Abstract

This research was carried out to determine the total metal concentrations of Cu and Zn in soil and inorganic fertilizer, as well as their bioavailabilities in the soil agricultural of Bedugul area. This study aims to determine the total metals and bioavailability of Cu and Zn in agricultural land in Bedugul. Analysis of the heavy metal contents of Cu and Zn in soil samples was started with the process of digestion the samples in a mixture of HNO3 and HCl (3:1) with an ultrasonic bath for 45 minutes at 60°C, followed by heating on a hotplate for 45 minutes at 140oC. Total metal concentrations of Cu and Zn in solutions resulted from digestion, extraction, and fertilizer samples were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The concentrations of Cu and Zn were calculated using a standard calibration method. Bioavailabilities of Cu and Zn were determined by comparing the results of a single extraction with HCl and EDTA to the total metal concentrations. The results obtained from 3 types of soil samples which were analyzed for determination of total Cu and Zn concentrations, showed that the highest Cu content was found in the land planted with tomatoes vegetables, 49.6437 mg/kg, while the highest total Zn contained in the land of carrot, i.e. 137,1457 mg/kg. TSP fertilizer contained Cu and Zn 29.3143 mg/kg and 186,2156 mg/kg respectively, whereas NPK fertilizer contained 16.9527 mg/kg of Cu and 168,3549 mg/kg of Zn. The percentage of Cu and Zn extracted by EDTA was the highest in the land of cabbage, followed by tomatoes land, and lastly carrots land, while Cu and Zn extracted by HCl in order of tomatoes land > cabbage land > carrot land.

Abstract

This paper discusses the adsorption capacity of bentonite clay to Cr (III) which was previously regenerated with saturated NH4+ and heat activated. The clay regenerated was the clay that have been used for adsorption of Cr(III) in solutionIt was found that bentonite clay regenerated and heated at 150oC had the highest specific surface area and porous total volume which were 119.9632 m2/g and 107.3561 x 10-3 mL/g, respectively. The distribution of the porous size was bimodal, namely microporous and mesoporous, whereas the isotherm patern observed was classified as the L type. The highest surface acidity of 2.3644 mmol/g was showed by the clay that was heated at 350oC with active situs of 1.4238 x 1021 atom/g. The adsorption capacity of the clay increased with temperature. The highest adsorption capacity of 19.878 mg/g was shown by the clay that regenerated and activated at 150oC.

Abstract

This paper reports the examination of Tukad Yeh Poh river in terms of several parameters namely temperature, total suspended solids (TSS), electric conductivity, pH, dissolve oxygen demand (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), phosphate, Pb, Cu, fecal coliform and total coliform. Water sampling was done at three sampling stations, namely the upstream, midstream and downstream. The results of the water sample measurements were compared to the environmental quality standards and standard criteria of environmental damage by Bali Governor Regulation No. 8 in 2007. The results showed the presence of some parameters whose values exceeded the threshold of class II water quality standard. Those parameters were TSS, BOD, COD, phosphate, Pb, and Cu. The STORET assessment results of Tukad Yeh Poh upstream has a total score of -27 that was categorized as being polluted, while in the middle and downstream, -37 and -49 respectively, which were categorized as heavily polluted.

Abstract

Pada penelitian ini, dilakukan pengukuran kadar metilen biru, logam berat Cd, dan Cr total dalam air limbah artificial dengan menggunakan suspensi aktif pada biosistem vertikal menggunakan rumput gajah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan suspensi aktif terbaik yang ditumbuhkan dari sumber nutrien yang berbeda (nutrien NPK, pupuk NPK, dan molase), ditentukan efektivitas dan kapasitas biosistem, serta menentukan pengaruh jumlah waktu retensi hidrolik biosistem. Metode yang digunakan yaitu dengan mengalirkan limbah artificial secara kontinyu dalam bak biosistem yang diinokulasi suspensi aktif sebanyak 3 kali waktu retensi hidrolik. Metode analisis yang digunakan yaitu metode uji-t deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan suspensi aktif terbaik diperoleh dari sampel tanah dengan sumber nutrien NPK dan pupuk NPK (pasaran) dengan pertumbuhan biomassa mencapai 1200 mg/L pada waktu 18 jam. Efektivitas biosistem vertikal tumbuhan rumput gajah dengan pupuk NPK dalam menurunkan kadar zat warna metilen biru, Cd, dan Cr berturut-turut sebesar 99,7587%, 99,8011%, dan 63,4927%. Kapasitas maksimum dalam menurunkan metilen biru, Cd, dan Cr total berturut-turut sebesar 2,7512 x103 mg/m3, 3,2220 x103 mg/m3, dan 2,2842 x103 mg/m3. Pengaruh jumlah waktu retensi hidrolik biosistem vertikal tumbuhan rumput gajah berdasarkan uji-t yaitu sudah mampu menurunkan kadar limbah metilen biru hingga ? 5 ppm dalam 1 kali waktu retensi hidrolik dan menurunkan kadar Cd ? 0,05 ppm dalam 3 kali waktu retensi hidrolik. Akan tetapi system ini tidak mampu menurunkan kadar Cr total ? 1 ppm. Kata kunci: biosistem, efektivitas, kapasitas, inokulasi, dan suspensi aktif

