as a technical ability, but as an ethical and epistemic practice embedded in Islamic values, where students are trained to access, evaluate, and apply information responsibly across religious and academic contexts. This integration supports holistic development, fostering spiritual character, cognitive skills, digital competence, and academic readiness for higher education and professional paths. The study highlights the role of institutional leadership, pedagogical innovation, and continuous adaptation to national curriculum reforms in sustaining curriculum relevance. Overall, the results demonstrate that information literacy, when grounded in Islamic ethical principles, can serve as a strategic bridge between tradition and modernity, positioning pesantren as progressive learning institutions capable of developing morally grounded and information-literate Muslim youth equipped for contemporary global challenges.