Abstract

Analysis of anti freeradical compounds from Kepuh (Sterculia foetida L.) seed flesh oil has beenconducted. The isolation of kepuh seed flesh was carried out by maseration using n-hexane and ethanol. Antifreeradical test was carried out by spectroscopy method using DPPH as free radical. The analysis of the compoundsextracted accomplised was used Gas Column Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS).900 gram Kepuh seed yielded 250 mL oil n-hexane extract and 59,5 mL from ethanol extract. The resultof the anti freeradical test showed that the oil from n-hexane extract was not potencial as a anti freeradical agentwhile the oil from ethanol extract has a potency as a anti freeradical agent with damping percentage of 55,07%during 5 minutes and 85,05% during 60 minutes.The analysis using GC-MS, showed that ethanol extract oil from the flesh of kepuh seed contained 8 majorcomponent with relative concentration of methyl palmitate 3956,783 ppm (235,428 mg); palmitic acid 1837,414ppm (109,326 mg); ethyl palmitate 39288,783 ppm (2337,683 mg); (14Z,16Z)-ethyl octadeca-14,16-dienoate17062,660 ppm (1015,228 mg); (15Z,17Z)-methyl nonadeca-15,17-dienoate 19988,563 ppm (1189,319 mg); ethylstearate 4365,666 ppm (259,757 mg); (1Z,4Z)-1-methoxy-9,9,10,14-tetramethyl pentadeca-1,4-diena 22421,631 ppm(1334,087 mg); and (1Z,12Z,16Z)-1-ethoxy-6 methoxy octadeca 1,12,16-triena 78001,041 ppm (4672,262 mg).

Abstract

Isolation, identification and antibacterial activity of flavonoid compounds from jackfruit leaf (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lmk) extract have been done in this research. Extraction of 500 g dry powder of jackfruit leaf using maceration method produced 31.20 g concentrated brownish green ethanol extract. Partition of 30.00 g the ethanol extract gained three concentrated extracts in n-hexane (4.46 g), chloroform (0.84 g) and n-buthanol (6.65 g) fractions. The phytochemical test showed that n-buthanol extract contained flavonoid compound which was active as antibacterial agent with 15.75 mm inhibition capacity. Column chromatography analysis on n-buthanol extract with mobile phase n-hexana: ethyl acetate: n-butanol (8:2:1) gave 8 fractions (FA, FB, FC, FD, FE, FF, FG, FH).  Phytochemical testing showed that fraction FA and fraction FH belong to flavonoide compounds. Analysis of FA using UV-Visible gained 2 peaks at ? 323.40 nm (band I) and ? 285.60 nm (band II) which indicated the flavonoide groups of flavanone or dihydroflavonol. Analysis of FH using UV-Visible gained 2 peaks at ? 323.40 nm (band I) and ? 285.60 nm (band II) suggested the flavonoide groups of flavone or flavonol (3-OH substitution).` By using shiffting reagent the isolate FA was suggested to contain dihydroflavonol group and FH was suggested to contain flavone with hydroxyl groups at C-2’, C-4’.C-5’, C-6’, C-6, C-7, and C-8. Infrared analysis showed that the isolate had –OH, C=O, C-O, C=C aromatic, CH aromatic, and CH aliphatic groups. Antibacterial testing of flavonoid compounds of fraction A and fraction H on Staphylococcus aureus with a concentration of 10.000 ppm inhibited 10.50 mm for fraction A and 7.25 mm for fraction H.

Abstract

A study on cyclopentylsilane reaction in tetrahydrofuran with 4-iodo thioanisol has been carried out using palladium as catalyst under argon atmosphere at room temperature. The results showed that the product was tris(4-thioanisyl)cyclopentylsilane (1) which was obtained from recrystallization using methanol with the yield 35%. The Compound (1) has a melting point of 91.5-92.0 oC. Analysis using GC-MS found m/z 466 with six equivalent protons and eight carbons peak obtained from 1H and 13C NMR.

Abstract

Antioksidan merupakan suatu senyawa yang mampu menangkal atau meredam efek negatif oksidan dalam tubuh. Daun nangka (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) dapat digunakan sebagai antioksidan alami karena mengandung metabolit sekunder. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi ekstrak daun nangka yang dapat digunakan sebagai antioksidan alami. Ekstraksi serbuk kering daun nangka dilakukan dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut n-heksana, etil asetat dan etanol, sedangkan uji aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan menggunakan metode difenilpikril hidrazil. Ekstraksi 1000 gram serbuk daun nangka kering menghasilkan ekstrak kental n-heksana yang berwarna hijau sebanyak 19,60 gram, ekstrak etil asetat yang berwarna hijau kecoklatan sebanyak 21,04 gram dan ekstrak etanol yang berwarna coklat sebanyak 24,76 gram. Uji fitokimia menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak n-heksana, etil asetat dan etanol positif terdapat senyawa flavonoid. Total flavonoid pada ekstrak n-heksana 18,07 mg/100gr QE, ekstrak etil asetat 249,94 mg/100gr QE dan ekstrak etanol 422,90 mg/100gr QE. Hasil uji aktivitas antioksidan pada ekstrak n-heksana memiliki nilai IC50 sebesar 35,57 ppm, ekstrak etil asetat memiliki nilai IC50 sebesar 48,48 ppm dan ekstrak etanol memiliki nilai IC50 sebesar 12,65 ppm. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol memiliki aktivitas antioksidan paling kuat dan siap dikembangkan sebagai alternatif antioksidan alami.

Abstract

Indonesia is quite well known as one of the countries that has tea plantations and uses its own production of tea. As a tea producing country, Indonesia has been able as a tea exporter. The most tea production in Indonesia is black tea product. Black tea products are produced from species Camellia sinensis Var. Assamica which undergoes an enzymatic oxidation process to fresh tea leaves. The most phenolic compounds contained in the black tea leaf are catechins, theaflavins, and thearubigin. The purpose of this study was to determine the phenolic total and catechin content of black tea products and acetone extracts produced by D'wan Tea (DT) and Bali Cahaya Amertha (BCA) plantations which located in Tabanan district, Bali. Determination of total phenol was carried out on black tea leaf products and acetone extract using the Folin-Ciocalteu method compared with gallic acid standards. Determination of catechin content was performed on fresh (before oxidized) tea leaves, black tea leaf products, and acetone extracts using the UV-Vis Spectrophotometry method at a maximum wavelength of 257 nm. The results showed that total phenol content of D'wan Tea black tea products (SDT) and Bali Cahaya Amerta (SBCA) were 1.50 ± 0.02 % mg GAE/g dan 0.97 ± 0.02 % mg GAE/g, respectively. Results of the total phenol content of D'Awan Tea (EADT) black tea acetone extract was 6.92 ± 0.12 % mg GAE/g, while the Bali Cahaya Amerta (EABCA) black tea acetone extract was 7.38 ± 0.07 % mg GAE/g. Catechin content from fresh leaf samples of D'wan Tea (SSDT), SDT, and EADT were 15.30 ± 0.22 % mg/g, 8.37 ± 0.13 % mg/g, and 37.45 ± 0.74 % mg/g. Catechin content of fresh leaf samples of Bali Cahaya Amerta (SSBCA), SBCA, and EABCA were 14.71 ± 0.28 % mg/g, 15.16 ± 0.58 % mg/g, and 35.66 ± 0.89 % mg/g. Total phenol content of DT black tea products is greater than BCA black tea products. DT black tea products appear to have decreased catechins in processing. In the processing of black tea it is necessary to decrease catechins content due to the formation of catechin polymers, namely theaflavin and thearubigin as a determinant of the quality of black tea. Abstract

This paper discusses the development of stripping potentiometric methods for reliable determination of Cu,Pb, Cd, and Zn in natural water. The electrode systems used were the conventional and combined ones. Theformation of intermetallic compound between Cu and Zn was overcame with the addition of gallium ions. Themethod involved two stripping cycles during which copper was initially determined on its own, followed bysimultaneous determination of Pb, Cd and Zn after addition of 150 mg/L gallium ions. The optimum conditions forreliable determination of the metals with the use of the conventional electrode were 0.01 M HCl, 10 mg/L Hg (II), adeposition potential of -1200 mV and a deposition time of 30 seconds, while those with the use of the combinedelectrode included 0.01 M HCl, 10 mg/L Hg (II), a deposition potential of -700 mV for Cu and -1300 mV for theother three metals and a deposition time of 10 seconds. It was also found that the use of the combined electrode gavelower detection limit and wider linear concentration range for the four metals.
